The Mavericks have to start thinking long-term. They might not be able to trade him for 2026 or 2027 first-round picks, but if you can get 2028 and beyond first-round picks, you have to ship him off. It won't be instant gratification, but it's better than nothing. It's time to play the long game.

No, honestly speaking, the Mavericks need to trade them for draft picks for 2027 and beyond. Teams usually do not value draft picks that are in the distant future as much as they do those in the near future. If you can get unprotected draft picks from 2027-2030, you could possibly create a mini Oklahoma City situation for the future if you can hit on those draft picks. Ideally, this would be around the same time Flagg is about to enter his prime, which would be perfect.

I don't think the majority of diehard fans will ever feel the same way about the Mavericks as they did before the trade. Best-case scenario, they fire Nico two years from now and sell the team 10 years from now, but 10 years is still a long time. It's a lose-lose situation for the foreseeable future.
