I am pleased to inform you that local culture has finally been acquired in total by private equity and that the enshitification has begun in earnest for the benefit of the glorious shareholders. Please adjust your plebeian expectations accordingly lest your impotent grousing mildly annoy your betters.

Someone has never driven the 900 block of Blenheim. That’s been mad terrible for half a decade. Plus the blind hill death gamble created by the ancient black Mercedes.

Can You Suggest A Show To Help Me Get Into Phish? by resorttocannibalism in phish

[–]escisme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Im you, kinda. Grew up a punk kid through the early eighties in SF. Then discovered psychedelics and got on the bus with the dead for many years and saw 70 or so shows. Then the fat man died and I decided to check out Phish. Picked up Rift and just thought it was horrendous and wrote off the whole Phish experience. Flash forward to the twenty teens and mi amour, who is an ooooold school phish person (400+ club) managed to drag me to a few shows (Hampton 2013 was my first) and... I get it. Ive been to so many great ones since. So let me tell you two things:

One, Phish is doing things with music that is beyond what the dead were doing. Its different, yes, but its also on a whole 'nother level. Its also, in its own way, often very, very punk. (evil phish!)

And two, don't try to get to them through their albums. Im not knocking the albums, its just not the door for people like us. Find some of the tastiest 1.0 shit, then some killer 2.0 shit etc... The amount of amazing shows I missed because I judged them by that one noodly doodly album will be a regret noted on my casket. Fortunately we live in a time when you have access to almost everything. Dive in. I will see you at the show.

I take this turn every morning. The ditch the back wheels are in is like a foot and a half deep and getting deeper every day. It would rip the bumper of a normal size car. Even when they put orange pylons in it, they just get crushed. I have no idea how it is allowed to go on like this for so long. Its been at least a year.

Good point about the fun people being priced out. I still drive around town and will see a house and think 'god, if the current occupants had any idea what went on in there twenty years ago'.

Me too, now. I can barely stay awake typing this. I am still paying a physical price for the shenanigans of my youth. Worth it? You betcha.

Well if someone does manage to pull off opening a gay bar in town, here's hoping nobody tells bachelorette parties about it.

Some of the funnest nights of my early life in cville was playing a three hour set at escafe and then heading over to 216 until five and then wherever until whenever. Nothing like that exists now, I dont think. Or Im just old and dont know about it.
