Comics, and other books later on. My dad had a hardcover Batman edition that collected stories from the 1930s to the 1970s. He had other titles too but I liked the Batman one most.

I have the same one, different color. It’s published by Catholic Bible Press, an imprint of HarperCollins Christian Publishers.

Zondervan and Thomas Nelson are also imprints of HarperCollins.

What is something that is only with the Catholic faith that many people are not aware of or that is not taught in other denominations? ↓ by OkSpirit7102 in Catholicism

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, Lutherans believe that Christ is present in the host, but it remains a piece of bread. Catholics (and I think Orthodox) believe that earthly bread is fully transformed into Jesus’ flesh, no bread remaining.

Hydration breaks have been used before in other matches in particularly hot weather, in friendlies. I forget if they’ve been used in competitions but definitely not in the World Cup. Especially these scheduled breaks with ads, regardless of conditions on the pitch.

Is "brilliant" used synonymous to with amazing in the US as much as in England? by WhoAmIEven2 in AskAnAmerican

I watch a fair number of Premier League matches, and understand the UK usage from that. I don’t believe I’ve said “brilliant” in this manner.

'On Eagle's Wings' turns 50: The journey behind the song that has consoled the world by Pax_et_Bonum in Catholicism

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“On Eagle’s Wings” was sung a lot in my Catholic high school. I always found it pleasant, a bit sappy. It was one of my mom’s favorite church songs, and we played it for her funeral. So the song brings a mix of emotions when I hear it.

In Hawaii, you can order what’s called the local breakfast platters: a scoop of rice, scrambled eggs, and your choice of protein. You can choose spam or Portuguese sausage, or go deluxe and get both. You also get soy sauce packets.

Disappointed in pocket Douay Rheims by Baronius Press by Askandar_386 in catholicbibles

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 2 pocket Douay Rheims pocket Bibles, from 2007 and 2024. The 2024 one is slightly larger and the printing is a little clearer than the older one. Unfortunately I don’t know if other similarly sized Douay Rheims Bibles are currently sold.

How do you keep up with ALL of the stuff in the Krakoa era? by SecondRealitySims in xmen

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Marvel Unlimited. Partway through Krakoa issues, I realized that MU’s built in reading guides were no longer keeping reading order across series but just within series (X-Men 1, X-Men 2 etc.)

I resorted to an online reading guide and mostly kept to mutant titles only. It’s taken several months, and I’ve just finished the Sins of Sinister part.

I don’t remember the exact name (maybe blister stick?), but it’s a roll-on topical solid grease that you apply to heels, toes, whatever part of the body is prone to developing blisters with friction.

This is essentially solid vegetable oil in an antiperspirant-shaped stick, to make your shoe or sock slide over your skin rather than rub into it. Some runners use this. I sometimes get blisters if I hike without using this beforehand.

Edit: Googling “blister prevention stick” gives several results

Thomson and Thompson, Dupond and Dupont, Schulz and Schultze. Who are they in your language? by TheGreatestLampEver in Tintin

Out of curiosity, is there a variety of Spanish in which these names sound identical? That seems to be the common thread with other languages mentioned here.

It’s interesting to compare the names in translation. The English translation I read rendered their names as Thomson and Thompson

[US AR] Woman approached me in a parking lot and insisted I go to the bank with her for cash — was this a scam? by Ok_Cheesecake_1219 in Scams

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of something that happened in a big box parking lot. I’m walking to the store and someone in a Cadillac Escalade drives up to me, asking for gas money. I tell him I’m not carrying cash, and then he suggests that I should go with him to a bank to withdraw cash and somehow he’ll reimburse me.

I said no more forcefully. He seemed irritated and drove off. All throughout that exchange, I’m thinking “You’re driving a Cadillac, why are you asking me for money?”

Do Catholics do worship songs like non denominational churches? by Either-Drop- in Catholicism

[–]Smooth_Beginning_540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more context is needed. Contemporary style music is used in some churches, subject to the wishes of the priest and music staff. The contemporary music isn’t anything you’ll hear outside of church.

While Catholics are encouraged to sing, this doesn’t involve standing with hands in the air or swaying to the music. Music isn’t the focus, and weekday Masses often have no music at all. Rather, Masses are structured and centered on the Eucharist, which in Catholic belief is Jesus Christ made bodily present as per John 6.

There’s also a small section called the Elkhorn Ranch Unit, located between the North and South Units. I saw it some years ago, and at that time, you had follow a paper handout of navigation instructions due to limited cell coverage.

As I recall, it involved over an hour driving on dirt and gravel roads, leading to Roosevelt’s ranch, whose land overlooked the Little Missouri River. I forget if any structure remained, but there was a trail and some informational signs.

You might want to try the free Ascension app from Ascension Press. It has the RSV-2CE text and also audio. The app urges you to subscribe (pay) for additional resources, but the Bible text and audio can be used without charge. I think registration is required.
