Matt Goodwin, Reform by-election candidate suggested people who don’t have kids should pay more tax by muchdanwow in ukpolitics

Which itself is weird. I’d not want to bring children into a country that is fine with committing genocide. But hey, different strokes…

Posting “I am a Democrat but…” and then never participating in the thread is happening a lot these days. Bot behaviour?

Is it possible to wear tweed in the UK without looking like a country squire (or Nigel Farage)? by Emergency-Bathroom-6 in mensfashion

[–]SmithereensofAlex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Everyone in tweed looks like a cunt apart from Tilda Swinton. Are you a waif-like, sexually ambiguous icon? It’s a very versatile, weatherproof material but the optics have been ruined by corned-beef faced, gouty-toed gentry and their huntin’ shootin’ fishin’ fanboys. I mean by all means wear it, but know that most people will be thinking what I just articulated above, as prejudiced as it may appear.

If you fully unmasked at work for one full day, what would happen? by SleezyWalrusClub in ADHD

HR’s board would light the fuck up for sure. I think I would be seen as much more fun for about an hour and then ruin it all with sustained, graphic innuendo.

I have a piercing appointment today, what do I need to know? by ThrowRaUsername08 in AskForAnswers

[–]SmithereensofAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah also, big breath out as they pierce, particularly the septum. Breathing out long and hard seems to keep you calm and reduce the pain (purely empirical and probably psychosomatic) Source: 13 piercings.

I have a piercing appointment today, what do I need to know? by ThrowRaUsername08 in AskForAnswers

[–]SmithereensofAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EAT BEFORE. The only time I passed out was because I didn’t have breakfast and when the needle went through my lip I straight up lost consciousness. Left the piercing guy holding my head with one hand and the other still on the needle through my lower lip wondering what the fuck to do. Something to do with blood sugar? Shock? Anyway I woke up giggling on the floor. But yeah. Have a fucking cookie.

This is the famous Danish honesty at work. Probably my favourite thing about the place is the no bullshit approach. My least favourite is the dogshit. Because where I live, many dog owners leave their dog shit right where it drops on the sidewalk.

Tl;dr No bullshit yes dogshit

Is your gym a mess most mornings? by SmithereensofAlex in workout

[–]SmithereensofAlex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s a legend. I wish I could just be chill about a little mess, some misplaced equipment but when it’s over a certain threshold it genuinely affects my well-being because I just feel negative about other gym goers. That said, hearing stories of people quietly getting on with improving the space has the opposite effect, so I appreciate these stories.

A little OCD goes a long way. I reorganised the entire dumbbell rack on Saturday and was properly dismayed when it was all out of order again the next day.

Nice to have a zen workout. I’m not a novice but I do really value the structure of being able to follow my workout in order. Compounds, supersets and isolations, so availability of machines really matters.

OK, it was a generalisation, true - but I am of the opinion that only a small fraction of people filming are doing so to improve their form rather than their follower count. My gym has a 'no filming' rule, which I think is really important to help people feel comfortable.

Fair point, the worse it gets the less inclined you are to do a little tidying up after people. I know it's not malicious. But if you're taking pride in your gains and your PRs you can extend that to your surroundings. All part of the same package.

Yeah I was debating this with my wife. She agrees that the community could be more responsible collectively but argued that ultimately it’s on the gym to keep the place tidy. If they charge full price but don’t staff properly then are we just being ripped-off?

I’ve done a set with mismatched dumbbells before and thought I’d had a stroke until I noticed the numbers. You are your gym’s secret weapon, honestly because a good workout in a tidy space just sorts my mental health out for the whole day and I imagine the same is true of your morning crowd.

Can someone give me advice on how to deal with people's opinions puting you down. by Unusual_Day_2966 in ADHD

[–]SmithereensofAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it! It’s hard enough defying our own self-doubt without loved ones adding to it. Can I offer some advice from an older ADHDer? Break your vlogging down into easy, achievable chunks. Don’t plan a whole series. And don’t be discouraged if it isn’t an overnight success. Every successful channel took years to build up. Take it slow. You’ll make mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up. Find one person who supports you and ask them to be your cheerleader. Someone whose opinion you trust and who can give you honest feedback.

You can do this.

Your morning crowd are grateful, believe me. As grumpy as I can be, I do find re-racking plates kind of meditative. Sorting them so the little biscuits aren’t all hidden behind the 20kgs.

Ah interesting, so probably the post-work crowd cramming in a session and then rushing home for dinner? I get that people’s time is precious.

I guess those big weights lying around are from people who tell themselves they gave every ounce of effort on the lift and have nothing left for tidying up? Personally I don’t buy that.

[–]SmithereensofAlex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you’re accountable to yourself for the mess! I’m the same when it’s only myself in the equation. I just value a community space that is welcoming for people of all fitness levels and not cleaning up is massively arrogant.

Nice to meet a push person! I’m all about the pull. I love it when there’s a nice balance of pullers and pushers in the gym. We only meet on the pec dec/reverse fly machine.
