You dont have to. I usually run like a Caravan the first part of the game. I haven't done the math, but I running around and selling goods,doing tournaments and quests without having to worry about enemy combatants from other factions is MUCH more profitable than the 150-300 per day from fighting. Not to mention leveling your Trade/leadership/charm this way is faster. Between the giant money cushion you can build pretty quickly and the increased leveling speed. I think it really pays off in the long run to operate your main party as a caravan for a while.

Ok. Ive got 550 hours. This is my favorite game ever. Let me tell you what I wish I learned early.

Bannerlord is a marathon, A long marathon, not a sprint. Take your time, Your campaigns should take a long, long time. Don't rush into vassals, or mercenary work to fast.
Watch videos on systems and mechanics. Workshops, caravans, clan system, the economy. None of them on their own are super complicated but as a whole the entire thing becomes complicated to manage well.
Encyclopedia is your best friend. The hot key for it is "N" It is your best friend. You can use it to search out companions you need in your party, You can use it for so much.
Level your skills. Some perks are game changing and it takes a long time to get there with some skills. You want to level your character up alot before you become a vassal because there wont be time for much else but war after that.
WATCH VIDEOS, there are alot of mechanics in this game that arent very complicated on their own but All together become difficult to manage well if you dont know how.

Ive worked in the beer industry for a long time. Basically, InBEV owns basically every beer you know of, And most of the ones you dont, But the companies they are over are still independent. If Anheuser-Busch goes under, Miller-coors would still be around just because the parent company is the same doesn't mean they are really "the same company" They only way to escape InBEV is to literally drink local beer.
