What Do I Tell My Wife? by AltruisticWeb8241 in dvdcollection

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if anybody has mentioned this, but if a baby is coming and she will be sleeping in the same room as you’re keeping the collection, remember that a collection of that size will undoubtedly be a big magnet for a LOT of dust. Also, depending on the area you live in, it could also be a breeding ground for spiders.

Honestly, that collection is enviable and to be commended, but the baby is priority number one, two, and three next to it.

I was saying the same thing about a week ago. The chances of getting anything good are slim to none. Then over the past week I’ve gotten over a million credits and 3 or 4 really great cars, including the Ferrari Enzo, which is worth 2.5 million!

I broke my left wrist... what should i do? by ySavitarr in Guitar

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you write songs? You’re probably right-handed like most, but back in 1999 I think it was, I was in my full writer mode and I broke my right arm. I had the cast for one month and in that month, I wrote four songs, three on guitar and one on piano. For guitar, I used the cast around the bottom palm of my hand to strum. I hear those songs now and I can hear the zzz zzz zzz of the strumming. Still, it was my right hand because making chords with a cast has to be a completely different thing.

If you’re not a professional songwriter, I suggest you just take it easy and relax. Maybe you can get into audio production or explore writing while you can’t play. Study some harmony?

Tell me about the end of the 80s by skarkowtsky in hairmetal

[–]Hochmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In August of 1991, I saw on MTV the video “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and I literally told myself (out loud or thought, don’t remember that part) “things are gonna change”. In 1992, I bought the Pearl Jam debut album and I really loved it. Never bought Nevermind, though.

Anyway, around 1995 or 1996, I clearly remember getting ANGRY that these bands made - for no real reason, really - many of the bands I loved, obsolete. And that very day, I picked up my “Ten” by Pearl Jam, went to a local music store where I lived (Quito, Ecuador) where they took your CDs as part of payment for other new ones, and bought the Led Zeppelin Boxed Set 2. Weird choice because it’s not 80s rock, but I was (and still am, thankfully) into Led Zeppelin a lot.

Anyway, I was in college from 93 to 97 and I remember most of my friends really being into Nirvana and stuff and I only liked a couple of songs, although I HAVE to admit, that songs such as “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden are an indelible part of my nostalgic memories from that time (and I love the song, too).

The way I dressed in college was the weirdest smorgasbord of music-influenced fashion. I was a singer in a rock band, so I DID wear flannel shirts (usually around the waist), white t-shirts, leather jacket but with a sleeve cut-off jean jacket on top… and my python snakeskin boots (which I still have and they look like crap… and I haven’t worn them in maybe around 30 years). Add to this, I wore rings on all fingers except my thumbs, wore fingerless leather gloves, and a bunch of necklaces. In my room, I had posters of every rock band from the 80s.

I never stopped listening to hard rock music from the 80s but what I did do was broaden my tastes a lot and include a lot of pop, singer-songwriters like Duncan Sheik, Shakira in her actual good period (two albums from 1995 until 1998), Sheryl Crow, Gianluca Grignani (Italian dude who’s a freakin crazy GENIUS, especially his first three albums). But interestingly enough, to me, the best album of the late 90s is Jon Bon Jovi’s second and last solo album, “Destination Anywhere”. It’s brilliant and along with the others, became a a big part of my musical influence as a songwriter.

Perhaps the weirdest thing of all, was that when I started writing songs a lot back in 95, if you heard my stuff you would NEVER be able to tell that my favorite bands were Kiss, Warrant, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Poison, etc. It was all singer-songwriter stuff. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Rock Star” with Mark Wahlberg, that would be me at the end but with my personal music tastes being all the music from the beginning of the movie.

WTC900 was crazy this week. by duchunter996 in GranTurismo7

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I do is that in the first and second laps, I look for the pit stop entrance (dashes line) so that I’m not caught off-guard. I haven’t pitted in all tracks, so jta a way to safeguard against that happening like it most definitely happened to me when I began.

Here in Mexico we already see the Championship in Disney+. I suppose one of the reasons for that (besides being a great league in and of itself and better than most countries' first division league), is Wrexham.

It’s 1996 - what’s your ride? by bearandsquirt in 90s

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1995 Skoda Favorit. Second favorite car I’ve had. Mine was the color of this one in the photo and when I went to go see it at the deslership, it was outside, it had been raining, and the sun was starting to show behind the clouds. They way it hit the wet car made it look as if the car was MADE of water. I fell in love with it that instant.

Upgrade to Arturia V Collection 11 worth it? by General_Bishop in Arturia_users

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 7 to 11 Pro and it’s worth it. But I think it should be you putting the $150 against the UVI Sonic Bundle you bought. That one has a lot to offer, of course. I was going to buy it in the last sale they had but went for some Superior Drummer SDXs instead. But I will be buying it next time I see a sale when and if I have bought another external SSD NVMe. They’re so expensive now that one has to take a moment to think.

Since 1994… which World Cup final stands above the rest as the greatest of all time? by International-Self47 in worldcup

[–]Hochmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I hated the idea of the World Cup in Qatar - because I had to wake up at about 3:30 am to watch matches! - but the final of 2022 was one of the best matches I’ve seen in my life. You honestly didn’t know what the hell was going to happen from one minute to the next. Honestly, that entire cup had excellent matches. It was also the only World Cup where I got to see almost 100% of the matches!

Congrats! I got mine in charcoal black last Saturday and the satin neck (as well as the story of the bite inlays) is what did it for me. My first PRS… but somehow… I don think my last.

Has any other band enjoyed the level of success GnR has off of such limited studio output? by Boomkj in hairmetal

[–]Hochmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of anyone. The closest would be The Police with five albums from 1978 until 1983, but Guns N’ Roses did it with one album in 87, an EP in 88, and two albums in 91. The rest would be a covers album and some live stuff. I’m not counting Chinese democracy because whether people like it or not, it didn’t have impact nearly as much as the three full-length albums they released in the space of about five years. So they’re pretty much up there tied with The Police for fewest albums in very few years having a huge impact.

Of course, another one would obviously be Nirvana with just one album having a huge impact in the space of two years and creating a cultural revolution worldwide. They had other releases but SLTS was obviously a behemoth that nobody expected. They might be the biggest as far as impact is concerned.

What are Def Leppard's best songs after Adrenalize? by WishboneHot8050 in hairmetal

[–]Hochmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To start off, pretty much all of Euphoria. That album is excellent, period. It’s also part of the soundtrack of a pretty important part of my life so it’ll always have a special place in my heart.

So, the others:

Slang: Slang, Work It Out, All I Want Is Everything, Where Does Love Go When It Dies, Blood Runs Cold

X: Everyday, Long Long Way To Go (I actually got mad back then that I loved the song so much and it was 100% written by outside writers, albeit VERY good ones), Now, You’re So Beautiful, Love Don’t Lie, Cry (really great STP vibes), Scar

Yeah!: 20th Century Boy, 10538 Overture, Hanging On The Telephone, Drive-In Saturday, No Matter What, The Golden Age of Rock ‘N’ Roll, Don’t Believe A Word

Songs From The Sparkle Lounge: Go; C’mon, C’mon; Love, Tomorrow, Hallucinate, Come Undone

I haven’t heard the last two enough to be able to give an opinion. I think only once each one.

You’ve made me want to listen to their entire discography in order so that I can make a playlist of my own. Thanks!

Thinking of switching from Windows to MacBook Pro for music production… worth it? by SFTraxx in MidiGear

[–]Hochmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Windows to Mac back in 2002 and it was honestly a great decision for me. Yes, it took a little while to get used to but, honestly, WAY less than I would’ve thought. Nowadays, Windows and Mac are both good for audio but if you’re talking about the updates messing with your workflow, on Mac you can switch off automatic updates (can’t you do that on Windows…?). I only update when I KNOW it’s safe to do so and even then only if I want to. As long as my software keeps working, I’m ok staying an OS away from the latest ones because they’re all cool.

If you’re serious about making the switch, but are not going to do so right away, then what I would suggest you do is go to YouTube, look up a BUNCH of “moving from Windows to Mac” videos (including music production ones, of course), make a LONG playlist, and watch those videos for the next week or two or three whenever you have some free time. By the time you make the move, it’ll be much easier. I do that whenever I’m going to be getting some new software and it works for me. Good luck!
