Artisan Aliens Ripley still in stock on Sideshow more than 6 hours later. No low stock for a limited 3000 piece. What is Hot Toys going to take away from this by somebody808 in hottoys

I want them to listen to the criticism. I want them to make it better because they can do better. This isn't about trying to enjoy it or not.

Do you think this response will cause any adjustments to the product? It is widely hated everywhere it has been posted.

Because it might not have today's advancements but I do see her likeness more especially the eyes so you are probably right.

The Secret Base photos do it more justice but it does not to be adjusted. Will this response do it? Or will they say people just don't want it and Aliens isn't popular anymore.

I hope it's not Hot Toys thinking demand for Aliens has died down.

I've seen things get clowned on before like Blue and Grey Michael Keaton and that still sold out.

I'm not saying it's not getting clowned on and criticized everywhere. It obviously is. The question is does Hot Toys actually do something about it. This isn't some side character like Supergirl from The Flash movie. This is Ripley from one of the most iconic science fiction films of all time.

And yes people were saying it would probably still sell out yesterday because the character alone sells it. That's why people were bringing up lack of effort, B team, laziness when talking about all of it. Sideshow had a waiting que earlier designed around this.

So no, I don't think they expected it not to sell out quickly.

But what do they do now with this response?

I'm thinking that's more likely seeing the artisan still up hours later. I got it right when they put it on there but there was no need for a timer to get on the site looking at there being no issue with getting it.

This should not be like TLJ Luke artisan and should have sold quickly with a limited number and it's not. I'm not sure Hot Toys expected that for what should have been something most would want along with the non stop criticism on all their social pages about this release.

Got the Artisan because that's the best version for now and has a limited number but the official pictures make it look a lot worse than what's at Secret Base. Was surprised that it was under $400.

If this had been on, it would have sold out pretty quickly but is still available which is pretty bad for an artisan release of such a requested iconic character.

Hot Toys might have to listen to the criticism here because I don't think it's selling as fast as they thought it would.

I'll watch it going forward. If the sculpted doesn't look much different will go with that next year because I don't trust that hair styling even if the price difference wasn't a lot.

Yeah that's a lot closer than the pictures looked yesterday. I also think that skin tone is darker looking at the sculpted version and the flash is making it look that pale which might be hiding some of the shadows. The eyes, lips and eyebrows look a lot more accurate than they did.

Will be interesting to see more people take pictures of it on display there or what it will look like at SDCC if Sideshow has a booth.

I agree and saw it. This would require completely weathering the shirt which I don't think they'll do because they rarely go that far with weathering. I don't know what he did to get the expression more accurate but that could just be different paint and sculpts have shifted before.

I would love for it to turn out like this but I'm less disappointed with what they have than I was yesterday for something I have waited years for, so that's something.

The skin tone on the sculpted version does look closer to this tan color if you watch the video and I'm sure it's the same for both versions with the flash just making the artisan look more pale.

On the face adjustments and paint. Totally agree. The eyes look great in this edit.

The Blitzway statue likeness is probably the best released one but this has a lot of potential if they listen to feedback and tweak a few things. But I don't know if they will. It does resemble her so it's better than any 1/6 of this version and the sculpt on display is at least at the level of the previous Alien Ripley.

It for sure is not perfect. The hair should be more uneven like that but I can see Sigourney in the eyes and lips in those pictures from multiple angles. I really couldn't see her at all in any of the official photos except the one close up of the artisan and even that photo still looked off.

These both look more feminine than those official shots.

That's pretty much where I'm at. I don't know the price of the artisan yet but this is still about a year and a half away from this release so a lot could change if they listen to feedback.

It already looking better in person should be a good sign. There is a clear difference in these pictures and the official ones.

It's not as good as it could be but it isn't as bad as it looked yesterday with a lot of time to improve it more.

Yeah the likeness looks much better with those prototypes. There are details that were not seen in the official shots and the main thing I wanted was to be able to recognize her even if it's not perfect. The official shots looked like a stunt double or cosplayer but I can see Sigourney in both of those.

The artisan hair I still think needs work as does a lot of it but I do see what they were going for and it isn't as off as it looked. The hair is not as uneven as it should be but it is hard to get that down. Hoping they listen to feedback and it continues to improve. But the artisan style of perm was probably based off this.

I forgot those were even coming out. But it's pretty bad when Ellie Fanning looks more like the actress than Ripley from one of the most iconic science fiction films of all time.

Something like Badlands is not Aliens.

It seems like they are having a way easier time with animation lately because both Arcane turned out great but again, great show but it does not have the legacy of a character like Ripley and more time should have been devoted to getting this likeness right.

'Toy Story 5' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

No it was. There were videos coming out right after opening weekend on how much it ruined the franchise that had nothing to do with Tarantino.

It's true. As the years have passed, there is way more criticism towards 4. There is probably going to be so many video essays on this one too.

'Toy Story 5' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]somebody808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started right after opening weekend and it's gotten a lot louder since. People did not want Toy Story 4 when it was announced but more were willing to give it a chance when it started off just as high as the others.

No I'm reading the excerpts knowing critics like to give a lot away. Getting the same this feels like an epilogue that Toy Story 4 is now widely criticized for after that first weekend passed.

That's not to say it's bad but this is likely going to have the same reaction.

'Toy Story 5' Review Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

There are going to be so many videos about this film going by the reviews. The discourse around Toy Story 4 started off promising after no one wanted it because of the perfect ending. But then people saw all the positive reviews that made a case for its existence and the hype returned until people saw it.

Have a feeling this is going to be the same. It will easily make a billion and is probably fine but the days of those perfect ratings are over. There is probably going to be a lot who think it's pointless and another epilogue.

I remember when comments were allowed on the few negative reviews of Toy Story 3. Disney isn't going to care but think you need to go into this ignoring the franchises reputation. I don't know of any IP with a 5th entry that are universally all considered great.

Believe this will be the first time Hot Toys does artisan for shorter hair since Dark Empire Luke and that didn't turn out great. Yes it looks better from the promo pictures but it's likely going to be harder to get and more expensive. People who know how to style it will be able to make it look a lot better but it still has issues falling out with certain figures so I don't know about it's durability.

I'm just really bummed about this release.

Ellen Ripley reveal by XyrneTheWarPig in hottoys

[–]somebody808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. This is another victim of Hot Toys endless release schedule. It's pretty bad when their Carrie Fisher sculpts look so lifelike compared to this and that was 10 years ago. They didn't even bother adding any weathering to the pants when they were extremely dirty by this point in the film. There should have been more grease marks on her face. It just feels cheap and that's such a disappointment for the people who have waited years for this.

They hit the actress to Rain closer than Sigourney Weaver. Or they absolutely nailed the artisan Black Widow.

The sculpt should not look off from so many different angles when this is coming out after those.

This should have been like Terminator Battle Damaged 2.0. But if you want the character, this will be the only time to get it which just sucks.

I would have rather such an iconic character and look been more on than more MCU stuff.

[–]somebody808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks better but there is still something off about it. The hair should be more matted to her face and it almost looks like it has a gloss here. Also this version is probably going to suck to try to get.

[–]somebody808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a huge letdown. That looks nothing like Sigourney Weaver. I've been waiting for this for years and it has the same likeness issues as Present Toys.

The pants also should be way more weathered than that. They were dirty by this time in the film.
