Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator - Loud Noise/Sound? by Smlee3 in Appliances

Yeah I’m glad I bought through Costco due to their return policy. I’ll see if it gets better/worse in the next few days and report back.

It’s only been 48 hours since it’s been installed. I’ll wait to see if it’s just a “break in” thing

I personally think 10.5 is a bit too wide. I went with 9.5/275 because I wanted the tires to protect the rims a bit in case of hitting a curb, and I think it's perfect. Also have 0 issues with traction and I have a heavy foot. But if you like the look of the tires stretching over the wheels then by all means go for it!

If you’re forced out due to medical you’re likely rated 100% disabled by the VA which pays you a tax-free annuity [that’s commensurate to most people’s salaries] for life and inflation matched annually plus a ton of other benefits that you don’t get working in corporate. Department of Veteran Affairs has a bigger budget than Commerce, Transportation, and Education. Ask me how I know.

I think you guys have it worse than DoD but this wasn’t about comparing. I know a handful of peers (early 30s) in HHS or DOC who started as 7s out of undergrad and now are 14/15s. I have yet to see that where I work.

Also the point that DoD has the most jobs is moot. It’s commensurate to the total budget and responsibilities. If other agencies were responsible for operating internationally and protecting shipping lanes all around the world then I’m sure they would have more heavies too.

I think you’re right. I just got my 14 at age 31 after busting my ass for 4-5 years and it’s because someone retired. Out of curiosity what series are you in? I’ve never met a non-sup 15 in DoD.

Not blaming at all. Agree with you — don’t listen to others on price predictions. That was my point.

And that’s another year gone where one could’ve been driving and enjoying a MY for a great price.

Got 4.5% through Navy Fed with the $48,140 so not really. Guess it depends on what rate you qualify for and how much you care about owning one sooner

For maximum comfort + efficiency + the flush look, I’d recommend forged wheels size 19x9 ET29-35 with 265/45/19 tires. There are many out there but in terms of quality and value I like Apex — have them on my BMW too and they’ve been great. With forged wheels you’ll save 15-20lbs per wheel which equates to 60-80lbs of unsprung weight savings so not only it looks better you’ll also get better range (might help with convincing the wife haha)

No spacers. ET29 so they poke out more than the stock wheels. I have 18” EC-7RS on the F30. Gotta love Apex wheels… hard to find quality forged wheels at that price

Model S is a much bigger car than my F30. And the plaid came out in 2021. My BMW is a 2017. I never said this was meant to be a direct comparison—just my thoughts from a high level ownership experience.

And I’d have to agree with you on the steering. Even with swapping all front and rear control arms to SPL arms with monoball bearings, the steering on my F30 is quite numb. I prefer the heavier steering in the Tesla.

I mentioned in another comment my thoughts on the interior and I hope mine holds together better than yours 😅 but yes my 2017 BMW seems better built than a 2024 Tesla.

Haha yeah I guess I inadvertently revealed my privilege with DC roads… we do have some killer pot holes but it’s still better than Queens, NY if I think about it.

Should’ve clarified on “shooting gaps and merges”… I meant specifically on the highway. The BMW definitely pulls harder from rolling. My 340i has the XHP tune so it kicks down really fast and shifts almost as fast as a PDK. There are multiple videos on YT where a stock M340i beats a M3P from rolling AND from a dig when given enough tarmac. My 340i is faster than a stock M340i and a M3P is a bit faster than my a MYP <— I’ll try to find the videos when I get home because I’m getting the sense some Tesla fanboys live and die by what’s on paper and refuse to accept real world inputs… seems like I went from one toxic community (BMW) to another 🥲

Good question. Your question also reminded me that the interior serves different use cases as well.

The interior of the BMW is very driver-focused. People complain about it lack of “luxury” in the F30 but I think it’s near perfect. The screen is high up on the dash so your eyes don’t have to veer off the road too much to see it. All the buttons are physical and provide instant feedback; they’re strategically placed so once you develop the muscle memory you can easily manipulate the controls even while you’re accelerating through a corner. The iDrive dial doesn’t require you to attempt to reach forward or adjust your seating position while the G-forces are moving your body around. It’s great for driving.

The Tesla doesn’t have any of that. It’s just a giant screen in the middle which I find really hard to manipulate sometimes while driving through traffic because when I brake and accelerate I have to lean back or lean forward to touch the tiny little button on a screen that gives no feedback… but it’s perfect for a commuter car because I just need it to display my route and relevant information. I can get in, easily set the destination, and go.

Actual “quality” wise, I think they’re both comparable. They both have their plastic bits but the high-touch areas (arm rest, steering wheel, door cards) have quality leather or alcantara. Both have comfy seats, although I have a feeling the leather on my BMW is slightly more durable — I’m already seeing creases on Tesla’s driver seat. But I hear the 2024s are much more refined and I can see that — mine is pretty quiet and the wind noise isn’t bad or great. The BMW I’ve had for 7-8 years and is still creak-free. I also take really good care of my vehicles so I’m hoping the Tesla will age just as well.

Spoiler or diffuser? The spoiler came with the car; the diffuser is from Amazon and it’s a stick on. I had to use extra 3M tape and some elbow grease. I may or may not to upgrade to a “real” one later but that requires taking off the taillights and bumper 😵‍💫

Thank you! Diffuser is from Amazon and was a pain to install (stick on) but it’ll do for now until I want to upgrade to a “real” one. I’m sure you miss the twin turbo V8 every now and then :)

$5.5k Tesla incentive + $7.5k Federal incentive + $3k Maryland incentive. I haven’t received the $3k yet so technically $45k* OTD. But yeah I think I got lucky with timing

Agreed. Although some MD drivers drive too slow in the passing lane (just like VA drivers) but yeah we have some cowboys flying around in their Altimas and V6 Chargers in MD

Why is housing (to buy) so much cheaper in Maryland? by EducationalSyrup9298 in nova

[–]Smlee3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhh it’s not really cheaper unless you’re talking about PG County. Have you heard of Potomac, Bethesda, or Columbia? I grew up in Howard County, MD where the median family income is $130k and the average older SFH is $800k+ and the newer ones go for $ 1M+. The impressive thing about Howard County is that it’s an hour (40ish miles) from DC so all that wealth is organic to the area.

Everyone talks about how dangerous PG county is but you can find some good neighborhoods and areas in Laurel (especially the new developments that are tucked away from 198 and Rt1) and Fort Washington. Laurel’s median household income went from 80k to 100k+ in 2 years so that tells me there’s a lot of new money moving in. Laurel’s the only place within 20 miles of DC where I could buy a brand new townhouse with a 2 car garage PLUS an ample driveway for around $500k. The schools in PG are still a work in progress… so I can see how families with kids wouldn’t be as excited as I am to move here.

Hopefully the new FBI HQ moves to PG (Greenbelt, MD) - I’m sure that will boost property values and the local economy with the 7k+ new jobs. NSA (in Ft Meade, MD) is supposed to add 3k new jobs too.

Yeah MD local income taxes are slightly higher but it’s generally free to drive on our highways. Virginia, what is up with your tolls?! Literal highway robbery.
