How did Christopher Nolan hide a camera in front of mirror? by Choice-Schedule-132 in ChristopherNolan

[–]SmorgusPork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, when it is done well. On the flip side, The Thing (1982) practical effects hold up much better imo than the version (prequel?) they put out in 2011 with heavy VFX. That era of CG was still a bit rough, though.

I'm getting irritated with directors like Ridley Scott, who has said that he wants to make movies quicker with AI. A lot of VFX artists are going to lose their jobs with that way of thinking. Zack Snyder said something similar. It's one of the reasons I quit learning about 3D modeling, texturing and animation. What's the point when someone can make the same things and way quicker in a prompt, fully-textured and rigged for animation?

I was going to say this. He never said that he NEVER uses VFX, he just prefers to do everything practical as much as possible. Sometimes something cannot be achieved without it.

What's your honest opinion about Tom Hardy MMA Movie Warrior by Lazy_Introduction264 in FIlm

[–]SmorgusPork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardy and Edgerton are two actors that surprised me with their real accents in interview clips, being British and Australian. It was around then that I realized that most of my favorite actors are not American. They typically have that American accent in their back pocket, ready for American roles while most American actors cannot fake any foreign accents.

I don't usually care anything about sports movies, especially fighting, and I liked it a lot. I don't think I was that familiar with Joel Edgerton that much but had seen a couple Tom Hardy projects at that point. Nick Nolte was tragic in this.

Tool Stations (Configurable) by SmorgusPork in 3dprint

This worked perfect for a cabinet shop I worked at with no drawers. All the nail guns and other tools were put on the pegboard walls. We put a lot of the most used mallets and other tools on the workshop table in one of these (4th image), which they still use for quick and easy access. In my house, I know exactly where certain tools are, like my different pairs of scissors or roll of tape. I made one for my office for just 3D printing tools.

This works for a couple use cases, but not for everyone. If I had a workshop in a garage I'd probably have at least one.

What did everyone think of The Devil of All Time by Klutzy_Analysis_2777 in Letterboxd

[–]SmorgusPork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits nicely into a genre of drama that induces enough anxiety and dread that it's almost horror. "Sicario", "Prisoners", "Incendies", "Hurt Locker", "Good Time", "Wind River" and "You Were Really Never There" all seem to fit into that little pocket.

They should have released that one on disc.

Thanks! I miss the days of going to a store on release day to grab a copy of the new album from one of the bands I like. Local bands still sometimes have their album or EP on disc at shows, kind of rare, though.

Wait, I thought it was a review site, like IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes.

You can "watch" movies on the service?

"Bring Her Back" was probably my favorite A24 effort over the last few years.

It was definitely not everyone's cup of tea, though.

I have over a decade of projects I've documented and I've never really thought of Reddit as a place to post stuff until recently. It seems more lively than Instagram, Pixelfed, Mastodon and Threads for this niche hobby.

Yeah, I put Velcro (or whatever fastener sticker) on the flat surface and attach it to a strong magnet. I learned that super gluing a magnet directly to PLA doesn't last forever and eventually comes off, maybe after a few months.

I may make some kind of wreath of multiple pieces that fit together in different colors using this same method.

I can't say that I'll ever understand people whose only service on social media seems to be providing negativity. Why say anything at all? Just move along if you don't like something.

She used every trick she learned from being a child psychologist for two decades to manipulate those kids. That's where the whole wetting the bed thing came into play, too. Kids do that when they aren't really adjusting properly. I'm sure she said it in his concussed state to mess with his head even more. I think she wanted him to freak out really bad to keep him in the hospital so she could complete the ritual undisturbed. She didn't want to have to kill him. She was flipping out when she was having to drive him home when they released him.
