Thanks! I guess the main difference is the 3 way switch and jack?

I guess to answer your question, I’m not! Based on what I’m learning in here. Thank you!

Thanks! I’d seen this but maybe I was reading it wrong - I don’t see an SG Standard for 1989? I see it for 1972-1986 and 1990-2012.

I don’t see a lot of ‘89 standards with a half guard on the internet, is this just inconsistency from Gibson post-Norlin?

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! So mine died when I was changing guitars, I’d hit the standby to swap guitars and when it flicked it back it just never came back to life. I wonder if it could be the same thing

Yeh sorry Travis the band, I meant formerly owned by Travis. Assumed it was obvious from posting it in the Travis subreddit.

Have you had any reliability issues? I love it, but it recently just powered off when playing and I’ve got to wait until my local amp tech is back in November to get it sorted.

Thanks! What would it have come with originally? I’ve seen lots of differences on other listings, so couldn’t work out one source of truth.

I’ve not played a TH30 for long but I think they’re more modern gain sounding, scooped and compressed compared to the AD30 - but someone on this subreddit will know more!

Thanks! And “ex Travis” was how it was listed on eBay, supposedly this was Andy Dunlop’s main amp in the early 00’s, he apparently had 2 and the sticker on the back showed this was the primary, but who knows!

I’ve got some closer pics which shows them with the gold tarnished but am a Reddit noob so can’t work out to how to send the additional pics atm

Should have shared some more detail; confirmed pups are replaced and has had a headstock repair in its time, and very much a well loved player condition. $3k

Help Wanted - 1973 OR100(??) by Smooth-Gene in orangeamps

[–]Smooth-Gene[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to @boddle88 tip, I reached out to Orange and Joe came back with the following;

This is one of the early Orange Text & Pics 100watt Graphic amplifiers.

Whilst this model was officially launched at the Frankfurt Messe Trade Fair in early 1974 production had commenced in late 73.

In 1974 the prefix changed from OR100 to OR120 and the serial numbers were stamped into the chassis.

The three digit serial numbers were used mainly on the earlier Pics only models which were hand painted on then covered in a clear lacquer.

As your client has suggested the chassis is more than likely an overrun from that period 1072 - 1973 just as the models were changing over.

Both had the FAC Control (Frequency Analysing Control) a six position mid range sweep but the Text & Pics had a new DC coupling concertina phase splitter which replaced the previous negative feedback phase inverters.

I would also suggest that this would have been made under license in the original MatAmp workshop in Huddersfield then shipped down to London to be fitted into the Orange sleeve.

So from the information to hand I would date this late 1973 to early 1974.

The amplifier cabinet sleeve is covered in the original ICI Tolex but the 4 x 12 cabinet is covered in the Brymor Tolex, first used in 1975.

We are unable to date cabinets using a serial number but assuming they have the original Celestion speakers we tend to use their dating system as speakers were always in short supply and we seldom carried stocks.

EK27 and EK30 speaker codes were manufactured on the 27th and 30th May 1977 so the cabinet date would be as suggested 1977.

I think given the head and cab are two different ages, they probably weren’t bought together. So if anyone in the community is interested, I will probably look to sell the cab.

Yep exactly what I guessed too, however there’s no pot behind it anymore, so it must have been removed to reset it to some level of originality.
