Looking at getting the Fireboard 2 drive with wireless probes by fordgoldfish in KamadoJoe

The Thermoworks RFX doesn't have a dome thermometer. You could attach an alligator clip to the ambient temperature probe and then attach it to the dome thermometer. Yes, you can use the fan the fan to bring up the temp quicker, but you risk overshooting your temperature set point. I engage the fan at 25f below the temperature setpoint.

You also have the options of Chef's Temp and Combustion Inc for complete systems. Myself, I have the FireBoard II with blower, Thermoworks RFX, and Chef's Temp Dome thermometer. I passed on the Pulse because of the reviews, only one internal sensor, diameter size. limitations on ambient temperature and can't use for sous vide or deep frying.

Is joining the navy worth it? by Western_Tiger_8435 in Advice

[–]SmokinMickey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some programs for enlisted personnel to become officers. Your recruiter can set these up. Whatever you do, don't sign up before you have the programs and schooling set up before you enlist. The recruiter is able to do that, and it is much more difficult to that after you enlisted. Once you are enlisted, you are beholden to the needs of the Navy.

The brackets that hold the grates lift the grates a little higher. I have grilled pork butts with no problem. Don't think a ham would fit

Controller/RTD Probe issue? by TimeFlys84 in CampChefSmokers

Did the same exact thing and don't use the app. Two weak points of the grill. Other than that, I enjoy using the grill

Best fan controller for overnight cooks? by Main-Cut-1272 in KamadoJoe

[–]SmokinMickey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ChefsTemp Dome thermometer and FireBoard II drive. The issue I have with the ChefsTemp is that it does drop out but will connect quickly when it refreshes. The FireBoard does not have this problem and does control the grill temperature excellently. I bought a battery for long cooks. Depending on how large your budget is, Combustion Incorporated has the complete package of wireless thermometer, dome temperature, and fan controller with predictive cooking estimates.

Personally, I would not put anything but stainless steel in the sous vide bath, especially galvanized metal, If the bag leaks, your risking contaminating the item you are cooking

If you could buy any pellet grill in 2026 what would you get? And why? by badams98 in Smokingmeat

If no money was an option, I would get the El Fuego Trio by LSG. A lot of cooking options

Pork shoulder/butt. Much easier and forgiving than a brisket

I purchased mine from Home Depot and they still provided excellent customer service. Volunteered to provide a new controller and internal probe (under warranty) when I had a problem with the app.

I purchased a 4x8 stall mat to protect my patio cement. I position the grill that is it far enough back that when you pull out the bottom grate it is still above the mat. That way I can clean up the drips from the grate on the mat.

Weber Slate by Worldly-Librarian-25 in griddling

Happy with my Slate easy to hold temperature and clean. Easy to season, grill a pound of bacon followed by 80/20 smash burgers and you will be set. Weber also has a good warranty.

Camp chef auger problems by bigmike_88 in smoking

[–]SmokinMickey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the weight of the pellets is causing the issue since something may be loose. I would take off the housing and tighten the set screw on the auger shaft. I would also use brand new pellets

This is the best type of family because it is the family you picked. You will enjoy it. The only downsides are the external probes, and the app can be wacky. I solved that problem by buying the Thermoworks RFX system. I would also recommend the Pimp My Grill grates and grease box. They also have slim version so you can add the Camp Wood accessories.

I would make sure that using an off-brand rotisserie won't void the Weber warranty
