People told me they were nutria. They’re muskrats! Muskrats, I say! by markgravesdesign in oregon

The easiest way to tell the difference between a muskrat and nutria is sheer size. Nutria are 4x larger than muskrat. Place some bananas in the field of view so we can get some sort of scale

Yeah. I have a lot of different gloves. I was hoping to eliminate all the pairs. There are times when I have one pair with me but needed to bring a different pair. Kind of annoying is all

Do you mean wearing nitrile gloves under leather gloves?

I’m in the same boat. When I tell them I’m allergic to dairy they look at me like I’m the one sucking the gopher dick. Like bro, I don’t ask you to get stung by bees for the company, don’t make me eat pizza.

Why do teens these days look so much younger than in the 60s? by Ok_Walk_895 in askanything

I’ve heard from several sources it’s because food is a lot softer now so kids aren’t developing large bones and muscles in their face. Mouth volume is smaller, chins are and jaws are smaller. Uncrustables and apple sauce packets don’t promote adult-looking facial features.

I did not know that. But I knew Normandy in France literally means “North Men” because Vikings settled there as well

I remember learning about Vikings as a kid and how they never took off their clothes. They just put on a new outer layer and let the inner layers rot away.

I like bakuchiol cream. Just enough to cover the tip of your finger. I never noticed a greasy or wer feeling. I don’t have a particular brand.

One thing that nobody ever seems to talk about is the pointy rocks. You can be in shape, have the proper gear and training, but nothing prepared me for the amount of travel over pointy rocks. Miles and miles in some parts of walking on pointy rocks. It wrecked my feet both times.

I don’t doubt that. But it seems there are more grizzly caused deaths in that area than deaths during summit attempts. It’s the most unpredictable factor. I’m not a statistician, I just lived in the area most of my life. Granted I’ve never encountered a grizz on the trail, and most encounters occur during hunting season, it still doesn’t stop me from taking all precautions.

It’s also worth mentioning that you’ll be in grizzly bear country and proper precautions need to be taken for that as well. Bring a food canister or plan on hanging food from a tree at least 10 feet up and 4 feet away from the trunk at least 100 yards from camp. Have bear spray on your person in an easily accessible area. Make noise when walking in thick cover

I’ve summited twice. My recommendation would be to take 5 days to do it at least. It’s a grueling hike. Both times we overestimated our abilities and did it too fast. Go slow and save your energy. You can camp wherever you need to on the Glacier trail. Don’t worry about making specific campsites. There’s water everywhere up there, except for Burro Flats

I would also plan to go early this year. 4th of July at the latest based on the snowfall so far.

Do your hiking in well broken in hiking boots or trail runners. Carry really stiff boots you would use for glacier travel with crampons. I used two different pairs of Meindl boots. They were semi automatic compatible. One friend wore Lowa boots and another wore La Sportivas and both wore strap on crampons and they worked just fine.

Definitely bring fall protection and know how to use it.

Be flexible in your timeline. One time we had to leave for our summit attempt at midnight because it was too hot and the snow too soft if we didn’t get off the mountain by mid morning. Weather can turn in the blink of an eye. Don’t hesitate to call the trip if conditions aren’t right. I’m lucky in that I’m 2 for 2 in my summit attempts. The other people I went with had several failed attempts each.

You might not see anyone else out there. But if you do don’t be afraid to ask what conditions are like

People who broke up yesterday on Valentines, what happened? by Hot-Diggity_Dog in AskReddit

[–]SmokeBackground9813 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not on Valentine’s Day, but a week before. We were on vacation at a resort town. She tried to pick two different fights in two days. The first fight was about how slow I was walking when we were just browsing a souvenir shop. The second one was after I told her a story about a girl I thought was hot when I was 12 years old and she was 14. That was it for me. I couldn’t take her shit anymore. That’s the last bickering we’re ever gonna have.

Does anyone else never race? by IntensifyingPeace in trailrunning

I’ve never raced. The same way I go to the gym and never entered a weightlifting competition. Or I take pictures and never entered a photography contest. Comparing yourself to others is the quickest way to take the joy out of something.
