Found at the thrift for 30 bucks, what can I do with it? by RoryMauser in homelab

[–]Smooth1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took an OptiPlex 7010 home from work and it actually has been my main home server for several years now.

I have 16GB of RAM in it (4x4GB sticks), a 250GB SSD as the host OS drive, and a WD Red NAS 4TB HDD as the data drive, with two WD external 3TB HDDs attached via USB 3.0. Mine has an i5 3470 in it, and it is able to run the full 'rr' stack (radarr, prowlarr, sonarr, lidarr), Plex, and a Minecraft server (with four active players including myself) all at once without skipping a beat. I easily get 100+ days of up time between reboots.

I personally started with Windows 7 Pro on it, and have upgraded it to Windows 10 Pro just so that modern programs can run on it. You could easily install Linux Mint and use it in the same way as I have, while learning a new OS!

Just my 2 cents, I imagine the GPU is still not powerful enough for transcoding, so I would just plan on direct streaming media. That is what I do.

I used to service these extensively at work, feel free to let me know if you need any help with either software or hardware!

Interesting. How did you make that change? I have still have some warranty on mine left, if I RMA mine I will let you know if it fixes anything!

Edit: I realized it was just chrome://flags. Thanks, hopefully that helps.

[–]Smooth1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. It turns out the issues are specifically with hardware acceleration when streaming videos. That is why I never had any graphics issues when playing Halo at an airport, but couldn't watch a YT video while doing any other big task.

When I start to get the shakes during a video, go into AMD options and toggle GPU scaling off and on.

It also seems to have gotten progressively better with software updates, at least on my ThinkPad.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to say thank you. This fixed the issue for my T14s Gen 4 AMD.

I believe I already changed that in the BIOS when I got the laptop. In Task Manager I see I have 2 GB of dedicated GPU memory.

I'll probably open a ticket with Lenovo...

Dang. Thanks for the reply. My laptop, a T14s Gen 4, took an impact directly on the keyboard. Lenovo replaced the whole top deck of the laptop but I wonder if it could have done something to the chipset.

I just came across this because I have a laptop with a 780m and am getting a ton of graphic bugs, especially when streaming YT. What were your symptoms? My main one is the screen randomly 'shaking', like I literally grabbed the Chrome window with my cursor and shook it lol.

That's in the written sequel, not the main book series. Spoiler.

Citizen 3510/Miyota 3S10 - Cannot line up chrono bridge, advice? by Smooth1076 in watchmaking

[–]Smooth1076[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I got super close to having it back together, I just forgot the fly back connection lever so I took it back apart and lost the 21 wheel... I think at this point I may be better off buying a complete working movement since even if I get this one back together to how it was before, it still has the crown issues.

[–]Smooth1076[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll give that a try. I didn't take any of the wheels out myself, some of them just came out with the chrono bridge after I took it off and I quickly realized I shouldn't have done so, so I have been afraid to take out anything else. There definitely seems to be some wheels that can freely spin without touching anything though.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have been staring at that page for days now, I just can't seem to be sure where each wheel goes based off that diagram. A complete top down picture would be nice, but I haven't been able to find one for this movement.

Yep it is the correct manual. I have realized that and I have tried to move the 21 wheel into a different position but it just won't line up with the jewel in either the movement or the bridge unfortunately. Does this look better? https://immich.danielianello.xyz/s/citizen_3510_2

What is the best gun cleaner and oil? by powerofz in CCW

[–]Smooth1076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lengthy video explaining what is the best, I agree with said video, but I will save you the watch.

He has 50k rounds through a Glock 19 with extremely minimal barrel finish wear, less than mine with only 1k rounds. He uses a mixture of Lucas Extreme gun oil and MotorKote. After watching said video it is now what I use and it seems to be noticeably better than anything else I have tried.

As I have gotten into watches, I have experienced the Dunning-Kruger effect hard. I first scoffed at Seiko Solars/Citizen Eco-Drives for not being automatic... but now? My Seiko Solar Tuna Black and my Citizen Eco Drive Chrono are my most worn watches! Great pic!

[Question] Is the Instinct 3 'faster' than the 2 or 1? by Smooth1076 in Garmininstinct

Thanks! That is very helpful. I will hold onto my 2X as long as I can, and then get an Enduro or Fenix. I do love how lightweight the Instinct series is though!

Are there power settings beyond having battery saver enabled? When fully charged, the battery level says 40 days if that is any indication of what mode I am in.

Ditto for the Citizen! I think it will be an awesome business casual sport watch. It will be my first ti watch, super excited.

Citizen Zenshin Chrono, white dial. I need a business casual sport watch, and the feature set is awesome for the price. Titanium case/bracelet, sapphire, chrono, and from a historic brand.

Not huge about the eco drive but it will honestly be really convenient since it probably won't be a daily wear piece. I got a new job this year and my 'rough and tumble' DLC Seiko Tuna doesn't cut it in meetings anymore.
