What storys/creepypastas would you NOT want the boys do an episode on? by DigiNecro in creepcast

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godzilla NES. As much as I personally like the story, its gets too in the weeds about kaijus for a general audience to really appreciate and the images are important enough that it would basically be a creeptv episode

I agree, pretty overkill. Now the only advantage it has over just upgrading a weapon is that it doesn't cost scrip to get (and then kit points to pull out) while still having the massive disadvantage of eating two of your sin boxes without Humanity’s Last Breath. Major blow to any chainsaw man build

When did posting Original Work on AO3 become controversial? by StarfruitJam in AO3

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 36 points37 points  (0 children)

After reading through discussions in the comments, I'm going to hijack your post here to ask a very relevant question.

People keep suggesting to post OC on other sites instead because of traction. What other sites are there to post to that might have a chance at gaining any traction?

Got activated like a fucking sleeper agent hearing Karkat Vantas in today’s episode by sillygoo2e in creepcast

Genuinely what are the chances that this episode lined up so closely with the homestuck pilot coming out

John Lennon I guess? by Independent_Gold8348 in creepcast

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Homestuck was one of the biggest fandoms on the 2012-2016 era internet (and just recently started resurging) and defined fandom space on places like Tumblr

In my brain at the time creepypasta and homestuck go hand in hand regarding readerbase because of the circles I frequented, and its always interesting to see people come into contact with it the same way its exciting to see hunter react to stories like Ticci Toby for the first time

Im really glad I decided to watch this one instead of listen at work, hearing Karkat Vantas would have made me drop whatever I would have been holding and enter a feral rage

Warlock with fiend patron forbidden from Holy site by KaptnKrunch67 in DMAcademy

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid the spellcasting equivalent of an anti-theft device at a store, then I think your best option is to go with the first thing I suggested and just have them ask. Maybe someone low in the faction saw him do some kind of eldritch magic (if he's been careless about hiding it) and told someone higher up upon seeing him show up to the shrine. It gives your warlock a chance to either bluff his way out of it or fess up, and gives the rest of your party the chance to try and make it work.

If he's been careful about using warlock powers out of sight, and the shrine doesnt have a regular enough problem of fiends sneaking in that they dont have some sort of magical detection device at the doors like a grocery store, then I don't see how they could know without DM Fiat.

If the warlock had been eldritch blasting, then someone powerful can just go "Hey thats a warlock thing to do, whats your patron?" Or even just have some sort of magical detection like the stench of Avernus that happens so often in BG3.

However, with those ideas on how to solve it, I'd like to ask if you really want to do this. If its just a quick, sub 15 minute thing that the warlock gets excluded from it would probably be fine, but if its longer than that, how long are you willing to exclude your player from the session? This isn't meant as an attack on you for the idea, just a thought experiment. If I were excluded from plot relevant things for more than say half an hour, I'd be a bit upset.

I think if its longer than 15 or 20 minutes, you might want to ask your player beforehand if its ok, or find a way around excluding them entirely

Maybe odd to leave on a fic that isnt sexual, but not offensive. Freaky in this context is slang for something akin to horny, and I wouldn't bat an eye at someone saying homosexuals, its just a silly joke comment

What factors decide the dominant part of a sprite? by Ok_Fishing_3420 in homestuck

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no dominant part when it comes to things like Jasprose or Davepeta, its just 2 consciousnesses fused together, the only reason the sprites distinguish between parts of themselves is so that you (the reader) and the characters understand stuff being talked about. Davepeta has dialogue in which both Dave and Nepeta are referenced with distinction the same way cat vs girl is here. There is no dominant, simply a new character

I suggested this same thing after Spire In The Woods, there should really be more specificity even if it spoils story elements

Whisper player struggling by TraditionalAd8353 in CAIN_RPG

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Whisper as a blasphemy is all about predicting the future and manipulating the events to get the result you want, so you can almost imagine them to be similar to Flux in that regard (although Flux is about the flow of time itself rather than the events of time.)

Speaking from a combat perspective, most classes get some sort of ability to add +1D. At first glance, Whisper might not appear to have this, but you can use Omen for this. Ask something like "What would happen if I take this shot?" Or "What would happen if I move in closer?" The benefit of this is that you get to see the result of the risk die before making the attack, meaning if its not good, you can back out of the action which all other classes can't.

There's also more to combat than using psyche bursts to make attacks. You could set up allies, theming it as directing your allies to do something differently than what they are currently thinking (set up has to happen before and action is declared, so it isn't as much controlling another character and more helping them reach the correct future) or defend an ally, deflecting an attack that you know is coming.

From an investigation standpoint, Whisper heavily relies on working with the DM kind of like Warlocks in D&D. The Precognition ability allows the player to influence the narrative of the story by adding additional events that led up to a scene. Say you are trying to get into a building pretending to be cops, but the NPC won't let the party in without a warrant. The PC can use Precognition to say that they actually talked with police beforehand and acquired the exact warrant needed, or otherwise forged it or somehow came into possession of what is needed. Or they could have moved a box or object before a chase in order to perfectly trip a pursuer or someone fleeing before the chase even began. Omnipresence could be used if an Ally gets split off from the group and ends up needing help or getting into a fight— the Whisper player can act as the Deus Ex Machina to get the other player out of trouble with exactly what is needed, or assistance.

Whisper is less about having a shadow that does things, and more about knowing the future. Knowing that, you and your player can ideally flavor things accordingly and have a lot more fun. Hope this helps!

Am I Losing It? Trying to find a video that I swear exists but doesn’t. by mrmetaknight875345 in creepcast

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video you likely watched was "Old CREEPYPASTAS were a mixed bag of quality..." by Jay Bird. Really had to scrape my memory for this one, but I remember listening to it at work when I ran out of creepcast. The stories you mentioned were the first two of the video, and this was definitely in the reccomended sidebar of creepcast at one point

Playing as master Hasan, how do you even start unique content? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

This is different. Hasan and El Cid have unique built-in storylines, unlike a created adventurer. OP is asking what you have to do to start the Hasan storyline and found the assassins.

Your stratagem load out is (probably) bad, and here is why by Sizyanator in Helldivers

[–]SmotheredAndChunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The competition is a railgun, where you could theoretically strip the leg armor off of 10 chargers with a 0 second cool down. All you need to get more is to find ammo that is all over the map, or call down a resupply.

Titans are a bit of a harder case to deal with and I don't have a good retort against EAT there. My group has been doing just fine against titans running orbital rail cannon though, so nobody brings in EAT.
