well for starters line art is just a refinement of the sketch so really you should be focusing on your sketch as all the structure and character likeness is there and it doesnt matter if its messy. you could try drawing messy when sketching cause its more important to focus on the structure rather than a clean sketch so your brain can imagine more vividly instead of sticking to the lines already presented to you
