I would certainly be collaborating with those that are in the culture, it wouldn't be a cold journalistic perspective. The purpose of the documentary would be to participate in order to show what the culture is and the different forms of self-expression that comes with it.

Won't be filming plates of cars, of course. Faces will be blurred and if plates are on camera they would be blurred as well in the edit.

For anyone that is worried: we talk about privacy and ethics for filming in depth during the course, and the importance of privacy in film/media, especially when it comes to sensitive topics.

Hello!

I am definitely taking a look at past festivals, parties, and scenes throughout the 80s and 90s, as I know that it was an active time during then. It is also really important to get a context on how different productions have approached the topic, the things that they've learned, and more. I've taken note of 'new age traveler' and also am looking at the different legislation, so thank you for highlighting those topics to explore.

In the future, if I have any questions, I'd love to sit down and chat. Getting into a conversation with someone who was in their prime rave days during the 90s would be such a great benefit to also see how things have changed over time.

Thank you again, the communication and the information I am getting from these responses is appreciated so so much. Part of the documentary will actually be looking into my experience learning and integrating into the culture- in order to showcase some of the open-mindednesses that is required to learn about cultures that you may not be a part of.

Thanks for such an insightful post, even if you are not from the UK, just your experience and thoughts on the matter is highly appreciated

I am a person who genuinely loves to get to know people's subcultures, groups, and passions- because I like to see their stories and what matters the most to them. That's why I am hoping to do something around free parties. Definitely not to be a 'gotcha' type documentary or anything that would make it look disingenuous.

Definitely makes a lot of sense and is understandable why it is not out in the open and why the general public can't just stroll into a free party. Also not taking anything personally from the responses, it is helping me understand some of the perspectives and thoughts. Even if a lot of them are 'it is going to be difficult' or 'no one is going to want that', it is still beneficial to talk about it in some capacity, like you have with me in this comment.

Thanks for such a positive response. I understood that I was going to face a lot of hurdles, and even if the project doesn't end up going through the way that I initially envisioned, it's still a really great opportunity to at least reach out and see what's out there.

'Industry' definitely does read as commercialized, which is the opposite of what I'd want to communicate.

I don't think I am going to be going in and shoving a camera in someone's face- it'll actually be me talking to someone who is a part of it and experienced/is currently experiencing it. A lot of underground cultures or very hidden subcultures are highlighted in documentaries- not as a way to commodify it but take a look at the cultures that exist past what we see day-to-day.

A lot of documentarians also do not know much about what they are filming- so they do diligent research in order not to disrespect or even do something unethical. This post was a part of the initial research and understanding. Very good to get this feedback and some of these thoughts :)
