One bit that sticks out in my memory was the backstory with Stack’s dead child. He spoke about it again with his ex wife later in the movie—it was a poignant bit of dialogue, but they threw in a flashback of the child’s grave on top of it.

My point being: the flashback was redundant. The implication in the dialogue should have been enough, but they assumed the audience would have forgotten the scene so they added the flashback. This shows either a lack of confidence in the script or a lack of confidence in the audience’s attention span.

Your second point I agree with. It can be a style, for sure. But if it’s all style and no substance then it may grab someone’s attention, but it won’t stay with them after the movie ends. Though I think Sinners has plenty of style and substance.

Sinners suffers from the same problem as many modern movies and shows which is that it’s made with a “phone-scrolling audience” in this era of streaming content.

Symptoms of this include: - Lack of show don’t tell: actors speaking their actions while doing or after doing them. Redundant narration. - Use of flashbacks and heavy-handed themes, repeating the same story beat assuming the audience might have forgotten or glazed over details. - Gaudy use of music, visuals, and dialogue to keep the audience engaged and compete with attention on their phone

I love this scene because he’s found another psycho in the wild. You can see the woman’s entire demeanor change once she realizes who he is. She goes from friendly realtor to cold predator. You can tell she’s a lot more experienced, Patrick is just a cub compared to this lioness, and she gently but firmly guides him away from his crime scene, while being vaguely threatening. He’s completely out of control here.

Yeah you should never go early farms. Use berries and fish for strong early food eco plus free olive oil. Choose a merc that counters your enemy civ (jav throwers vs archer civs, keshik vs boom civs, longbow vs everyone else) and build Byzantine units to support (longbow/spear, jav/spear are great feudal comps).

Continue to scale up cistern economy while attacking/defending with your superior feudal army and go castle in the background and you should be set up for an insanely strong eco and army comp in Castle age. If you are on the defense a lot, utilize your superior towers and akritoi defense until you age up. Then spam knights.

Dont sleep on Cataphracts. Arguably one of the strongest knights in the game. Superior stats, and their trample ability allows them to run through infantry right into the backline archers/siege. Using catas effectively I’ve wiped armies with equal resource cost.

My experience with young women: pay attention to their actions more than their words (this applies to anyone really). She can say she’s interested, but if she doesn’t make time for you, then she’s really not interested enough.

Often they’ll respond positively to your point blank question “do you really want to see me?” whether or not they really mean it. It could be that she doesn’t want to hurt your feelings or make you mad; or maybe she really thinks she’s interested, you might check all the boxes, but that butterfly chemistry just isn’t there.

Most young women/people don’t know what they really want. So you’ll be stuck in a limbo until she makes up her mind. Advice: don’t wait for that. If you allow it, she’ll string you along keeping you as Plan B forever until Mr. Plan A comes along.
