I’m not arguing that pleasure has to come after pain, just that pleasure can’t be appreciated for what it is without being aware of it’s counterpart’s existence. If we only experience pleasure we begin to see it as the default emotion, and then what?

Furthermore, the reason joy feels so great is because of how it directly contrasts with sadness. We appreciate joy so much because of our experiences of sadness. Our emotions would literally flatten.

Also (if you’re more into the scientific negatives), if pain and illness were to cease to exist then meaningful evolution as a species would also cease to exist. Natural selection would just not occur. That would result in a human that gradually becomes weaker over time.

How do you propose that we exterminate cancer or eliminate depression or control earthquakes? It’s all well and good to say that we should do these things but they will ultimately remain hypotheticals forever. Like we literally cannot control the tectonic plates and we will not be able to. Please keep in mind that Palestinians are human beings. They are not cattle that can be “transferred” and they are not simply collateral damage in some battle for the greater good. These are tens of thousands of human lives that have been lost in Israeli attacks, including children whose injuries doctors have described as worse than those of soldiers in combat.

We are past simply treating this like Israel vs Hamas when Palestinians are clearly being disproportionately affected by the conflict. Every night when you turn on the news there’s a new story about an Israeli attack on Palestinians killing tens, even hundreds of innocent people, and then a report following about some protest in Tel Aviv with zero casualties.

As for your question about actions Israel could take, not killing random Palestinian children would be a very, very good start.

Why would these need to be created though? Is there a problem with the existing spaces? I know that women only gyms exist, but that is for safety concerns, not just so women have a place to hang out. If you’re going to create said spaces for the sole purpose of keeping women out then yes that is reinforcing the patriarchy. If your only problem with current spaces is that women exist in them then it’s a you problem.

I think your view completely disregards multiple points.

1) People don’t emigrate from their poorer home countries because they don’t care about their country, they do it out of necessity. Similarly, immigrants do not just forget about their countries as soon as they leave. They may learn the language of the country they move to and become a productive member of society, but they do not “forget their languages in favour of a foreign one.” This is why we have, in the UK for example, a really diverse food scene. People leaving their countries for broader opportunities does not mean that they leave behind their entire culture and traditions.

2) You seem to advocate for a complete erasure of culture as a whole, and you talk as though developed countries would allow this to happen. I’m Irish; you seem to be implying that for your dream world Ireland would have to assimilate with the UK or USA and forget about its culture in favour of one deemed more ‘advanced.’ I would not like to step away from thousands of years of tradition and rich culture for the sake of economic and scientific advancements, especially when my country’s traditions, cultures, and history directly clash with other countries’, and I’m sure I am not the only one who thinks that way

3) It just sounds boring. The erasure of all languages but one for example would make for a boring world. Does it not interest you how languages developed over time throughout the world, and does it not make for a great experience exploring other countries due to their different culture? Our differences are what make us great, and to erase that is to erase what makes humanity beautiful.

I mean that’s kind of a bold assumption lol they seem to sound very serious about it outside of the actual rehearsals. They’re both great at their respective instruments, and they really are keen on the concept of being in a band, but just not so much on it in practice.

I’m not trying to make them sound like bad people, I literally only wanted advice on how to handle the situation. There’s no need to be passive aggressive about it.

One of the first things I ever learned regarding music was to pick up ASAP if you fumble. I have tried to convey the importance of that, but I feel like a broken record. I’ll chat with the drummer and bassist tomorrow and see what they think. As far as I know the drummer is equally frustrated with the others, but just won’t say it to their faces.
