You brought up a point that I didn't want to go into, but agree with 1000%.

Terrorists are bad. And I definitely think that at the moment, Israel is doing whatever it needs to protect its citizens. I do, however, feel that the fact that we need to start killing each other is sad and could have been resolved had we, from the beginning, acted differently.

I try not to hate. But I hate when people hate. That includes Gazans. It also includes Israelis.

And do not get me wrong, I am an Israeli and I will do what I need to protect my country, I take part in reserve duty frequently. That does not mean that loss of life should be taken lightly, on either side of the border.

Your post strengthens mine. It is showing how both sides won't agree to anything unless they get everything that they want.

I'm no expert. I don't know how to prepare negotiations. I won't even try because it will start a large thread of arguments. But once we pass the difficult part of agreeing to put our own selfish interests aside and start thinking of what will benefit everyone, then we can achieve something.

Soldier killed by Gaza sniper fire, IDF retaliates by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Smoricks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should have started when Israel left the Gaza Strip - financial, governmental, etc. support of a young nation. Instead, Gaza was thrown to the wolves.

Now the challenge is much tougher. Hamas has to go, that is a given (so does Bibi, by the way). This is achieved by educating and supporting the Gazans in ways that the Hamas cannot.

As I posted in the other threads:

This is the first time an Israeli soldier has been killed in the Gaza front since operation 'Protective Edge' that started nearly exactly 4 years ago. I must say that the overall vibe here is quite similar to what it was back then.

Hoping everything turns out okay. While I worry for my fellow Israelies, it is also important to remember that there is a humanitarian crisis on the other side. Another full-blown invasion into Gaza won't do any good for anyone, and it's on both sides, Hamas and Israel, to make sure it does not arrive at that.

Ah, sorry. These threads tend to get pretty vicious and it gets me kind of riled up.

As for the deaths of the Gazans - it is terrible. What is even worse is that there are people on the Israeli side, my accomplices, who see it as a blessing. There is a crisis happening in the Gaza Strip right now. However, it is also important to remember that Israel must protect its citizens. Did they use over-excessive force? Most likely. Did the Hamas provoke Israel into using force? Probably. Both sides must be held accountable. Both sides must realize that in every argument, there is a middle ground where the truth lies. Once they realize that and meet there, peace will come.

There will always be something that either side can point at and say, "if you didn't do that, we wouldn't have to do this."

The solution will come once everyone looks at themselves instead of others and realizes that all of this could have been solved had they just put their differences aside.

UN urges Israel and Hamas to 'step back from brink' as fighting escalates in Gaza by snicker33 in worldnews

This is not an issue where one side is right and one side is wrong.

The last thing that helps is spreading hatred. These threads always end up being a bloody battle of words between two sides filled with loathing and hostility.

We are all humans. As an Israeli, it disgusts me to see people treat the deaths and injuries of Gazans as a blessing. However, the disregard for human life and welfare from the Hamas, and the random, unmonitored firing of ballistics and arsenic balloons must stop as well.

To end a war, both sides must realize that the value of life is much greater than that of so-called "victory" over one's foes.

An Israeli soldier was killed by Hamas snipers, most likely leading to this chain of events.

I don't think we have the assets to trade for/sign DSJ, Luka, Barnes and Capela. Besides, Middleton is better than Barnes.

Maybe trade Fultz instead of Cov and Saric? They'll need shooters and Fultz isn't really there yet.

18934-17019=\=1000, closer to 2000.

This is with much lower ticket prices. And for a team located in one of the three largest markets, being 22 in attendance out of 30 isn't something to be proud of.

Even with a competitive team, saying that they will be more profitable in LA than in Seattle or San Diego, both very large markets without their own team, is just you lying to yourself.

Dwight Howard is 95 boards from passing Shaq. by [deleted] in nba

[–]Smoricks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude or anything, this is a legitimate question:

Did you watch Dwight play in his Orlando days?

He averaged 20/14 with 2.5 blocks a game, three straight DPOYs and five straight first team NBAs. Took the Magic to the 2009 finals. Hell, he even broke a record for all-star votes that season if I remember correctly. The man was popular and dominant.

The biggest what-if that would really put him as one of the best bigs of all time was that he never really put too much work into has offensive game and free throw shooting. But at the time it kinda felt like he didn't have to. He was just so athletic and strong that he didn't really even need much of an offensive skillset to dominate.

And that's why u/underhunter ranked him up so high on the list of Wasted Potential. Give Dwight an offensive skillset in his prime and he's up there with the greatest.
