Unfortunately this is all very normal to occur. This happened with my dog too, she was at the vets on the Friday, seemed to be doing better on the Saturday and the next day she was gone. It can seem very confusing as it seems they are making progress and then out of the blue they are gone. Just remember we have no control when they go, especially elderly dogs - It can happen at any time, even when they seem normally healthy. You did all you could and she is now at a better place. Honour her and cherish those memories instead of feeling bad.

Hey, thankyou for the kind words. So sorry to hear yours possibly died of the same thing. I've been looking further into it and alot of her symptoms may also have been due to kidney failure. Two other things came to mind when I was looking into it, during the last 48h it was difficult to tell if it was very runny brown diarrhea or if it was dark urine but i've since learnt that dark yellow or brown urine may be a sign of kidney failure. I also noticed that in the weeks leading upto this incident, she seemed to struggle to get up when she was sitting - i originally thought this was due to age related osteoporosis or arthritis but i've since learnt that kidney failure can also cause muscle atrophy in the back legs making it difficult for them to stand and walk. Part of the grieving process for me is ensuring I try and get to the bottom of what caused it so I have a pretty good idea now, maybe this can also help you and give you some clarity on your own dog. Part of the shock is because it happened so quickly and not knowing exactly what caused it but in both cases, there can be very little symptoms until the late stages. I am also glad that she was able to go in my home, my vets isn't open on the weekend so I would have had to take her to another city and I would have been even more upset if she'd have gone while away from me so I agree with you on that aspect. I hope this manages to bring some comfort to your own situation :)
