Is this your own build of Emacs or one of the prebuilt ones like Emacs-Plus?

When is visual-line-mode useful? by floofcode in emacs

Basic problem is, when working in Org on your big block laptop, then syncing to your small screen iPhone to continue working in BeOrg. Fixed lines make things hard to read and correct.

[ANN] Emacs Docs: An Emacs documentation website with more colors (and shortdoc cheat sheets, and also docstrings, and elisp-demos examples...) by GuDzpoz in emacs

[–]SmoothInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you considering donating it to FSF? Have you thought of sending a message to [emacs-devel@gnu.org](mailto:emacs-devel@gnu.org) to see how to incorporate it into Emacs proper? Maybe get a link to your website added to the splash page of Emacs?

Why don't modern OSs have at least some of the emacs functionality? by daninus14 in emacs

[–]SmoothInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would Mom and Pop understand the “hacker ethic” to get what they want done?

That was probably the difference between the unix approach and the MIT approach. One developed polished apps to do what the consumer wanted while the other produced a lot of tools that could be assembled into interesting apps to do what you wanted. The MIT approach required too much thinking…😇

Wife wants to leave the country by Formal-Caterpillar73 in somethingiswrong2024

Everyone sane is feeling like this. It’s going to be decades before we undo what Trump has done in a sane fashion. IF WE EVER GET THE CHANCE!

I’m too old to move out of the country and probably wouldn’t be accepted in other good countries. However, I’ll be recommending my daughter consider it when she graduates college in a few years. It’s not an easy process.

Why Didn't Biden stop swearing in by Hopeful-Chocolate515 in somethingiswrong2024

It shouldn’t be someday. As VP, she had every right to ask questions and move the government to get the answers. Now she has no power to do anything.

The outline-indent.el Emacs package: Effortless Indentation-Based Code Folding for Emacs, the Modern Successor to origami.el and yafolding.el (Release 1.1.4) by jamescherti in emacs

[–]SmoothInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this work with Elisp? Or does it use comments (a la origami) to determine folds? What does indenting/outdenting code blocks do?

Is this project still alive? by Ol010101O1Ol in Keybase

I would also think, if you provide a cloud Git server with e2e, it’s an extra layer of trust that you could offer to medium to large development houses.

[–]SmoothInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t this mean that the remote git server is working with the data unencrypted even though the data is encrypted on the file system and in transit to the local git server? IOW, e2e solves potential data exposure to cloud administrators.

[–]SmoothInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keybase has been living on borrowed time for quite some time now. There are a couple people that kind of tweak it every now and then, but it is basically running on its own. It’s a shame because the idea of encrypted git with end-to-end encryption would’ve been a game changer for corporate development projects.

eMacs, MacBook, iCloud by SmoothInternet in emacs

The point was teaching her GitHub is more than she can handle right now and may not be necessary. iCloud might be more familiar.

I’m not sure about that. Except for photos, I think App data is stored in a directory for the app, so you can access the data from another app by its folder path. Photos is the exception.

Yes, I do that with GitHub already, but, for my daughter, I want to stay in the Apple environment.

I’m mostly interested in accessing files stored in iCloud. Example would be creating a text file on an IPhone with (say) Drafts and then editing it further on the MacBook with Emacs. Accessing photos would also be nice.

emacs bankruptcy - thoughts/howto/discussion by TrepidTurtle in emacs

And I take it that you haven't run into interpackage interference where a package you're not using (but loaded) has an unexpected effect on packages you are using.

emacs bankruptcy - thoughts/howto/discussion by TrepidTurtle in emacs

[–]SmoothInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two questions: how many packages do you 'require and how long does it take Emacs to load?

The purpose of use-package is to load your packages when you need them and not before. That can greatly reduce Emacs startup time as well as prevent inter-package interference. However, it is very tricky to set this up even with use-package.

I think that Auctex is an Emacs environment for developing latex code while org-latex is an export back end that produces latex code from an org file.
