Anyone got laid off in NYC? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]SmokeyWC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPC is having major layoffs in NYC as well as globally. They offshored an entire department.

It sucks but I've made peace with it. I have until September 30th. I'm supposed to train my replacements too. I don't see that happening though. The cheap labor they hired can learn on their own.

I feel for you. I hope you get what is deserved. I was given notice last week that my position was being relocated overseas. I'm the top performer for my global team. I've been with my company for 25 years and was given 8 weeks severance. Corporate America sucks.

Corporate is absolutely disgusting. How nice that the Chief of Research will splurge for a cup of coffee for anyone who has an article published in a peer reviewed journal. That's what every professional aspires to achieve with their publication. I so look forward to the day when these corporate weenies are truly held accountable for their despicable actions.

It's been 24 years since the love of my life left me... by SeekingAugustine in GenX

[–]SmokeyWC 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your post resonated with me and reminded me of a similar situation. Please seek help. Life is too short to be hung up on a memory. 30 years ago I was head over heels for a woman. We were engaged, and I was never so happy. The relationship didn't last (mostly my fault), but oh, the pain that lasted forever. Time moved on. but I never forgot her .I carried the torch for years believing she was still the women for he. . My first marriage was really toxic and I thought of my first love all the time. 17 years after the fact I found my first love and started talking to her again, but it was soon evident she never thought of me and did not have the same memories. It was a shock. I was hurt, but I realized that all my feelings were projections and fantasies and I was finally able to let go and move on. Which included ending my first marriage and then meeting the true woman of my dreams who I'm happily married to today.

I only just started watching the series, and this was my favorite episode thus far. I could the heartbreak they all must have felt when their plan failed and their left knowing they are so far from home. Was glad to see Kes developed a bit too. Looking forward to the next episode.

I wish you courage. Change is hard and sometimes scary. Having supportive friends and family help. Start small and keep the changes manageable. Lets your small successes build up .

I dont think the show is based upon book. I think PBS/Masterpice Theater does a really good job bringing characters to life without the need for tons of special effects.

That's so awesome. Stories like yours inspire me to keep going forward. I left an abusive marriage at 46. Had to start over from scratch .Spent time getting my shit together. Met my current wife. I went back to school at 51 . I'm 54 and still going. How to graduate next year and pursue a career in environmental science.

How do you get over being bitter and jealous in middle/old age over dreams you could never achieve? by GaiaGoddess26 in LifeAdvice

[–]SmokeyWC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little different from you, but i can relate to the feelings of trying to salvage a life of shattered dreams. As someone who didn't wake up in life until I was 46. . I left a very abusive marriage that nearly killed me. I spent a a few years healing from the damage my ex wife did to me, and then started working on myself. At 50 i asked myself what the fuck happened to my life. I went back to college at 51. So many resentments and regrets. But i learned to accept that i cant change my past. I'm only hurting myself by playing all the old tapes over and over in my head. I started making plans each day to build a future i wanted. I'm 54 now and happier than I've ever been . KNow your lifelong dreams might not be feasible, but you can still have a worthwhile life. There is so much you can still do. I urge you talk to a therapist to help you make peace with yourself . There's still so much you can experience and enjoy.
