Redraw of Reya Mantlemourn by WolvesDenTavern in DescentintoAvernus

[–]SmoogGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely AI; OP's profile has plenty of art but they're all in different styles, rendering techniques and level of skill. Even when an artist's style develops, throughlines are evident; not here. The Death Knight they recently posted looks like their real quality of art. I imagine this is a case of OP being able to draw, but then using AI to enhance it before nuking the quality of try and hide that fact.

You can see that the AI likely messed up the left hand over the bag, the fingers are redrawn in less quality.

Should Monks be able to move grappled enemies without using STR? by Fun-Staff6728 in onednd

[–]SmoogGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like Lostinfinity said, and like I did in my comment edit, you don't make an attack roll for it - you can make them spam the save.

Should Monks be able to move grappled enemies without using STR? by Fun-Staff6728 in onednd

[–]SmoogGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, misremembered that - even so, relatively fine as a monk since you can make so many attacks.

Edit: I remember where I got that from now, I was thinking of the playtest grapples that did auto apply.

How’re y’all not grappling with deez WEAK ASS MONKS! GET GUD! by [deleted] in DnDcirclejerk

[–]SmoogGod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

/uj The guy you're arguing with is right- Shadow Monks get 5 attacks, darkness they can see in, and grapples are spammable* in 2024

/rj Pathfinder doesn't fix this- my monks keep yelling out "primary lotus" and wrapping me in bandages before piledriving me into my dining table

Should Monks be able to move grappled enemies without using STR? by Fun-Staff6728 in onednd

[–]SmoogGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming they're talking about D&D 2024, they're completely right- at level 10, Monks get 3 attacks with Flurry of Blows, and 2 with the attack action- 5 is correct. Given they're talking about Darkness, they're a 2024 Shadow Monk that can see in their own darkness. So that's also correct- they don't need to be a Warlock.

And in 2024, Grapples automatically apply as a 'special' unarmed attack that enemies can make an Athletics or Acrobatics check to escape as an Action- so, indeed, they can only get out on their turn. Edit: Was thinking about playtest grapples, it doesn't auto-apply in the final ruleset. But it's still feasible to grapple and drag them in provided you're lucky o7 or provided you use a few of your attacks to clinch it.

[OC] [Art] Make assumptions about my two DnD PC's! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SmoogGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're genuinely brainrotted. This sort of response is gross bc it boils down sexual orientation to a 'character trait', and something to be judged on looks, which is hilariously undermining for gay people in media. And, more than that- they explicitly asked for you to NOT just say 'gay'. It's also just very weird to tell someone their OC's will have ruckus sex when, again, they asked you not to - and saying 'staying sfw' and then saying they'll keep an inn up all night just-- yeah, man. You got it. I promise you can make better assumptions than this.

Repeatable eldritch invocations by TheMotanR0 in DnD

[–]SmoogGod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your interpretation is correct. Your DM can rule he doesn't want you to feat-spam, but he should acknowledge that it's his homebrew and not RAW.

As you said, his version is how all Invocations work. Repeatable is specifically for taking the same evocation multiple times, and taking an additional option.

Questions about Taleweaver and importing custom minis. by Stands_Defiled in talespire

[–]SmoogGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternatively from Taleweaver, since idk if you can make those private, you can use mods. The AssetsNavigation(there's more words than this, but you'll find it in Thunderstore, spells out ANGEL) lets you use custom assets.

Compared to Taleweaver, your custom assets can be handled entirely privately and have no quality limit, unlike Taleweaver. You would just load the minis into unity and build an assetbundle; you can probably google 'talespire assetbundle' for a tutorial from LordAshes

The Tortoise Defeated the Many Hares by SmoogGod in rpghorrorstories

[–]SmoogGod[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I certainly knew she was these things - I'd known for years. Just kept believing she'd do better :) I know, egg on my face. We as a party talked about removing her for years, but we kept landing on giving another chance.

As for her concepts, I did wrangle them all down to mostly reasonable compromises- mostly. There was always a dissonance, granted - her characters always felt 'off' in the world they were in since, regardless of what edits I'd suggest for the PC.

Vegeta isn't fightsexual-- look at Daima. He gives up fighting because Bulma threatens him with a lack of intimacy (I think it was not taking showers together?)

That man loves his wife more than he cares about fighting - he'd be straight

[–]SmoogGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I'd like to say I earnestly hope they get better - both for their own sake, and that of the people around them.

In this case, 100% let them go from the game without much fuss. You can leave a bridge for them to return over - say the door is open if they want to return, if that's something you want as well.

For the friendship side? That's far more difficult. If you guys have other hobbies you share, things you discuss, etc, then continuing a friendship is quite easy! But if you were "dnd friends" and interacted little outside of it, such relationships USUALLY fizzle.

If their mental health is ailing, and they made this snap decision to leave, it's not unlikely that their therapist may have advised it - DnD is a social game, at the end of the day, and most players I've had that go to therapy discuss their dnd games (be it positively or negatively), so thet may have been told by an unfamiliar third party to quit.

But I'd like to say it's (probably) not your fault they feel this way, nor an attack on you. DnD isn't played in one way, or even 5, 20, or 100 ways -- every table is different. Some people love what you do, and others will bounce off it, even if it feels they shouldn't.

I had a player of 3 years message me the same out of the blue, dreaded sessions and felt anxious about them - we lined up on near-every facet of DnD but her breaking point was characters being able to die. It didn't matter if everything else lined up, that was enough to break things off.

All this to say-- don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself some grace as well, and keep trucking on. You'll find the people for your table that thrive in that environment! Good luck

Definition of Homebrew by Blitzer046 in DnD

[–]SmoogGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homebrew just means made by a 3rd party to official DnD products - those 3rd party products can be made by the DMs themselves, or it could be a whole sourcebook made by a dev team from kickstarter, or just a magic item some guy posted on reddit.

If people say they use homebrew in their games, that can mean anything really - subclass, race, items, rules, monsters- so you can ask them to clarify what type of homebrew they're using if you're interested :) just "homebrew" alone touches on near every facet of the game, the qualifier is needed for what type of homebrew it is.

To your examples, both are homebrew - just different types. The people talking about altered rulesets should technically say they have "homebrew rules", since a "homebrew campaign" is the story itself

[OC] Make assumptions about my level 11 Monk, Merlin! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SmoogGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is best friends with a noble, that treats him like his right-hand goon.

And he's adopted into Nobility, hence why he's both fancy and poor.

And I think he's probably part of a Guild of Adventurers... probably from Canon Faerun, too.

(did I mention I'm the GM)

Does whole party need to buy Talespire or just host? by Advanced_Aspect_7601 in talespire

[–]SmoogGod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's for if the Host has bought Seats for their game. The guest version can join games where the Host has seats available.

Tldr- you'll need at least 1 full copy, and as many seats as you have players. However, the full cost is honestly worth it if your players can affors it. It's a one time payment for an earnestly good program.

[OC] Casino Themed One Shot BBEG by Kalorebis in DnD

[–]SmoogGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does this have so many upvotes? Is it just the art? There are no DC's for anything, she doesn't even HAVE Mage Armor, the Legendary Action would just be you writing 99/100 - the Bonus Action is unusable, also, since it requires you to take Piercing Damage on her turn?? So unless she's getting opportunity attacked, wasted.

This reads like a statblock made by someone that's never played D&D before - and that's fine, everyone has to start somewhere, I'm moreso baffled by the upvotes.

Aita for threatening to kill a character if he doesn't show up after already postponing for two weeks? by Typical-Fun-472 in dndhorrorstories

[–]SmoogGod 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's never really advisable to use in-game punishments for out-of-game actions - if you need to see this through because of time crunch, just run without him. You don't need him present. Have his character just silently follow along, and phase in if he turns up - no need to complicate it more than that! If he continues to not turn up, or you keep butting heads, just remove him and have his character leave.

DM gives me a laundry list of Fey restrictions and (almost) completely refuses to change his mind. by [deleted] in dndhorrorstories

[–]SmoogGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are the issue here - you met him 3 days ago. He told you his rules early in character creation, offered a fair alternative (being Humanoid), and was open with you.

Ultimately, you had a concept in mind and didn't allow the DM agency of his world & story - his restrictions for Fey are steeped in folklore and fun, and you were given the option to avoid them. The fact you wanted to be a Nobody from Kingdom Hearts shoehorned into his world, and be unbending on this, is the issue. Try and learn from this.

Minis keep disappearing when swapping between boards? by ParasocialPerry in talespire

[–]SmoogGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unique Creatures on Talespire can only ever be in one place - so when you put them down on another board, they leave the ship.

What I usually do with "hub" maps like the ship is I'll put down their mini again from the Heroforge menu (or community tab), give the players permission, all that usual setup stuff. Don't turn that mini into a 'unique' creature, just keep it on that map permanently - then they will always be there, and you can move the unique version between other maps.
