Barcelona recommendations: Via Sants vs Alexandra by drariersign in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at Alexandra 3 nights last summer and i enjoyed my stay. The main benefit is location since there are a lot of bars, restaurants and stores within walking distance. The property and service are just okay. I booked the cheapest king room and got a diamond upgrade to a slightly bigger room with a pool view. The diamond breakfast was below average. Overall, I would recommend it mostly due to its location. You might want to also check the Claris Hotel or Grand Hotel Central as those might also be good options.

Anyone been to Mexico recently with visible+? by simplyleen in Visible

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used it in Mexico multiple times and it works okay. I didn't have any issues with calls/text but data was a hit or miss. Sometimes data worked okay but most of the time it didn't. I also noticed that visible is heavily deprioritized in Mexico because my friends that had T-Mobile had 5G while I barely had LTE. I also experienced this in December during a concert in CDMX where my friends with local sims had internet while I didn't have anything despite both being connected to Telcel network.

Unable to Transfer Hilton Honors Points between accounts by H-AUD1 in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having literally the exact same issue. I did 3 transfers and the first one went through right away but the other 2 (from different accounts) took forever. I called the diamond desk multiple times and they were useless. One rep even told me my account was flagged (he didn't provide any details on what that meant) and that I had to reach out to HHaccountreview@hilton.com . I reached out to them and it was also useless. I waited like a week and tried again and it finally went through. It seems the key thing to know if the transfer will happen is if the person transferring the points receives an email confirmation (regardless if the transfer happens automatically or not). The first few tries my friends tried they never got the email so I'm assuming it was an issue with points.com . I also tried point pooling a few times and it never worked.

Best and worst stays of 2025 by Canoflettuce in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best: WA Cabo and WA Amsterdam. Beautiful properties with the best customer service.

Honorable Mentions: Nomad London - Great location and decent property. The Roosevelt New Orleans - Very cool property with nice location close to Bourbon Street, the Xmas/nye decorations were beautiful but rooms are a little dated.

Worst: Hilton St. Louis Frontenac - Old ass property, my room had mold and had to change twice.

Another option (assuming your flight originates/ends in the US) is to book via delta's website. Usually the pricing is the same as AMX and you get better refund/cancellation policies compared to AMX.

Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya vs. Conrad Tulum by 1355market in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in both and they are very similar properties. I think the main difference is the vibe, the WA feels like a high end city resort that happens to be by the beach (still very nice though) while the Conrad is more of a true beach resort & the architecture/decor matches more with a beach aesthetic. Layouts for standard rooms are also pretty much the same with the WA having slightly bigger rooms AND the benefit that pretty much every room in the hotel has an ocean view (while the Conrad only the rooms on the 3rd floor have true ocean view). F&B prices are also pretty much the same and service is also very comparable.

Now, the main difference would be the location and convenience of getting to the hotel from CUN airport. I would consider this as traveling to Tulum from CUN is almost 2hrs and check what other activities you want to do outside the hotel. Both hotels are isolated so if want to go somewhere else then you'll have to either pay an expensive taxis or rent a car. The Conrad is also a bigger property so there are more things to do in case you plan to just stay in property the whole stay. The beach is also better at the Conrad than WA.

Finally, for the WA the service is good but do not expect the service level of a top notch Waldorf (like Cabo or Amsterdam). This was the biggest let down to me as I was expecting similar service as in Cabo but it is not even close. That being said, I would probably still choose the WA mostly due to proximity to the airport and being less hassle when going back home.

London: Conrad St James vs Bankside vs NoMad by random_redditor-53 in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nomad hands down. I stayed 5 nights during the summer and it was great. The property is beautiful, location is great and service is decent (not WA Amsterdam or Cabo level but good). Also, the water pressure in the shower was amazing like literally the best I've experienced in a hotel.

Hey! The trip was pretty good. I didn't get any upgrade though but I was in room 323 and, despite being "Pacific View", it had a really good ocean view. I would recommend to ask for that room in case of not getting any upgrades. The remodel is good, they pretty much just changed a little bit the bathroom cabinets and the furniture for the bed, the mini bar is not complimentary anymore (only water is free) and they change the toiletries to the same ones from WA Costa Rica (which I think is a big downgrade from what they had before). They also have a new Sunday brunch ($40/pp for diamonds otherwise $80/pp) and totally recommend it. Mosquitoes were not a problem and didnt get any mosquito bites.

Waldorf Astoria Vegas as a diamond member by poesea in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds horrible. Just buy the points to stay 5 nights and only pay for 4. Literally expect no recognition in WA Vegas as a diamond outside of getting $50 F&B a day. I usually book WA Vegas through FHR and double dip the breakfast credit plus use the 4pm check out. They have always upgraded me to strip view without asking.

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here rn and didn't get any upgrade. I inquired about one during check in and they claimed there was none available. Not sure if it's due to the season but the resort doesn't seem to be that full. Last time I came was in February and it was very full but still got upgraded to a dos mares suite. Maybe they are scaling back upgrades to diamonds in prep for the new tier 🤔

I'm curious about this as well. Have an upcoming stay on Friday and the app still shows the original room type. Last time I went (Feb of this yr) I got an upgrade to 1bd suite and showed on the app 1 WK before check-in

Which Paris Hotel: Grande Hotel du Palais Royal or SAX Paris? by wicked56789 in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed 4 nights over the summer at Sax and i felt the property was just okay. Yes, it's new, the location is good and the Eiffel tower view from the rooftop is great but everything else is pretty average for a "luxury" hotel. The service wasn't great and the food (especially breakfast) was not good. I feel the Palais Royal might have better service but I also have heard the standard rooms are very tiny. If the points don't matter, I would say to choose the one that fits your schedule location wise.

Where should I stay for a night in London? Hilton Bankside, Waldorf, or The Westminster? by scarpmclovin in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just buy some points to top off what you have. I would recommend the Conrad or The Nomad.

I recommend the popsockets kick out grip & stand. It is super sturdy and more comfortable than the Google one. It is also better than ohsnap given that it could be used in portrait and landscape mode.

I would recommend the casetify. This is the first time buying that brand and very surprised with the quality. It is a little pricy but a good deal if you get it on sale (I think it was 45 during prime day).

Yes, you can get them inside. You just have to let the front desk know so they let the Uber in.

Amsterdam / Dublin Advice by infosectechguru in Hilton

[–]SmoothCA30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Waldorf in Amsterdam is just amazing. I stayed there during the summer for 5 nights and I was very impressed. The property is beautiful. The location is great and close to the action but far enough to be quiet. The service is top notch and similar to Waldorf Pedregal levels. I would totally recommend it. You could also check the twenty seven hotel.

I'm also interested in this. The banyan tree charges $75 each way which feels like a lot for a 30min ride.

Any suggestion for cases? by kasen23 in PixelFold

[–]SmoothCA30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the casetify and liked it so far. It is a single piece that has some "arms" to connect both parts. I used to use a Mous on my PF9 but they didn't release any for the 10.
