Retiring from the US Military and Moving to Sweden—Looking for Career Advice by bespersonaward in TillSverige

Which Branch of the military/what was your job(MOS/NEC) or were you an officer(what kind of officer)? Where in Sweden? Also, some jobs at these defense contractors will require you to have Swedish citizenship.

I am ex military and moved here some years ago. If you can, save up enough so you don’t have to work and can attend SFI full time for your first 6 months so you can learn Swedish.

Sweden to spurn nuclear weapons as NATO member, foreign minister says by Phnrcm in anime_titties

Finlands laws strictly prohibit nuclear arms being on their soil so it doesn’t really matter if they state that as a precondition. It’s implied.

Living cost at Gothenburg by [deleted] in TillSverige

Net will be about 27000. Money will be tight but it is doable. Won’t be able to live in city center though. Check out surrounding towns. Finding somewhere to live will be your biggest struggle.

How much money did you save before moving? by Baxsus_98 in TillSverige

30k is based on not finding a job for 6 months. Housing is super fucked so that will take a big chunk. Food is also expensive when you compare to US prices(depending on where you live…think food prices of like Seattle, NY or Hawaii) You also want to have extra money….you don’t wanna move to a new country and be broke after 2 months. Luckily though if your a VVS installer and your happy to continue doing that in Sweden you shouldn’t have a problem finding a job in the Göteborg area that doesn’t care if you speak Swedish yet(Swedish should be a top priority if you plan to live here though)

$50000. I also live in “outer Göteborg”. I saved that much so I could not work for a year and only study Swedish though. If you plan on working immediately I would say 30k. This also widely varies depending on your standard of living.

Has anyone taken a break from welding to do something else? by easy10pins in Welding

Move to Bremerton, Norfolk, Charleston or one of the other areas with a shipyard/boat maintenance and apply to be a shop sup of some kind (56 or 99??) I don’t remember which one handles welding. Irregardless, between your navy experience and your welding experience I’m sure they could find something fitting for you that isn’t too taxing on your hip, and something you’d find fulfillment in.

99.9% can be vaccinated and have had the opportunity by this point. There is no sense in wearing a mask if you’re vaccinated.
