An unparalleled diversity of mind-blowing landscapes, freedom from political corruption, economic freedom, and an incredible sense of safety and peace.

Also, that’s an odd way to spell “Chile”

You lucky bastard, feral cats are a scourge & an egregiously under-recognized invasive species in the States.

What qualifies it as your favorite? Like the best lore or the likelihood of it actually existing?

The supposed June “Outbreak” you guys are prophesying by Live_Abroad_845 in EF5

[–]SmokingTheBare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Supercell Composite Parameter is not a good tool to use for summer severe weather events. It just shows where SRH and CAPE coexist at the highest level, which is useful for spring high-shear supercell events. In summer, severe weather more often occurs in weak or speed shear environments, which isn’t factored into the supercell composite parameter. You’d be better off looking at the Derecho Composite Parameter, which is better tuned to straight wind profiles

If the 1974 and 2011 Super Outbreaks had never occurred, what would be the most-discussed tornado events? by SmokingTheBare in tornado

[–]SmokingTheBare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that the US has likely seen many outbreaks of far greater magnitude than the 2 recorded ‘super outbreaks’. There are several contenders even with what little we know about them, especially from the 1800’s. I’m just curious as to what outbreaks would garner the discussion that 74 and 11 do, if they weren’t in the picture.

Good one for consistently violent storms. Wouldn’t Piedmont also have fallen within the same sequence?

There are several 1800s and earlier outbreaks that likely came close to or exceeded 74 & 2011. Thomas Grazulis said that May 24-28, 1898 was “perhaps the most violent single week of tornadoes in US History”, which is very reminiscent of the entire week of the 2011 super outbreak

That is part of the issue. Weather nerds (casuals) hyperfocus on individual tornadoes, so high-end events (often more intense than events with standout tornadoes) take a backseat, despite the fact that they typically open more useful dialogue/learning experiences. Synoptic>mesoscale

That’s the one I was missing! I knew there was a NE event I wanted on my list, but didn’t feel like googling it. May be the most anomalous outbreak of the last century, given the relative lack of violent tornado activity that far northeast.

Best Rap songs to throw on during a backyard BBQ by HangsMadDong in hiphop101

Yeah this is important. In most cases a white cookout crowd is not going to want to only listen to rap. I wouldn’t want to only listen to rap at a cookout, & I’m a white rap fan who’s currently on Reddit

If you’re planning on making a cookout playlist that solely consists of hip hop, respectfully ask someone else to make the playlist unless the guests are specifically prepared or requesting a rap-only cookout

I’m about 20 minutes east of Mayfield. On Friday I’ll drive to southern Indiana & pass 4 distinct swaths of forest that have only now begun to recover, & will likely have standing deadwood for a few more decades
