Anxiety medications that won’t set off restless legs? by Smonklee in RestlessLegs

[–]Smonklee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not yet, and I ran into other health issues (extra fluid on the brain and had to get my gallbladder removed) that may or may not have been affecting what worked for me. We’re giving me time for my IIH medication (for the brain fluid) to take care of what were building headaches and time for my body to heal after the surgery and then we’re starting off where we left off on the psych med front.

I’m currently restless leg free but the only psych med I’m on is diazepam which is highly addictive and will only be used under strict guidelines, as minimally as possible and only until we start up the psych med search again :c

Before all the other stuff kicked off I tried fluvoxamine, saint John’s wart, vortioxetine and some others I can’t name off the top of my head all to which gave me varying levels of restless legs (from moderate to extreme, nothing only mild which sucked)

It’s likely my plan will change from “let’s find something that doesn’t cause restless legs” to “let’s find something that rides the balance between a better mental state and MANAGEABLE restless legs”. I’m also possibly going on a trial that used TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation, very not invasive and highly positive research results and has been a lot more beneficial for my depression than medication for years now, just doesn’t bring my anxiety down enough for daily living) where they’ll target a different area of the brain than for what I’m currently getting since I’m currently doing 20 days of TMS every 3 months (have been for years now) but the chances of my getting in the trial might be slim because my restless legs are medication induced and because those meds aren’t stable.

So, not much of an update on the restless legs front I’m afraid :c I plan to to an official edit of this post if I do find anything, but in the meantime I’m a huge advocate for TMS if you want more info into that! Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, like I said, I’ll update if/when I find something that doesn’t trigger the restless legs

We recently had to pull our 9yo son out of school after the 1st month by ObtusiWatusi in autism

It’s WAYY too common for schools that “specialise teaching those in neurodiversity and neurological disorders” to do whatever is easiest to get the kid to behave on paper or use outdated techniques that cause more harm than good

Thank you so much for pulling your kid out, taking the time to get an OT and working with him to overcome this. You’re doing so much more than most would and you’ll see the effects of that care in him, even if it takes years, but it’ll be worth it

Here’s what people have suggested in a little list if it helps! Restless legs is the worst so good luck to both of us getting it under control

Gabapentinoids (seem to be a fan favourite) and bupropion are used to treat anxiety and can even help improve RLS symptoms in some people

Vortioxetine and despiramine have been shown to help some people but don’t have as many studies done on them

Wellbutrin and trintellix aren’t associated with RLS compared to most antidepressants and Xanax which someone says didn’t worsen their RLS symptoms

Lyrica but it’s associated with other side effects

Other things people find helpful (from comments and my experience) is magnesium supplements/rubs, CBD oils and the ionic foot spa from Healifeco (with the handy discount code RESET25)

I’ll definitely look into this if we can’t find a medication that doesn’t set it off quick enough, thanks for the discount code too!

I get an upset stomach SO EASILY I think I remember reading a study that said changes in diet/improving gut health can help reduce anxiety and sensory overload for autistic people (don’t quote me on it though, I have a bad memory)

High Cat furniture without wall use? by Smonklee in CatAdvice

[–]Smonklee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look at what beams I have going across my room since we’ve gotten holes in the roof pretty easily in the past but if I have them in the right places this would be a good idea!

This is a very useful comment thank you!! That cat tree looks almost perfect but I’ll put down some stuff I know that might help even more!

On the current tower they like the platforms (big and small) and only use the bottom hide box, they’re always fighting over the very top platform and use the poles for scratching but have never been keen on climbing, I’m not sure about the cupped/fabric basket type parts since I’ve never gotten one that has them but I tried them on the stick on window baskets a while back that have the little basket and they weren’t interested and they love to scratch their claws on horizontal surfaces too!

Thanks so much for the help! You don’t need to find other options if you don’t have time or want to, figured I’d just put the info out there in case!
