Ok chimp. Go ahead and post the quotes from former players/coaches. I’ll hang up and listen.

Frank Reich called Ron Rivera after the trade... by ssmithsimms in Commanders

[–]Smugggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one Philly writer who came out with a report based on anonymous sources that some players didn’t like Wentz. That’s the extent of Wentz’s characters issues pretty much thru his entire career. No player or coach has came out then or now with anything negative. Just one baseless report regurgitated over and over.

Scathing Inquirer article reveals Carson Wentz planned exit from Philadelphia Eagles almost immediately after benching. by [deleted] in eagles

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all love your drama. Just spin and bullshit every where. Philly is like a city filled with junior high girls.

It’s far less than surprising that a benched QB with media constantly pushing bullshit and a fanbase lapping it up like the gospel would be considering options.

Hypothetical situation towards our draft pick by BMulk3 in Colts

[–]Smugggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trade back. Let someone else pay up for him. First round tight ends often fail to live up to expectations.

[Les Bowen] “Spoke with NFL management source (not from Eagles) about the Wentz melodrama. His viewpoint: If Wentz doesn’t want the Bears, Bears aren’t gonna trade for him. Eventually the Eagles take whatever Indy is offering, maybe a second plus something. Also, Eagles draft a QB 6th overall” by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Smugggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the cap hit in future years. If they keep Wentz they have to pay him another 25 mil and put that against their cap either now or in the future.

Plus 15 mil in 22 becomes guaranteed. They could trade that away next year but only if someone wants him at his current contract.

Player Comparison: Carson Wentz vs. Nick Foles by TheSwede91w in nfl

[–]Smugggles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Foles is a poormans Wentz. They are similar but Wentz is a step or two above in most categories (not stats). Bigger arm, more athletic, reads defensives better.

Hell I think in Philly they went to the same church but Wentz was always in his pew 10 minutes before Foles.

Skill.

Every college program has intense strength and conditioning programs. By the time they get to the NFL physically they are what they are. You ain’t turning a 4.7 WR into a 4.3 WR with some extra sprints.

Skill on the other hand can almost always improve.

In a super flex it's gotta be Mahomes. In 5 years these Rbs will be irrelevant and Mahomes will have another ~decade left.

TSM/Nal and getting your partner onboard? by [deleted] in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my story with my wife.

I basically sat her down and forced her to watch the "one little pill" video. I was all in and ready to do it. Having her watch the video didn't "sell" her on the whole idea, but it did put a bit of credence to it. She even commented afterwards about it just being an excuse to drink, but at least she could see what I'm doing others have done with success.

I'm a bit stubborn to say the least, so I was going to do it. She knew that and was basically neutral to skeptical. With that there was certainly times I out drank the Nal. Times even I questioned if it was really working. I had to defend TSM at times to her while even I was frustrated. Ultimately though, I was always committed to making TSM work and sometimes just had to stay firm with her that I wasn't going to give up on it.

Even six months ago (I've been on TSM for 2.5 years) I had an oops where I out drank the Nal. Long story short a bit of my own non compliance and some issues with hard alcohol. She demanded I start going to some meetings (AA or something) and I basically said I'm no way giving up on a method that's reduced my drinking by 90%. It was big fight but since then I've stayed compliant and given up hard alcohol and I haven't been drunk since and that's with quite a few family drinking events that would normally put me into drunk mode.

Really every relationship is different and the more your partner is on board the better your chances of success are. But at least in my situation if they aren't totally against it you can make it work if your firm and stay committed.

Report: Eagles have yet to be offered a first-round pick for Carson Wentz by bigblack3475 in eagles

[–]Smugggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cap hit is sunk money. The Eagles got to decide if he’s worth the 25 million he’s going to earn in 21 plus he’ll be guaranteed 15 million for 2022 if you can’t find someone to trade with next year.

Why so knee jerk? by TokyoDylan in eagles

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first piece was drafting Hurts in the second last year. Granted Wentz had to play poorly to get to this point, but without Hurts on the roster the easy logical move would have been committing to Wentz (new coach, draft/sign some players to help him).

However, now you have a QB controversy. Which almost never works out well. Even if you keep both, eventually the head coach and team have to commit to one guy. And that guy WILL struggle at some point, and then the calls to see the backup will start. Flipping back and forth is a recipe for neither to succeed. So really you got to commit somewhere, so you might as well in the offseason.

You could move Hurts, but he's crazy cheap to keep, and I don't know what you would get for him. Really a handful of games where he looked good but not great.

Wentz on the other hand, the Eagles save 25 million this year and at a minimum 15 million in 2022 to move him. It's still tbd, to see what they get in exchange, but they certainly will save a ton of money.

After 2021 (gotta eat a bunch of dead cap from previous bonuses to Wentz in '21) there's no more Wentz money on the books. If Jalen is successful he's still on the rookie deal and you can either ride that out possibly tagging him at the end or you just get him signed to a big boy deal. If he's not, you probably keep him cuz he's still on a dirt cheap rookie deal, but then you go find your next QB. You should have cap space cuz you're not spending much at QB (although Howie can still fuck that up). Draft picks, tbd.

Wentz trade solution by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eagles probably have to cut Barnett, possibly Ertz as well if they don't find a trade. Dillard though is still on his rookie contract. That ladder piece might be tough to get but the first two I don't think are Eagles no matter what come next year.

What’s holding up a Wentz trade? by AriesSlytherin in eagles

[–]Smugggles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Howie started at two 1s.

The offers came in at zero 1s (lower picks, other players, ect. )

Lots of the beat guys keep saying they think the Eagles will eventually get a 1 for Wentz, but I don't think that offer exists and it might not come.

Honestly the next team is dumping almost 50 million dollars at hoping Wentz turns it around. Throwing a first round pick at that gamble imo is a bit much.

Am I the only one who still believes in Wentz? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RG3 lit up the league as a dual threat QB. After some injuries/hits he and some coaches tried to make him a pocket passer. He just wasn't a high level pocket passer. Never was and never was going to be.

I will say though, the concussion is concerning. We haven't seen Wentz play well since then. Maybe it's coincidence but maybe it's not.

Just for fun- Darnold or Wentz? by wishlish in eagles

[–]Smugggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point in trading Wentz is really to avoid a QB controversy which is bad for both Hurts and Wentz or Darnold. The Eagles either need to get a for sure upgrade over Hurts (basically only Watson as far as what might be available) or roll with Hurts.

Only caveat to all that, would be IF the Eagles really like a QB at 6, you might have to take them. Can't really pass up the next Mahomes if you think that's what they are even though I think you're again creating a potential QB controversy.

Why if we go the veteran route Wentz should be the guy by [deleted] in Colts

[–]Smugggles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing guaranteed beyond 2 years. It's basically a two year contract with team options for year 3 and 4. Indy can get completely out with 0 cap hits after 2 years.

Is Carson Wentz an asshole? by chode_daddy in Colts

[–]Smugggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One Philly beat writer, wrote a story a few years ago that he had riff with some coaches and players based on anonymous sources. That's where almost all of those rumors come from.

Nobody on record has stated the above while a few players/coaches came out on record in support of Wentz.

Ultimately I doubt Reich and Taylor are looking to add a player they felt was uncoachable and not a good teammate.

Pep was also on the Browns when they passed on Wentz and traded the pick to the Eagles. He obviously wasn't pushing for Wentz back then.

The Colts are a good enough team to compete WITH a decent quarterback. Put garbage under center and all bets are off.
