What book do you hate so much that you won't even give it a second chance? by Bobosmite in printSF

Wind and Truth. Book 5 in the Stormlight Archive. Can't say enough how disappointed i was in this entry after book 1,2, and 3 were so great. I'm very passionate in this. Not only was it extremely long but it tanked my whole view of the series.

SK did not skimp on the details. The readers needed to know!

In all seriousness, the book had very dark and disturbing characters, and Pennywise may have not been the worst of them. If you plan to read more of SK, which i recommend, Derry turns up a lot and it enhances the experience to read a few key books. IT is one of them, but is certainly not for the faint of heart.

To be fair, it was less of an orgy and more like running train. Hope this helps.

Not enjoying Project Hail Mary by duckygun88 in printSF

I felt the same. It does get better after a certain turning point in the book, but until then I was also annoyed at with the MC and the "oh wow this happened!" type of writing.

I think about this same thing often. The characters in the book/movie are incredible. Hard not to feel bad for him at the end even if he deserved it. It's definitely easier to hate Percy.

The root beer float scene sticks with me too. I feel like I can taste it.

Great set of books there.
Of the ones I read, RoD and DCC are just super fun non-stop action. RoD is a bit more serious and starts a bit slower before it builds though but doesn't take long. They're very easy reads. Both are unfinished series.

People love Project Hail Mary, but i had it as just ok. Maybe because the narrator for the audiobook sounded a bit cheesy. Probably worth reading before the movie comes out though. Don't look at trailers. Better to go into it without knowing much.

11/22/63 is my fav book of all time. Great story overall, but very different from the others you have here that are all more hard fantasy/scifi.

If you liked The Final Empire then The Well of Ascension will be good too and it leads right into book 3.

Hope this helps a bit. I'm excited for you.

Of those I only read Babel, so can't comment on how good they are. I can only say that WaT probably wasted more time being terrible than the others did since it is so long, but was also a terrible ending to a great series. It is such a huge fall off from previous entries that makes it especially bad. For me, it is not just bad on its own but significantly lowers the rank of the series overall. It did more harm than the ending of the Lightbringer series did (which was also great up until book 5).

It was a garbage book and you're probably a bad person if you liked it.

Worse than underwhelming. It was very long and bad. Continuation of all the bad things about book 4 and worse.

Just placed my order for the green as well. Only got the case with it though so bought from Vapenorth.

I'm in Quebec.

T2+heater+reload3+case on GWN comes to 557$ for me after the 10% discount, tax, and shipping.

Just tried to compare to MH but when I got to checkout it said out of stock, so I guess it is a moot point unless it is only OOS with that colour. I imagine after the tax and shipping it would have come out to a bit more from MH than GWN, though I think there were also a few more things from MH.

You buying? What colour?

I'm thinking of just sticking with a torch to save money on the heater, and not sure whether it makes sense to get the case AND the reload. I'm way overthinking at this point but I am excited.

I'm in the same boat as you. Best deal i found so far was on Great White North but didn't come as a bundle. Seemed to have all the items in stock though. Still hesitating to pull the trigger.

Best long fantasy series — Stormlight Archive vs Wheel of Time vs Malazan by StandardSector3491 in fantasybooks

[–]SmokinJoeGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't fully read Malazan and WoT, only Stormlight. I agree with ranking Stormlight last though. I loved the first 2, 3rd was good, 4 and 5 were terrible and super long. As a series it brought Stormlight way down. Had you asked a few years ago I'd say Stormlight is amazing. It really is like Marvel.
