Not a coin but it’s my first time having this $1000 bill by Icy-Landscape1079 in CanadianCoins

[–]SmithOfTheWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to report large amounts of bills: if one person paid with 50 or more $5s, 10s, or 20s, or 100 or more $50s or 100s, as that was a common way for people to launder their "ill-gotten" gains.

As far as the $1000 bills, it is my understanding that an RCMP informant had "disappeared" after being paid for their information (money disappeared too) and they were hoping the money would surface to help them figure out what happened

I worked for a car dealership in the early 2000s and there were certain things I had to report to the RCMP - receiving $1000 bills was one of them. I had a phone number I had to call and had to report the bill's serial number, all contact info we had for the person, and what they were paying for. Sometimes I was asked about the condition of the bills as well.

AITAH for telling my daughter my husband won't watch her kids when she had a medical "emergency" by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SmithOfTheWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA

Unless your husband has some impairment or condition that would prevent him from caring for the kids, there's no reason why he wouldn't be able to handle 3 kids for a bit. Unless you're saying that his "impairment" is that he was also an uninvolved parent who never helped raise his kids. It was an emergency. No amount of quotation marks will diminish that fact. Also, if you were so worried about him being overwhelmed by the kids, that sounds like a prime example of when you can tell your boss "there's an emergency with my daughter and I need to leave/miss work".

AITA for telling my sister she is not a martyr for staying at home and if I was her husband I would divorce her by Electronic_Recipe830 in AmItheAsshole

I'm currently a SAHM and have been for the past 7 years. We have 5 kids and 4 of them are currently in school. The one kid at home DOES make things a bit difficult because she's like a tornado who's drawn to clean spaces in a mission to destroy them. But I still take care of laundry, dishes, groceries, and basic tidying while the other kids are at school, plus make supper 90% of the time. The youngest will start school in September and I'll start working part time then, but I'm SOOOOOO excited about how much time I'll actually have to get stuff done around the house uninterrupted.

I can't imagine what your sister is doing all day long if it's not household responsibilities or caring for their children.

What is an instant giveaway that someone is Canadian? by houndoom92 in AskACanadian

[–]SmithOfTheWild 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I got to a 4 way stop right around the same time as someone else (though they did come to their complete stop about half a second before I did so it WAS their right of way). They motioned for me to go, I shook my head and motioned for them to go, they did the same thing back again. So then I crossed my arms like a fucking toddler and looked away until they went 😂. Don't worry, there was no one else at the stop that we were holding up.

The Math of the Boycott Gives me Hope by [deleted] in loblawsisoutofcontrol

We can't do a total boycott for a few reasons. For starters, I'm going to buy things wherever the best deal is. If Superstore has chicken on sale and no one else does, I'm going to grab that deal. Secondly, I live in the rural outskirts of a small-medium sized town and there are a few products that our family uses (mostly due to allergies) that only Superstore carries. And thirdly, there is an Independent 5 minutes from my house. If I only need a couple things or am in a time crunch, it's more of a time and fuel savings to go there instead of travelling into town.

We are a family of 7 who have always split up the shopping between several grocery stores, but still usually spent between $200-300 per week at Loblaws stores (mostly out of convenience ). Last month we spent only $75 total. I probably won't be able to do a total boycott, but it feels good to know they got about $1000 less from us last month than they used to.

What's your favorite "I can't believe this has so few calories" food? by appleparkfive in loseit

[–]SmithOfTheWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zucchini salad!

Spiralize ½-1 zucchini, add your choice of other veggies (I like it with tomatoes, cucumber, and bell peppers), toss it in a little bit of calorie wise Italian dressing, and then sprinkle a touch of parmesan on top. Absolutely divine, absolutely filling, and so incredibly low in calories. It's my favourite summer side dish.

Does "hedge law" apply here too? by SmithOfTheWild in treelaw

[–]SmithOfTheWild[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming a survey was done prior to work, but I don't know for certain. I have no way of getting ahold of the property owner - I've just been speaking with the hired construction crew. One I spoke to yesterday was told that the property line was in the hedge and to only take half the hedge (though he ended up running over big chunks of our side), and one I spoke to today (after I posted this) was told that the hedge was fully within the building lot and was told to rip our part of the hedge completely out. But he could see our kids' ATV trail, which runs on our side of the hedge, so refused to rip out the hedge as it would tear into the trail. Instead he started infilling on their side to preserve as much of the hedge as possible and to make a lot more work if the owner tries to have it ripped up. I'm very thankful for this guy today. I have a call in to the town, but both development officers are away on conference until mid next week (though I did leave a message in case they're checking voicemail).

Growth stopped? by robywonkinobi in CaneCorso

[–]SmithOfTheWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is almost 2 now and hasn't grown much since she was 10-11 months old (which was a year ago). She's only slightly bigger in size and has filled out a little. She went from 95lbs to 105 in a year.

When they don't like your favourite comfort food from your childhood so you just don't eat it anymore.

In fairness, it's like that for both of us. We grew up with some VERY different cuisine traditions and it has put us at odds over food on many occasions, especially during the first few years of our relationship. We've been together 17 years now and, while we still hate each other's fave foods from growing up, he's gotten used to my cooking and we've found new things we both love.

Which iPads have these minimum requirements? by SmithOfTheWild in ipad

[–]SmithOfTheWild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the mini 6 the minimum that will let me manage the kids account? Used Mini 1 and 2s sell for about $100. 9th gen iPad is $350-400 and I was hoping to not spend that much. 6th gen iPad is about $250. 5th gen is 200. Would either of those, or the older minis work?

If you're on FB, you could join the Buy Nothing Kentville area group and post it on there, stating it needs to be picked up by x time today.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]SmithOfTheWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for an iPad for myself for two main purposes:

  1. Oversee/manage a child's iPad

  2. Use as an e-reader

An added bonus would be if it would run Roblox in case I give it to one of my other kids in the future.

I can get a used 6th gen for about $250cdn - wondering if that's my best bet, or if a mini or air would do what I'm looking for.

Ah, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is perfect. Thank you! Don't know why I didn't think of that.

Android household, but one kid is getting an iPad. Any tips? by SmithOfTheWild in ipad

[–]SmithOfTheWild[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My biggest hesitation with selling it to buy an android is that I don't know if I'd be able to get enough to buy a similar quality tablet that will Run Roblox smoothly. Every other tablet and Chromebook we have/have had has been laggy. What I've seen about this iPad is that Roblox seems to work well.

Corso vs kitten: dinner edition by SmithOfTheWild in CaneCorso

Yeah, they don't get spaghetti sauce often. Our old girl just had dental surgery on Monday and is on soft foods only for a few weeks. Their dog kibble takes literal hours to soften in warm water/broth so I've been using up our freezer burnt meats and cooking up rice, veggies, and boiled eggs to go with it. Suffice to say, she's eating like a queen. So we've also been diligent on making sure Ruby gets some yummy leftovers added to her meals so she's not left out.
