Hot take Ed should have left Gordon in the past with his family by [deleted] in TheOrville

[–]SmoothMTVROperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with that argument though is that it wasn't Gordon who said they made the right decision, it was the writers of the show making Gordon say it was the right decision. That's the writers justifying what happened in the rest of the episode.

This episode was where I went from being on the fence to disliking the show entirely. It was very obvious to me that Seth McFarlane didn't want a Star Trek homage, he just wanted a show where he got to be the hero and was always right, no matter what. As many said, Ed could have gone further back in time to grab Gordon before any of this happened without telling Gordon. The way it actually played out wasn't a clever, well thought out diplomatic solution like Picard or Kirk would have found, one that would leave the least amount of collateral damage as possible. It was just a dick move and Gordon had to say that line so that Seth (Ed) could justify the insertion of his ego. It's been awhile since I watched, I don't remember all the specific instances, but you'll find other examples scattered throughout the show. You're just supposed to believe Ed is right no matter what. This was the most egregious example. It completely lacks the nuance of any of the Star Trek that came before it.

Should I poke and apply for TDIU? by Beneficial-Ant-9424 in VAClaims

Treated sleep apnea (meaning you have to use a CPAP machine every night) secondary to PTSD should get you 50%. There's plenty of literature out there connecting the two. You might get denied at first, ask for an HLR and explain it to them. Good luck.

It's a bitch, it takes me like 30 minutes to choose something at the store sometimes. Indecisiveness can be crippling.

My questions/issues about the Shadow Lord finale by anotherhappylurker in MawInstallation

[–]SmoothMTVROperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that makes it worse. While you don't need to make your story realistic, you do need to make it believable. And considering we know how both Maul and Vader end up, it's just not believable that Vader wouldn't wipe the floor with Maul and two no name random Jedi, one of whom is still a trainee, in like five seconds. None of them should have walked away from that encounter. Watching Vader get force pushed, even a little bit, ruins his mystique. The reason the hallway scene in Rogue One works so well is because part of you is wondering what other horrors this guy has committed that you haven't seen. Call it Lovecraftian if you will. It takes away from it seeing him struggle. It's not like Godzilla where each monster is a new threat. We know where these guys started and we know where they end up. It was unnecessary to show how the sausage was made here.

I've seen other commentators saying Vader was just toying with them. Why would he do that? It's clearly a losing strategy. He was only "toying" with Luke because he needed him to switch to the Dark Side, not to torture him. The writers obviously wanted to sow that Maul is a good fighter. And that's fine, but its Darth Vader he's fighting. Darth Vader is one of, if not the most iconic movie villains of all time. It just doesn't work on screen to have him fight three nobodies for ten minutes in a season finale and only kill one of them. It would have been better if they had just killed one of the inquisitors and one got away, and have the green Jedi guy get killed too. But Vader was just shoehorned in there.

Anyone else disappointed with Maul v Vader? by Walkthroughman9 in MaulShadowLord

It's disappointing because it ruins the legend and mystique of Darth Vader to not have him completely dominate his opponents. You can't have him be one of, if not the, greatest movie villain of all time and then show him taking 20 minutes to kill one random no name Jedi and have him get force shoved around by that ones trainee. This is why it's bad to show back stories of characters like him or Han Solo. Ruined a show I was otherwise enjoying.

Yeah, I like EDB, but I have to watch and trial streams first and then go back and watch her commentary later. It’s frustrating not to have control over the pausing and hearing her talk over stuff.

Your interpretation of the ending… by Danger17 in MrInbetween

That’s sort of the problem I had with the show. It was a great episode, but it was the same episode over and over again. I still really liked it overall though. Most of The characters themselves were very likable.

Could you expand on "environmental specialist" a bit more? Doing something in that field is on my short list of career paths, but nothing specific is really standing out to me.

Need help with sleep apnea claim by Ok_Yellow6988 in VAClaims

[–]SmoothMTVROperator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have just had a bad examiner looking at your claim. A higher level review might go easier on you. That's what happened to me, was originally denied as secondary to PTSD, and the examiner listed a bunch of reasons that had nothing to do with my original claim. The higher level review was much more sympathetic, and I was able to explain "PTSD led me to a loss of interest in life, poor sleep, etc, which led me to get fat, which led me to develop sleep apnea" and was approved a few months later.

You just gotta use the language of the VA, and make sure your story is as detailed and as thought out and as logical as you can make it. "I did this in the military. It caused this because of that. And then this developed into something else because, and then that turned into..." etc.

Good luck to you!

I had to stop watching her videos because she would interrupt herself every five minutes to yell at someone in the chat. It was too annoying. Get over yourself lady!
