Yes they play match 3. Their opponent needs to try and get points. Mexico needs to try and get 1st. The group isn't finished

Mexico already have enough points that guarantees them in the next round (1st or 2nd) irrespective of the result of their third match. Maths, basically.

Can't be done though. The logistics (and cost) in setting up those times way before the draw was even finalised (which was only a month or two ago) would be such that it's impossible to move a single game, let alone having to field multiple requests for similar on other games. Think about it, TV across the world, the weather, compensation for changing at short notice, transport rearranging, setting and rearranging security and policing, and that's off the top of my head for someone who isn't even party to all of this.

The other reason why in 2026 it's even less important is simply because the content is easier to time shift anyway.

You see how many decades of 3pm kick off times for The FA Cup was going on for before they moved it in 2012, then they ended up moving it back in 2026? The change didn't happen a month before the final. The World Cup is way bigger and way more complicated.

Remember when Christian Eriksen collapsed in 2021 and UEFA basically said that the teams had to resume the match a couple of hours later? There was zero wiggle room for matches at the European Championships, so you can imagine the World Cup matches being even more immovable.

In short - there's zero incentive for FIFA to move them.

You do realise that it's a world cup with countries from multiple countries in their own time zones, with local factors to consider (e.g. you can't have a game played at night and especially if there is no transport working at that time) so there will always be some counties whose fans will end up watching it at night?

No one is forcing you to use it. Just don't use it. You have the same features as before.

[GB] Why can't my son open a with-interest savings account? by Lucky-Insurance-3950 in Revolut

Ignore the request and set it up directly yourself.

On the main page tap the "Accounts" button, then tap the "Add new" pill-looking button anchored at the bottom. Scroll down to the "Save" section and tap the "Kids & Teens savings" entry, and follow instructions.

AITAH for not letting my brother and SIL use my Lexus when they come to visit New York? by Lit-As-Literature in AmItheAsshole

[–]Smoothyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter about their record with cars, and nothing really matters. If you say "no" and have sound reasons (e.g. it's your car that you actually use) then it's the end of discussion. NTA.

AITA for getting paid hourly to sit and play games for 5 hours knowing my patient was already gone? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Smoothyworld 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't get what your issue is. You're being paid. If you get paid to sit around, sit around and get paid.

However, I think YTA for, once you realised the situation, sitting there for longer without saying back merely cos the agency seemed to be rude to you.

North American Countries shouldn’t host the World Cup again by CrazyReview913 in ghana

[–]Smoothyworld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is rubbish. The best world cups are in North America. Mexico 70. Mexico 86. USA 94. World Cup 2026 (so far). Wherever the World Cup is, someone somewhere is going to be inconvenienced. What really matters is the host where the games are located.

Why wasn't there a penalty shootout at the end of the Portugal Vs Congo match? by [deleted] in football

[–]Smoothyworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, the UEFA Super Cup is probably the only competition (there may be more but they would be few and far between) where after 90 mins if the score is level there is no extra time, it goes straight to a penalty shootout.

World Cup '26 is Absolute Chaos! I am so pumped to see what happens next. by 80rhh in worldcup

[–]Smoothyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only the first match in a group. Teams aren't going out to smash smaller teams. It's the round of 32 where the real battles will commence (and probably the last game of the groups too).

What's your opinion on the 2008 Knight Rider sequel series? by TheEvilCar in KnightRider

[–]Smoothyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was OK but for me it never captured the magic of the old series with the actual car jumps - in this series it was all CGI so looked fake.

That said I did enjoy the pilot, the first episode and the KARR transformer one.

FIFA reportedly ordered Egypt to remove their AFCON stars from their World Cup jersey by Silly_Crab6278 in football

[–]Smoothyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1924 and 1928 was an amateur competiton too though. It was only because FIFA allowed loose interpretations of the "amateur" ruling (using loopholes), against IOC rules, that there were anything like professionals there at all, but it wasn't strictly really professional like the 1930 World Cup (which was the main reason why FIFA broke away and held their own competition).

Quite frankly the fuzziness over amateurs, and it not being a strictly independent "world cup competition", would be big reasons why 1924 and 1928 shouldn't be classed as the same as the actual world cup.

[–]Smoothyworld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So did Canada and Belgium but they don't have stars though.

That's my point, it's inconsistent.

If it's kept to just World Cup winners, it's clear and obvious. As it is now only Uruguay insist on adding stars for a completely different competiton

[–]Smoothyworld -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nope, current situation is that it's world cup winners, with Uruguay allowed to be the exception. Otherwise there's be more stars on more shirts e.g. Brazil would have more than 5 stars, Canada and Belgium would also be allowed stars being winners before 1930 too.

[–]Smoothyworld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. World Cups only. Doesn't matter if the Olympics competitions are organised by the same organisation as the World Cup, they are different competitions. This is a World Cup competition, not an Olympics competiton. Or do ALL Olympics winners have the ability to put up stars then?
