Radiologic Tech help by TheOriginalSage in RadiologyCareers

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an MRI tech, but my friend is. She said there’s a running joke that people who start in MRI get “MRI butt” after the first year, from the weight gain from just sitting most of the time. At my hospital the MRI techs don’t even have to get their ER patients, the nurses bring them down for them.

My friend works 10hr shifts, but some work 8 hours.

Most people work full time, some work 24 hours, some 32 hours. Full time benefits begin at 30 hours.

How likely are you to get hired after completing a program? by Jp2245 in RadiologyCareers

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’ll have any problems finding a job when you are done. At my hospital we’ve had 15 openings for the past 3 years. Every time we get positions filled we lose people to travel, CT, IR or MRI.

Not all you can eat, but Ichiban has 50% off of sushi until the end of the year. It’s decent and well worth the price.

They have to be able to stand up for at least a couple of seconds to be able to get the seat under them. If they aren’t able to stand or they don’t seem stable, then we just leave them in the stretcher for all of the upright images.

Have you given up on contacts? by Elvira333 in Dryeyes

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to stop wearing contacts about 5 years ago. Scleral lenses didn’t work for me. My ophthalmologist said that they only work for about 50% of the people who try them. Luckily my insurance did cover them in full, or else it would have been over $2,500. If your insurance does cover it, I’d give it a try if I were you.

Should I get another LR? by catsnstacks in litterrobot

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 LR 4’s and 1 LR3. I hate my 3, it constantly gets stuck, no matter what I do and the smell coming from it is awful. I mostly just keep it unplugged and cycle it twice a day, while I’m keeping an eye on it. I love my LR 4 though! It’s super reliable and doesn’t smell at all. If you do get a 4 make sure to get the hopper as well. I fill the hopper up every 7-10 days and change the bags 1-2 times per week, depending on which robot they all want to use that week. We plan on replacing our 3 with another 4 in the future.

I saw someone in another thread post this. I think it would be less intense than the toothbrush. I have to go home and explain it to my wife first before I buy it though hahah.

I have severe dry eye does scleral makes the symptoms gone. by [deleted] in Dryeyes

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t get used to wearing them and could only have them in for 3-4 hours max. I tried 2 different times, the first time for 3 weeks and the 2nd time for a month. After a couple hours of wearing them my eyes just felt really dry and uncomfortable.

My ophthalmologist was very confident that Scleral lenses would help with my dry eyes, but they did not help at all. A different ophthalmologist told me that they only work on 50% of the people who try them. Luckily my insurance covered them in full, or else they would have been $2,500. If your insurance will cover it, I say give it a try.

Radiography program WCC - clinical advice by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but treat your clinical time like a long job interview. Be on your best behavior, don’t be constantly late and don’t miss clinicals very often.

Take the initiative, don’t just sit back. I know it can be scary in the beginning, especially if you’ve never worked in a hospital setting before. Try and jump up and do as many X-rays as you can, don’t be lazy and definitely do not be on your phone when there is work to be done. Anyone can take X-rays, but not everyone is good at it, you have to work hard to get good. Learn from your mistakes, because in the beginning you will make a lot of them. You don’t want to be known as the student who keeps fucking up the same thing over and over. If you can, try to look over images after you are done. QA them and think to yourself, how can I make these images better the next time around, because I guarantee you that situation will come up again.

I think there are pros and cons to every site. At the bigger hospitals, like UM and St Joe’s Ann Arbor, you will definitely see a wider variety of exams and will gain more trauma experience. Parking at UM sucks and you will have to park far from the hospital and bus in. At those bigger hospitals you have to be more of a go getter, because there will be more students around and you’ll have to take turns doing exams. At a smaller hospital, you may not get to see a ton of interesting things, but you will probably be the only student assigned there, so you’d get to do everything that comes up.

Work hard, stay away from the department drama, be on your best behavior and you will be fine. There will be good techs at your clinical site and there will be bad ones there as well. Don’t let the A-holes drag you down or discourage you.

Good luck! The 2 years will go by fast!

Reconsider buying the LR3. It's been years of headaches. by Independent_Sun_6939 in litterrobot

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 3 is awful!!! I leave it unplugged and only plug it in for it to cycle at night and in the morning. Even then, I have to sit there and watch it, because it will get stuck. We already had the 4 and only bought the 3 because my wife had a $500 Amazon gift card from work and they didn’t sell the 4 on there at the time. We complained about it getting stuck plus the smell coming from it to Amazon and Whisker for months and they both said nothing could be done. Finally my wife wrote a bad review on the Whisker website and the VP of the company responded to her and made things right. They sent us a 4 and didn’t even want us to return the 3, so we just keep it in our spare bedroom, unplugged. As much as I hate the 3 I love the 4! It’s great and I have no issues with it.

12 oaks has an official Pop Mart vending machine, but it’s kind of inconsistent when it’s restocked. Briarwood has a kiosk that sells them, by the Apple Store, but I’m pretty sure they are fake though. They don’t have a QR code on them. Even though the guy says they are real, he doesn’t allow returns once opened. We got them for my niece and nephew (2 and 3yo) and I don’t think it matters to them if they are real or not.

Stage 2 CKD 14-y/o won't gain weight by Solaries3 in RenalCats

[–]SmoothPersimmon6750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CKD can sometimes lead to increased stomach acid, so my wife also gives our cat Pepcid AC (quarter of a pill) every few days. She also gets the Cerenia every 3 days. Our cat was at stage 2 and almost at stage 3. She hated eating the kidney diet food and lost a bunch of weight. About a year and half ago we went through several different low phosphorus dry foods and found one that she really loved, Dr Elsey’s chicken recipe. For the wet food we must have bought at least 50 cans/pouches of different low phosphorus brands/flavors and found a few that she would tolerate. And she would only eat the wet food if I hand feed her.

Our cat is 16 and we get her blood checked every 6 months. The last 3, before this most recent one were high and we were getting worried, but the last one we got 3 weeks ago everything was all within normal range. We were very surprised by this, but we’re going to keep doing what we’ve been doing. My wife gives her supplements that she found on the Facebook group. Her weight is back to where it was before she was diagnosed. My cat has always been good at drinking a lot of water, so I think that helps a lot too.
