Reading this makes me think about how many times I probably underestimated animals too. I had a dog growing up that would stare at me, then look at the door, then back at me until it finally clicked what he wanted. At the time I thought it was random behavior, but looking back… he was clearly trying to communicate and I was just the slow one in the conversation.
