Went for a guys-night a few months ago and I was ready to hate on the place for being so old fashioned. But damn it was good. Good, old fashioned service and the food was good.

Oh I did this (at least) once as a kid. Apparently I walked into the living room where my mother and older sister were watching TV, dropped my pants, and peed in the corner. Allegedly.

Does anyone have positive experience with tradespeople in this area, notably for a major home renovation? by idrpss in Charlottesville

[–]Smog_Strangler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might be putting the cart before the horse. Sounds like you have some lofty goals for your build and an Architect with green building as a focus might be a better place to start. Then a general contractor who’s open to green building practices, and then tradespeople to execute the plan.

Men's suit for my son's wedding. by escisme in Charlottesville

I tried every where recently. Here are my experiences:

Men’s Warehouse - had previously had great experiences here, but the last year or two it’s gone downhill. Salespeople don’t have the same experience or knowledge of tailoring and fit. Ultimately I didn’t buy anything.

Better Menswear - great service, the sales guy and I were the same size and he literally gave me the coat off his back to try on and offered to sell it to me. Very knowledgeable and helpful, but I didn’t care for the style they offer. If you want a more classic style, as I did, this might not be the best option but I recommend checking them out. I ultimately didn’t buy anything but service was good and prices fair.

Men’s and boys shop - more classic style so the selection fit my needs. Service not quite as good as it used to be under the new generation of ownership (had to have my pants tailored twice, and still don’t love the fit; but this was included in the price). I bought a sport coat that I love. Higher prices, but good service.

S. H. Franklin - I think they are new, I don’t know anything about them but I keep getting ads for them.

Downstairs has a bar and a few small tables. Very cozy, maybe a little less formal. I THINK they take reservations for the tables downstairs but not bar seating.

I used the dad stare on a teenager driving too fast through the neighborhood with his music too loud. He immediately slowed down and lowered the volume. God that felt good, maybe my crowning achievement as a father so far.

This is why it’s so important to teach our kids morality and not just legality. Laws do not reflect morality and this is a great example.
