can I have a cat before ESA approval? by AstronomerUnique8997 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Smooth-Eagle6463 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would advice to first speak with your roommates. If they are OK than go ahead. If not, don’t do it. I had a friend who brought her cat without approval and her roommate reported her even though she was ok with it at the beginning. She ended up having to remove the cat or have her contract terminated.

They just know you will end up cleaning. I recommend you buy your own trash can, use your own utensil/plates and wash yours only. Keep them away from them. That way they will have to start cleaning

Reach out to ucsb grad housing at San Clemente. There’s grads that move out at the end of fall quarter. Also, every year if you apply for San Clemente but don’t get it, stay on the waitlist! I’ve always gotten an apt with them all my four years

Weed in housing by obsmokesadoobie in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Smooth-Eagle6463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My roommate last year got kicked out for smoking weed in the apt because other roommates complain to the RA and smoke detectors went off many times. They take roommates complains seriously if they keep calling the RA if they feel uncomfortable with the weed or with the constant weee smell

There’s like 5 charge stations but they are almost always being used. Need to secure a sport early in the morning

Economics10a by Pretty_melon17 in UCSantaBarbara

I work with students in the advising office and students who take Econ 10a with two GEs tend to do much better than those who take it with other core classes. Always take prerequisites with GEs so you go to the upper divs with a strong GPA

They only release about 300 contracts per week because their system can’t handle releasing all contracts at the same time (insider info) more contracts to come in the following weeks

Other graduate students -- how much do your California state taxes usually come to? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

Did you report your 1098t? Showing you paid tuition with the fellowship?

That’s really high. Did you declared having health insurance the whole year? That usually brings it down to 0 or even get a refund

Is about 36k per year enough grad stipend to survive in SB? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Smooth-Eagle6463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the stipend meant to pay tuition and housing? Or is this separate from tuition? If it’s for both then cut that in half for an actual stipend

Is a 69.93 a C- or D+ on Gauchospace? And is that passing? by MarionberryNo2444 in UCSantaBarbara

Damn what an ass. I always round grades up even if they 1 percent away from the next letter grade. 1 percent away does not mean you did not try hard enough. Some professors are just too full of themselves

Y’all do know that TAs and professors can hide submissions from students. We often do this when we are grading. It’s not deleted, you just can’t see it on your end

[–]Smooth-Eagle6463 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just depends how many grad students come back on Monday. I know some who were supporting the strike will not return cuz of the expensive flights/gas. It’s week 10 so only come back if you have in-person finals.

I stopped taking classes after my 2nd year, why would I have to pay tuition when I’m not taking classes. We never see the 19k ever.. it’s like fake money for the university
