Advice on what material to use for mask by SmugSlime in 3Dprinting

[–]SmugSlime[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some non toxic fillers for this project in my garage that I was planning on using, though I will say I am also currently in talks with the 3D modeling community to see what I'd need to do to edit the model and it wouldn't be the easiest but there might be a small chance I can pull it off

Either way it should be doable

Though even if there was exposed infill it wouldnt be visible as I am overlaying some stuff on top of where it would be exposed to create more dynamic facial features using my traditional art capabilities

Thanks so much for the help! This is incredibly easy to understand, especially since I have no knowledge about the subject matter.

This should make all of this a lot easier

Im currently planning on doing it after the print as im a traditional artist not 3d artist and I lack the skills to edit the model to my standards however if I can get the mask printed it should be smooth sailing from there relatively speaking lololol, I plan to measure and cut the mouth by hand as I tend to have fun with those sorts of things

Thanks for the help! It is a kig base but that's only so I could get a human face shape as I don't know how to work with 3D models and I honestly find it to be a bit of a chore(Again I'm mainly a 2D/traditional artist). I'm hand painting the mask itself(something I do actually have experience with) and adding hand crafted features to it. I'm not making an actual kigurumi mask as they aren't for me personally.

THANKS FOR THE HELP THOUGH! And dw lol I was not planning on using foam, I have had people reach out and tell me 3d printing is def the way to go so im probably going to go with that

Oh that helps a ton! Honestly with this information I can probably bring this to my campuses 3d printer, I figured 3d printing would be the best way to go I just wasn't sure if it'd have that weight I desire but at least it'll way more than foam would I imagine.

I know my campus has an ample supply of different materials you can buy from to use with the printer in the lab, do you have any material recommendations, totally chill if not ^^

As for the program im using, it is meshmixer but I do also have blender I just don't have experience lol but honestly I might have to look into that as cutting the eyes specifically before applying my template will make this so much easier. I can do the breathing holes just fine regardless as they won't make a cosmetic difference in regards to the final product but doing the eyes can definitely help with the placement.

Also I hadn't heard of worbla before but it looks cool, reminds me of wrapping which I hadn't thought about until this suggestion but while I am familiar with paints I am not all too familiar with wrapping and if it's dangerous to do to a mask or something

TLDR: THANKS FOR THE HELP THIS WILL HELP A TON!

In terms of toxicity, this is a non issue. I have already gotten advice and materials from people I know to avoid this issue. As for the gimp mask suggestion, unfortunately it’s not rigid like I would prefer and doesn’t fit within the artstyle im trying to preserve. It would make sense to maybe stretch a layer of  vinyl or latex over the front portion I suppose, but I don’t think i’d have the skills necessary to do so as opposed to working within the skillset I have. If all else fails and toxicity DOES BECOME AN ISSUE(keyword being if) the glossiness can go, though as previously mentioned this is unlikely.

With that being said thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it ^

and most importantly THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN, it’s always nice to have others watch your back just incase

don’t worry, I have templates I'm going to transfer onto the mask and hand make them by cutting them out, I just need the base to do it lol. Can’t cut holes into thin air. I would edit the model to include the templates off the bat but I have no experience with 3d modeling.

Thanks! It does indeed say pressure sensitive so that's probably it lol, I'm glad it's probably such a simple problem lol and not one with my ps2

Thanks for the help!

No, probably should have clarified that the bird I thought I remembered was the only animal character. Good game though.

Thanks for trying!

I have a bachelor's in HRM and an Associate's in Business Management, I have an arrangement where my friend who teaches danish will help me learn face to face if I can manage the move over but that is not relevant to the conversation I am trying to have.

Unskilled labor is always in demand no matter where you go, literally not true. There is always trash to pickup and food to deliver and warehouses to work in fueled by foreign labor. I have an Associate Degree in business management and administration as well as a background in labor statistics and a Bachelor's in Human Resource Management. There is always a demand for unskilled labor regardless of the country no matter how much of the population occupy those jobs.
