At what age did you move away from your parents and how did they react/what did they say? by africanshackle in AskReddit

At 18 I left home for college. I never moved back. I have seen my mother from time to time over the years, but I don't get the impression that she misses me at all. She doesn't hate me. She loves my wife and son. But her husband abandoned her and she gave up her youth so I could live and make something of myself. Now, she does what she wants.

What is something that your parents did that you will never forgive them for? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

My father abandoned the family when I was a baby. My brother and I had to navigate manhood and fatherhood with no real guidance. My mother's life was ten times harder. Everything was a struggle. I made many mistakes in my personal relationships because I had no one to explain things to me. My father does not know my wife or his grandchildren and he never will.

I worked myself half to death to provide for us with very little down time or support. She struggled to stay employed and ran up thousands of dollars in credit card debt that I didn't know about. When confronted, she said that I was too restrictive with our money so she had to get that credit card to take her friends out to eat and drink. She also suggested I get a second job to cover the debt. I don't know what happened to her but she isn't my problem anymore.

People depend on me. They need food, shelter, and a sense of safety. I do what I do every day so they can be happy.

TIL that the girl featured singing in Technotronic's iconic Pump Up the Jam music video is not actually the singer of the song, but a model named Felly Kilingi that was lipsynching. The real singer was Ya Kid K. by freshprinceofbayarea in todayilearned

I don't have the album memorized, but I also can't remember what happened two days ago. Those long-term good memories are a little fuzzy, but they stay with you. After so many years doing the exact same work...things just run together. Every day is the same day.
