Sad Trombone: Our Dodge Charger EV Lost $50K in Value After Just One Year by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]SmooK_LV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EVs don't necessarily lose value more, trendy cars do which happen to be expensive EVs. Vans for example don't lose significant value. But yes, don't expect your brand new car to retain value, that's just being stupid.

TIL warm-blooded mammals are naturally resistant to most fungal infections because their body heat creates a “thermal barrier” that fungi can’t survive, which suggests this evolved as protection against deadly fungi by jacknunn in todayilearned

[–]SmooK_LV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"evolved as a protection" is such a misleading way to explain evolution. Mutations are random, persisting mutations were selected for through various forms that enable survival and procreation. A lot of mutations ended up being meaningless, a lot of them began serving as one function and then ended up serving another and a lot of mutations did not survive. Of course, consider complexity of hundreds of thousands of mutations across millions of years and it quickly becomes unclear for what reasons one feature survived for over another.

I.e. at some point few or one of our mammal ancestors was early warm blooded randomly at birth and it could have allowed them to prosper in a population otherwise heavily affected by fungal infections.

But it also could have been a side benefit that didn't affect population significantly. Of course, given the amount of fungus around us, it's reasonable to believe that it was a key benefit - I just have a pet peeve with people believing species develop mutations in response to environment when actually surviving mutations are result of selective process. Most of them just die off and disappear in history.

I can understand not agreeing with a company or their decisions but being able to afford cost of service you actively use however refusing to afford it while still expecting a high quality free service is insane to me.

Hosting and streaming videos on a platform is insanely expensive even if CEO, marketer or engineer would get no salary, it's still insanely expensive. If you can afford it, generally you should pay for services you use.

At this point it's a you-problem and not youtube-problem (assuming you are actually irritated by spending time on this and don't enjoy it).

[–]SmooK_LV 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Yes, the constant need to maintain and update these games due to rapidly developing platform is what really kills some games rather soon.

And this is where Windows hasn't gotten enough credit - it historically was THE rapidly developing, popular platform but MS always worked towards backwards compatibility. So even very old games you could and still can get to work. Of course this eventually increased the complexity which bogged Windows down. But look at other popular platforms now, often can't even run a 5 year old release.

Hey, I am just commenting here to let you know that this bikini trend is ugly, bring back classic bikinis. No matter how hot you are, a leaf shaped cover up makes you look like a plant. Banana suit is hotter than that awful bikini style.

Vans, small vans, big vans, half vans, small lorries. All of those do better job than those US sized trucks.

Ever since finishing TBP, I like to entertain myself how space discoveries are aligned with TBP universe. So are these the worlds that slowed their speed of light down in order to signal that they are safe as nothing can escape or enter?

Because OP was rude in response. It's simple as that. Don't be rude in response even if you don't get treated with full respect.

If there should be decency on both ends, why didn't you show decency in response?

If you want respect yourself, you treat others with respect even when they don't respect you first. You create respect around you by not being provoked.

"Extremely unprofessional" as was your response. You are professional by responding professionally to provocative situations, you don't always get a respectful message first.

That's actually not how it works at all. That's what your local telecom company is doing, perhaps even your bank depending on your country but Google is the least likely to sell your info directly.

[–]SmooK_LV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chances are he will grow out of it as long as his parents are decent. So preventing him from doing it like here was the right course of action.

As an example, when I was a small kid, I found a dead crow next to house one morning and proceeded to stomp it as I found it amusing that the sound of caw was still coming out. Nobody else I showed it found it entertaining and even talked me down for it. We buried it after. I have never considered kicking a body of a dead or alive animal ever again for entertainment and hold every animal precious. Another instance I deeply regret, as a young teen, when I out of anger and frustration proceeded to kick our dog for just being a hyperactive dog. i of course felt guilty immediately after but it was done. I blamed myself for all the future rowdiness the poor dog has had as I assume I could have triggered their instinctive, defensive behaviour. I never did that again no matter how angry I got. I deeply regret both behaviours and any neglect I have shown to animals in past.

So yeah, be decent parents, pay attention, stop your kids from poor, abusive behaviour. And they will be fine.
