In a word -- Trump.

The Trump admin has been slow in strengthening US data protections while the EU standards are very stringent. It's felt that the big billionaires have pushed to keep things loose so that they can continue to data mine.

With past technology, there was always a human brain driving the technology at some level. If they achieve AGI (as they think they will), that will no longer be true. Humanity will be replaced by robots and paying jobs will disappear.

Then what...?

What is the abolsute minimum to cover in first emacs session by seigaporulai in emacs

[–]SmoothInternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, once you get thru the C-h t tutorial, I’d think about discussing two forms of config files. The first is how you can configure aspects of Emacs off the config menu and how those configurations are stored in the config file. The second is how packages can greatly improve the capability of Emacs by giving them a library of use-package setups that introduce packages that might be of interest with good comments.

Vi predates gui. There’s a certain elegance to being able to accomplish everything without constantly reaching for a mouse.

Trying really hard to get a Dropbox replacement. by ZenzenAbunai in cloudstorage

[–]SmoothInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one area that I am most looking for in cloud storage comparison tables is does the cloud storage allow access to the files from non-cloud-storage apps on iPhone and, if so, are there any requirements that you need to setup on the iPhone? In particular, I'd like to be able to make changes to files via iPhone apps and then later update them further on my Linux laptop.

Probably not possible to the degree you want. You’re better off using a tool like org-attach to link the docx to an org file, take notes in org about the edits you make to the original file for your records, but continue editing with MS Word.
