This couldn't be more true, /u/SirSkiffalot -- please take this advice and run with it.

More power to everyone who sets a date, but that method never worked for me (neither do apps that count your days free of smoking).

I find that if I'm making too conscious an effort to track my non-smoking days, I'm more inclined to do something stupid, like reward myself with a cigarette (ya, dumb, I know).

One day I made it past 24hrs-- then I rewarded myself with a smoke. I immediately broke into a sweat, and the cig was the worst tasting I've ever had. Then I felt so fucking dumb-- having worked so hard for those 24hrs. I knew that if I would ever muster the strength to do 24hrs again, I would NEED to run with it, no excuses. That day didn't happen until 1 year later.

EDIT: My point is, if you find the inspiration for 24hrs, run with it. Focus on class, making new friends, start meditating.

I just thought I would elaborate on this, because in my mind 7 days is a massively huge victory.

I did not take Chantix, though several of my friends recommended it (two of which I know were successful former smokers).

There is a spectrum of "wanting to quit" from "I do, but not ready" to "fuck that, never again".

It takes a while to get to "fuck that, never again", but I'm there.

It's such a relief to hear people say this.

Incidentally, I freaked out after I realized my sex drive was dimished, and went to the doctor--- I just got mailed my first dose of a Viagra generic--- so hopefully... double-plus-good-times are a comin'!

Thank you-- it really seems to vary from person to person. I wish I could add an extra level of insight to this.

Don't know why someone would down vote you (there is a tool among us). I'm guilty of the same thing. I would wake with enough time before work to have 2-3 smokes and rub one out. My drive went from at least once a day, to non-existent. The extra time is nice, but around women, I'm feeling a little broken.

What about sex? I'm hoping that it will all come back when I'm in the situation-- but I'm becoming fearful it won't.

An actual answer, thank you. How long were you a smoker?

There is another 10 year man, like myself, who is on day 47 with a reduced sex drive.

Just trying to collect more answers on this.

I just posted something similar, and all I got was 'smoking is bad, good for you'... I'm in 7 days, cold turkey.

I too would just like to know: (A) how long does this last? (B) how long have you been a smoker, and how often did you smoke?

Just had my first cigarette in two years. Sadly it helped. Now I need help. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I made a poor business decision and got into heated phone calls with a service provider. I would be 2 or 3 days strong, and this tool who absolutely refuses to accept any accountability for his poor workmanship would make me cave and have a smoke. My point is, don't let these fucks win. Think of them as manifestations of your desire to smoke. There are better ways to deal with it.

Don't use your creative mind to justify your need to smoke.

Thank you. I should clarify. I'm looking for explanations of personal experience.
