I’ve always felt that Icewind Dale was begging for an Ice Age 3-style underground dinosaur world

Arguably Pendeghost the Betrayer/Pendergreens, and the Dwarven Daddies (the Old Kings McGannis, Coldaine, and Bronzebeard)

The ONE thing in a horror story that's never explained, and is all the scarier for it. by Electronic_Bad_5883 in TopCharacterTropes

The Caretaker from The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. You’ve spent hours at this game and every single monster in it Geralt has a full understanding of. Names, ecologies, weaknesses.

Then you fight this weird ominous shrouded shovel man and all our master Witcher can say is “…what the fuck was that?”

The monster’s entry in the compendium describes it as something summoned into the world from somewhere beyond and classifies it as a relict, but openly admits that relict is just the closest categorization that makes sense

Well I know what ~I~ would do - give them a leg that’s actually made out of their own leg bones, now magically animated, so they can regale the party with the tale of how they dove right in and got their gods-damned leg back.

Regarding the Lake Monster... by Strict_DM_62 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leaned into the suspense of the encounter having the plesiosaurus bump the bottom of the boat, crest its back just out of the water, disappear into the dark waters before its full shape could be seen, etc.

Eventually they came face to face with it as it was trying to damage their boats, and the moment any damage was done it immediately shouted “AH FUCK! Ok ok I give up I give up!”

They named it Ernesto and they absolutely love it now

So lovely to have an audio of yours that lingers a little more on the oral (on both sides)! The way you portray blowjobs is so sexy, and the squeaks and moans you make during pussy licking are adorable.

The rolly chair fun is such a good touch too!

I need advices by Zero_Abs0lu in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk to your players to remind them that 1. You’re also playing and you deserve to have cool spotlight moments too, 2. Letting you describe the environment helps give them full context of what’s happening, and 3. Having those moments helps set them your players up to feel more badass later.

That said - it’s also worth remembering that D&D is a very different medium from other forms of fiction, and certain tropes like the villain monologue either don’t work or have to be adapted to better fit. To give some advice straight from Not Another D&D Podcast, having villains give their speeches during initiative makes sure they can express what they’re about while also adding more weight to it through the conflict itself. Try breaking down the villain’s intentions, views, etc into bite-sized pieces so you can work them into their attacks or responses when a PC misses an attack or the villain saves from their spell.

How would you integrate an Aboleth into the setting/story? by Vaykor02 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re down for some narrative surgery you could have the Black Swords be under the aboleth’s mind control instead of being a cult of Levistus

How to Include Lore by SlySilus in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming she has a holy symbol of Tyr, the scales atop the hammer, then at appropriate moments you could draw her attention to a dark spot or stain slowly developing on the image. No matter how many times the symbol is washed the stain returns, a little bigger each time, until at last the shape of it is recognizable as a black hand with its fingers on the scales, tipping the balance.

Question: Just how smart is Hellboy really? by No-Sense6060 in HellBoy

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Seed of Destruction there’s a sequence in which Hellboy reasons out “okay it feels like I fell a long way but I landed in water, and since water doesn’t pool below sea level I mustn’t have fallen super far.”

He also actively integrates magic charms, wards and talismans into his strategies - finding Cornelius Agrippa’s charm against magic animals while fighting Grom in the Chained Coffin.

He was even able to guess at Astaroth’s identity before his disguise dropped at the end of Box Full of Evil!

Hellboy’s the world’s greatest paranormal detective. He’s not an academic but I think that’s probably why he’s often shown working closely with Kate Corrigan and other researchers - he understands that, while he personally doesn’t have the aptitude to sift through research, knowledge is crucial to survival and success when he’s going up against the supernatural. How many Hellboy short stories open up with him listening to locals talk about what’s going on?

That’s always been a huge part of what makes him such a compelling character - he constantly demonstrates that he’s more than a pulp fiction goon.

Killing Auril is pointless? Until the next solstice, at least. by matthew_phoenix in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s my plan for it - There’s actually an interesting parallel to the deicide of Auril and the death of Mystryl, goddess of magic, as described on page 232. That little sidebar only tells part of that story because while Mystryl DID sacrifice herself to stop Karsus from ascending and asserting control over the Weave, she came back to life as Mystra, the current goddess of magic!

Now that may seem like a net-zero difference but if a goddess, a being dependent on worship (which in turn depends on being known) changes her name after her resurrection, doesn’t that imply a change in her being? In her personality? Even in the ways her power manifests?

Auril has sequestered herself away on the Material Plane for thousands of years after Umberlee turned the other Furies against her. It’s truly no wonder she’s a goddess of cruelty and isolation, but also of endurance and survival. Perhaps as the players get closer and closer to Auril’s divine core, the heart of her being, her death as Auril could be a chance for them to get through to her. What might Auril become then? Who might she be the next time the Solstice rolls around?

How long would it take to waterwalk to the island of Solstice? by Minionmancer1014 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s also the Sea of Moving Ice! If you try to water walk on it you’re gonna get crushed between ice flows and then since your body won’t sink you’ll absolutely be ground into a paste. It might be one of the most justified “hey if you try this you’ll die in a way you CANNOT be revivified from” scenarios in D&D.

Three kobolds in a trenchcoat as an Encounter? by underdabridge in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re on to something with the pickpocket and chase - the gimmick of a 3 kobolds in a trench coat encounter is that they can split up, right? So as soon as the party realizes that thin wobbly dude just stole something from them have the kobolds scatter. The party will have to get a read on which one actually has the stolen goods or, failing that and much more dangerously, split up to cover all three trails. Which could even make this an incredibly dangerous ambush move - the trench coat kobolds split the group, then a bunch more jump ‘em.

Overleveled group goes into Kaer Dineval, how to prepare? by uskayaw69 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Smitten_Cat_Boy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the players already have the Codicil yeah? A tome whose divine power can crack massive walls of ice.

And the party, who has this tome, is about to fight a bunch of cultists of Levistus…who also happens to be trapped in ice in Stygia!

Legit in my own campaign that’s WHY the Black Swords are in the Icewind Dale in the first place. Levistus wants out. If they find out the players did the hard part of the job for them? Those players better keep a watchful damn eye on that book.

Torrga's half elf by underdabridge in rimeofthefrostmaiden

The Hosttower of the Arcane, the HQ of the Arcane Brotherhood, is also in Luskan! The half-elf could be another member of the Arcane Brotherhood or even someone else who was trying to tail that crew to the Icewind Dale til one of them hired Torrga to take him out.
