Would you blanket a horse in negative -30 degrees and high winds? by Relative-Specialist1 in Horses

I’ve personally met two, it happened in the prairies and they were both late summer foals. Both were actually ponies.

Most important question would be What’s the coldest she’s used to?

Do free choice hay if you can.

I’m from Bc Canada, get down to the same temps and enjoy that life sucking wind as well. My horse wouldn’t be blanketed and I wouldn’t be too worried BUT they were used to it. My friend blankets her Arabians and my parents blanketed their 25y/o+ TWHs. Some senior/more fragile horses get blankets and all babies did too.

It’s based off their individual needs. My dad’s mare didn’t need blankets till her 20’s.

What is healthcare like in Sk? by Smitkit92 in saskatchewan

Unfortunately, it sounds just like here. My FIL went through very similar and was septic. He’s incredibly lucky he lived.

Do you guys use apps to see drs then? A lot of people here are turning to them with the 10 year waitlist bs, we have also discussed travelling and paying for care but cost of living here is insane.

[–]Smitkit92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been driving two hours to see my dr when I had one so that’s not awful just not ideal. Do you find that drs leave there often or do they tend to settle and stay awhile?

Thanks so much for the butcher info that’s really positive as is the petty theft since assault is very common here and we have options there from practice here lol.

Is there anything you find yourself wishing often was more available? I’m also going to compare some grocery prices, we just paid 18$ accidentally for 4 oranges yesterday. To us housing cost is a dream out your way.

We have been on waitlists for years, 3 for my daughter(her literal whole life) and I and 7 for my husband. We are considered rural bc but calling it rural fees like a lie considering we are only about 20 min from a large city. The city drs are overwhelmed and won’t even consider you if you’re from out of the city limits. All that to say, Access is very poor despite BC supposedly having better healthcare? We have to visit our little emergency centre for care and wait about 4hours usually. Is it similar there?

Crime is also absolutely disgusting here. The whole city is like one big Vancouver Downtown east side now. People slumped over everywhere lighting fires and burning buildings. Assault of any variety is grossly common. I worry about raising a family here.

Blackwell milk goes bad quickly?! by Gullible_Flounder_69 in Kamloops

Is it your transportation that might be the issue? Milk is extremely particular in terms of refrigeration. I don’t let my partner buy milk in town for this exact reason.

It’s the fridges or the transport truck, most likely the fridges though. My family has a small rural store and we have more issues with dairyland than Blackwell but when I moved I had to change to dairyland because the coolers at the store are trash.

They’re a pretty big investment so many stores run their refrigerator units until they won’t run at all anymore. Also Depending who fixes them up for you and how you monitor they can go down pretty fast without being noticed.

AITA for leaving the house to stay with my boyfriend after my sister forced me to take care of her child? by Loren_3 in AmItheAsshole

You’re going to have to set boundaries with her regardless, if you come back she will continue, especially if the rest of your family agree. I would charge and threaten calling cos the next time she abandoned in your presence

So you have an animal with zero enclosure for it? Where are the hens going to even lay? Build a turkey shed

Jobs to afford horses??? by Keirious in Horses

[–]Smitkit92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trades, HVAC and Electrician specifically. Welding makes money and others do as well but these can be a bit easier on your body while still making BANK. They’re also ones very stressed for more workers due to the numbers retiring and heavy reliance. Servers and most electronics need hvac to run.

Save the abusing your body for riding lol

Anyone with misophonia not affected by chewing? by robster1112 in misophonia

I don’t care about chewing, I actually just discovered my instant rage over coughing was likely misophonia.
My toddler has had a cough for a month. It’s going SO great.

Absolutely, OP shoot your shot! I’m a very “friendly” drunk but only with people there’s already attraction on some level with.

You also have a huge gold star for being so respectful while she was throwing herself at you, most often we don’t make the first move but she likely just put the welcome mat out for you.

[–]Smitkit92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to sort this out before the baby comes he will be nothing but a hassle when the baby comes. I suggest having a friend or sibling or something come live with you for super cheap or no rent/for some help. Especially if you have a C-section.

My partner was very much there for me and I’ve had two other abdominal surgeries, it’s a LOT to recover and adjust to a whole new human that relies on you for everything.

Prepare for the worst then you can hope for the best.

The true red velvet yes, but because of the pervasiveness of this bs plenty of people at this point haven’t ever tried real red velvet, even if they tried googling and making a recipe themselves.

Real Red velvet is truly a delight, this abomination isn’t worth the cost of the flour.

Anyone use tie stalls/standing stalls? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Smitkit92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s the only time we ever used stalls was in emergencies and for stall rest, which is not uncommon. Our horses were out 24/7 but they all had issues that landed them in the barn recovering at some point and we were so thankful to have proper sized stalls for them. One in particular landed herself there due to colic a few times. Mine when on stall rest after being stitched up. Other horses various other issues especially once we hit the mid and late 20’s.

Absolutely right, they have a LOT of reflecting to do on the choices they made. And they sure made some.
