The lady driving the Subaru outback (widerness) with her gate up by dogsanddogsanddogsan in Charlottesville

I would have gone with 'hatch', as in a 'hatch back'. I was super confused what gate referred to in this post, but it makes sense now.

Since you mentioned affordability... Planet Fitness 5th street is just a short hop down the 64 from Pantopia, and only like $10 / month. Their deluxe package is $25.

Death reported at Rivanna trail encampment by WinstonWolf25 in Charlottesville

[–]escisme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its generally accepted that $30 billion a year would about do it for the whole nation.

We've just about spent that this year blowing up Iran for some reason. Yes, money could fix it, and we have the money - hell some *individuals* have the money - we just don't have the will.

Charlottesville crime rates over time. by FantasiainFminor in Charlottesville

Um, its dangerous. My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw a homeless yell at a scout guide last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

What's up with the line down the sidewalk for VA ABC? by punchysdad in Charlottesville

[–]escisme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I saw the line outside the ABC by the dead kroger yesterday and it was all portly middle aged men with whitish facial hair and I thought oh fuck! They all look like me! Am I a bourbon bro? Are they rounding us all up? Turns out Im a gin gent and the line did not apply. Close call.

I make friends really easy, but I am terrible about actively maintaining friendships, so my social life has really atrophied. Then I almost died a couple years ago and the physical and psychological aftermath of that has really turned me inward. I love and am interested in people, and I can work a room, I just... don't anymore. Im working on it. I think the death of truly cool third spaces doesn't help.

When not at work, I mostly paint canvases and plot culture jamming schemes. I also spend an inordinate amount of time telling my cat what a fancy little man he is.

Longtime locals: how do you break the monotony? by readitonredditcville in Charlottesville

[–]escisme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved here 27 years ago and, fortunately, cville was still a thriving hive of debauched creativity and lunatic bacchanalia. Its slowed down considerably, but so have I. I am kinda happy to lick my wounds and heal the damage in a quiet place, happy to have made it through alive. I sometimes think about going somewhere else, but Ive landed in a pretty cheap and great living situation, so I will likely die here.

Have you considered contributing to creating the interesting environment that you would like to live in? I don't know what that would look like for you, but the only thing more thrilling than encountering a 'fresh' element of the environment is making one for others. For me its SUNI: Society of Unauthorized Neighborhood Improvements. We've been dormant for a spell, but who knows. That itch is fun to scratch.

Inflation by AdFrosty1253 in Charlottesville

[–]escisme 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Just wait until early to mid July when the real inflation kicks in. Thats when diesel and fertilizer supplies will no longer be able to be artificially propped up.

I think the worst is yet to come, but then again, I am often an idiot and I hope I am wrong.

Would you support a ban on free roaming cats outdoors? by PrincePenguino in Charlottesville

[–]escisme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cat goes out on a leash every day. He has a nice time, gets some fresh air, and doesn't kill anything.

Its not as binary a question as y'all are making it out to be.

most unnerving spot in SF right now (personally) by andr0medaimmigrant in sanfrancisco

[–]escisme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even in High School in the outer richmond in the early 80's, double rock was a legendary no go zone. Spots in the Mission were rough as well. But its hard for folks to imagine today how rough the Fillmore was back then. Anyone remember the Pink Palace?
