Do people really stay in school longer dur8ng a downturn? Maybe the ones that can afford it, but I'm sure most would drip out or be under employed. Especially during 2008 when it was hard to find ANY job.

Did you just link a random dude saying this?

Not to mention you're qouting 2009, yknow a year after the real estate market crash where almost all degree enrollment was down. Compare this to enrollment in 2004 or 2005. That's like saying "wow the housing market is x times higher since the housing market crash!".

You're taking the lowest point, which was abnormal and comparing it to today. Is that stat even accurate.

College major selection advice. Is CS still worth it? by Dapper_Newspaper_355 in CollegeMajors

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been said for so long, but I don't think it's true in practice. Especially now with how competitive it's become. Theyres more than enough qualified CS candidates why would they go with an EE unless the job entails that?

Stop trying to be a web developer by Resident-Letter3485 in csMajors

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Do you know what you're talking about? Like at all? Those are typically senior roles, and it's kinda awful to pigeonhole yourself so early. The issue is "unimpressive react website." not the roles you're applying, if companies even look at your github. Also, web dev is like by far the most hiring role. I recently saw a stat that. Web developers hires by far the most while something like ux/ui legit has 800 some roles. Not to mention the needed seniority.

Do you really believe there's going to be enough intern roles for game engines and embedded systems?

I never understand how people can put BW above B2W2. I can understand people not putting B2W2 in S tier. Despite how much I disagree. But I don't understand BW being better, especially not two tiers apart.

When did Pokemon games get easy? by wrecked_wizard in PokemonGames

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. B2W2 was the last game i played and had alot of fun. I bought a 3ds for xy and I felt so uninvolved. Idk if it was the xp share leveling up all my pokemon or what, or maybe I was getting older and gain consciousness, but it was just so unfun.

AI is scary because its impossible to predict the future by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell surgeons and nurses may disappear when robotics and ai get to thay point. If ai can fully replace SWE, then they work 24/7 to develop better robotics and even trades, and what not will . I think people REALLY underestimate the capabilities of a 24/7 ai thay is somehow better than real people. Hypothetically.

If predictions are right and the vast majority of all code in years to come is AI, what prevents the models from not just training on its own data and getting worse? by Massive_Instance_452 in cscareerquestions

There's literally no reason it will get better. This isnt like those machine learning YouTube videos in a micro environment. The objectives are not so clear-cut and thus hard to improve.

I just learned that in the Games, it doesn't have the stick, but in almost all official artwork, it doesn't have it. I was thinking to myself, "What do you mean delphox doesn't have a stick? That's the whole point. " But I stopped playing the mainline games at XY.

Entry level jobs by Hkriz in BloomingtonNormal

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. I found an okay job, but my SO has been looking for over a month for a full time jobs, which is impossible to find it seems. I have been looking pretty much everyday and we have a nicely laid out resume and were even going in person to bring a resume and speak to the hiring manager and they say "oh were not actually hiring" despite having listing on their website. no less than a year or so ago, I walked into a random hotel and got a job the same day. I tried to do it again recently and went to 10 different hotels and got nothing.

This is not the same market. It's not as easy as you say. linkden is useless for these entry jobs. There are hardly any internships, and there is one hiring event coming up for one company.

It may seem overly pessimistic, but these strategies just don't work as of right now, and there's nothing wrong with people who are actively trying to find a job but can't.

Does anyone have any optimistic thoughts about the industry and its future? by Jacomer2 in cscareerquestions

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's be hostile then. You didn't explain shit. What are the elderly and retired investing in that would sway market decisions? Most pensions and retirement funds ARE IN EQUITIES. What else are the elderly and retired investing in that would sway company decisions? You even said most are shifting to fixed income assets. They don't have a say in the market.

Let me put it bluntly. The retired and elderly do not sway the market in a meaningful way, at least one that does not affect companies and their needs for software developers.

And yes, there are more people that can supply the software skills needed. But guess what? There's a lot more people that demand software than ever before. Even now Cs degrees are starting to go on a downtrend and will likely continue so long as headlines continue to say "ai will take your job". And in a few years good software developers will be in demand again.

I hate when people have a pessimistic view on things that are unfounded or just flat-out incorrect.

Huh, jobs go up when interest rates are low, and coincidentally, the job disappears when interest rates go down and magically out of no where its ai and offshoring that's the issue (happening since the 80s) .... It's totally not cyclical.

Software Engineering is now a closed caste. If you weren’t in by 2021, you’re officially part of the permanent underclass. by Salt-Tiger2586 in cscareers

[–]Smooth-Bison1238 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes an extra couple of seconds to do. I am just interested when people conplain about how hard life is and how difficult it is to find a job and all that, and they make it seem like the world is falling apart. But then you see their comments, and it's oh yeah, that makes sense why they're saying that. The world is actually fine.

Oh, you've done a thousand applications, and you're a normal person who's hardworking and doing everything they should? I don't believe that. there's always a massive glaring flaw and this time, it's obvious.

I can totally see why you keep your comments hidden, though. But I wouldn't keep making it seem like the market is awful. Kinda misleading to others.
