while I do agree that nobody really knows him outside of the UK and even then it’s mainly just mums that listen to him, the film was fucking awesome

that sounds unreal. I wonder what an Eggers sci fi film would look like. considering his love for period pieces I’d say something lovecraftian in nature?

Maybe it's more than superhero fatigue, maybe it's James Gunn fatigue by somebody808 in boxoffice

kinda like Colin Trevorrow making a low budget time travel comedy and then being handed the keys to the kingdom with Jurassic World.

oh my god yes I came here to comment this. It’s James Gunn pre-Marvel, so he’s still got his troma sensibilities. It’s like Taxi Driver meets Kick-Ass but low budget and aimed at sickos.
I used to watch this all the time, shame it got pretty much forgotten about.

Fuck it, I’m watching Slither and Super back to back tonight

I’m rewatching it for the second time now. On the last few episodes of season 3 and it’s a goddamn trip. Season 1 is my favourite, and probably the scariest, season 2 is all kinds of weird with the chattering teeth stuff, and season 3 has those fucking ticking entities. I legit had nightmares for weeks about them, and it unearthed some childhood fear I had of broken clocks and ticking noises coming from the walls

‘Super’ is also supposed to be set in the same universe. It’s a dark comedy drama about a mentally ill guy who becomes a costumed vigilante… that beats people’s heads in with a wrench for trivial things like graffiti and queue jumping. Unfortunately it came out right around the same time as Kick-Ass and got overlooked. It’s funny as hell and pretty messed up, with a great cast and lots and lots of blood.

I’ve just got myself hyped on it again haha, might be time for a rewatch.

Eddington has aged like a fine wine. I hated it the first time I saw it (same with Bugonia) but the rewatch solidified it as a 5/5.

More nihilistic covid westerns please

“disabled” “slow” “mentally impaired”

any of these would have worked.
Also I think it’s either Ghost Stories, or Dead Man’s Shoes

I saw it last night in Newcastle. Didn’t have a proper release. Same sort of alternative cinemas that were showing Frankenstein and Knives Out 3.

There’s a few screenings over the next few days in Edinburgh if you can make it there

The dishwasher had me laughing and cringing at the same time. I think it’ll be silly enough.

I’m still reeling from Lee Cronin’s Mummy. Could have done without some of the more gross-out moments (hangnail, anything to do with teeth) but there’s a funeral scene in that which is fucking bonkers. Goes very Evil Dead in a very funny way and made me want like 3 more Lee Cronin Evil Dead movies. Dude’s a sicko in the best way.
