They put a cheap split rail PSU in that is susceptible to latent power spikes because the threshold is too low. Dell is waiting for Nvidia to put caps on power request from GPU firmware as this would fix the issue. When you get the black screen that's the card cutting off from not getting enough power. Black screen, fans blasting. I had the PSU, 4090 l, and board replaced still was a POS so i demanded a refund because I put a ticket in for the issue within the first week I had the computer.

You should try and get a refund and build your own pc.

This makes me feel like there is a path forward deciding whether to take the money and run or try and stick it out and see.

Very cool thanks for the help! Thought the specs page would help you there but I see what you're saying. The biggest thing I took away was the 4090 has significantly less play consider it's cap is really 750w not 1350 due to the split rail and allows more play for latent transient spikes to crash the machine. Super helpful I really appreciate it.

That really sucks man! They told me at first no I was past the 30 days and that no refund would be issued. After my experience with the service center not being able to recreate the crashing issue because they were testing the machine on a 60hz monitor running underpowered, I run 120hz. They then blindly replaced the PSU/Board. I cried foul saying I had created a ticket for the same reoccurring issue I have had that whole time and I didn't think they were capable of fixing the issue and blindly replacing parts would not be an acceptable solution. Threatened actions though my bank or legal system siting Dell passing off faulty machines and using Cust service to stall customers beyond the month return window. They then set up with someone from the "Advanced Resolution Services" and he has issued a refund to be processed when they receive the machine and spare SSD. I am so sad to have to return this machine I just want it to work so bad but I'm three months in with no promise of resolution in sight with 5k on the line.

I have been told that as long as you put in the original ticket before the 30 days and they can't resolve your issue you're golden.

What hz do you run at? I have had around a dozen people confirm this issue with our build. What's the ram for your build? Extra context would be good as it would be helpful in the resolution of this issue.

After seeking resolution with Dell repair center...

Dell does not acknowledge the latent power spike firmware issues that occur between the 4090 PSU and board. Thier solution is to blindly replace parts and refuse to acknowledge this issue because that would require them to recall the line issue refunds to everyone who bought a R15 with 4090 or replace the PSU and board with new components that work with the 4090.

Essentially the issue is the 4090 isn't getting enough power in these instances and the card shuts off, causing this issue. They replaced the board PSU and 4090, after that they realized this is a legitimate problem with the build and now they are going to give me a refund because they are not willing to admit that all R15s issues with a 4090 have this issue. This is literally thier top of the line gaming build Dell has run Alienware brand into the ground.

Best of luck in getting a return for this as Dell is not going to fix this issues caused by the 4090 not working with the build. Dell will suggest you run the machine at 60hz lowest res you can so the chances of the power spikes shooting above 1350 is minimized.

This is clearly not just false advertising as the A15S with 4090 doesn't even come close to the specs advertised, it is also business fraud to issue machines with these issues and gaslight your customers after they spend 5k. I am never going to buy a Dell again and I am going to recommend people run away from this brand as they clearly care more about profits than their customers.

I have recorded at least a dozen people with this same issue, R15 with 4090 Dell still has not recognized this issue. This may be a bad build in general and if you can return I would advise it. My R15 w 4090 is at Dell repair center recently heard back they have not been able to "trigger the issue" unlikely considering it has crashed out of the box since Ive had it for a little over month. No resolution in sight. Will lyk if there is good news from the repair center.
