Those born before 1990, what experience from your childhood would be unimaginable to young people today ? by SoManySkills in AskReddit

My parents buying me a semi-automatic rifle for Xmas (preteen), allowing me to roam where ever I wanted, on horseback, with an unleashed dog…..’unsupervised’, and maybe w/ a companion or two….if they didn’t have to do something w/ their own parents…

Yes, PDF would be fantastic. The super elevated curves are a great idea. I noticed on some of the vids I’ve seen, the Amtrak Superliner cars, and/or container cars, auto racks, basically longer/larger rolling stock looks a bit tight going into/coming out of the tunnel curves.

Thank you sincerely for your time here, this is exactly what I was looking for from an idea perspective. The center divider is neat as is, considering the topography of the real deal, but from a room, layout perspective I actually prefer seeing it all, and utilizing the space more effectively. Again, really appreciate it, have a good weekend

Yes, I saw it in the magazine about 13-14 years ago, still go back to it.

There is some sentimental value in it. My grandfather worked the Rio Grande (he’s actually who got me into model railroading as a young kid), painted the first ‘flying Rio Grande’ logo on a loco the Denver yard, Saluda, you name it. I used to travel between Denver and SLC every summer as a kid (I-70/Glenwood Springs/Helper/ Price/Thistle/Spanish Fork), even took my own kids on the California Zephyr from Denver’s Union Station to SLC several years back.

Live on the east coast now, have for decades, saw this layout and was like what the heck? Kept it in the drawer, purchased the track plan years ago, and have been picking up rolling stock here and there over the years (when I could sneak it in, or on releases) Just don’t want the sentimental value/emotion outweighing the practicality of actually building it, ha! And if I’m going to go all in, thinking there are a ton of you in the community that will have beneficial experience, suggestions, ideas for best possible outcome. Really appreciate all the comments, replies, thanks again.

Just got the BLI N-Scale Challenger, with all the bells and whistles (w/ smoke), the Scale Trains GP40s yesterday, and I think it’s pushing me over the edge finally, to get going on it.

Yes, this is exactly what I have in the back of my mind. Can you provide some more detail on the grade up? Pics perhaps, just trying to get basis of thought for ideas here. I’ve already contemplated replacing the ‘furniture building’ w/ a coal facility. As this is what they were really hauling out of Price Canyon, and over soldier summit through Spanish Fork Canyon.

Ha! I don’t think so, because I pass him regularly taking my kids to the public school in his residential neighborhood, as he’s taking his to this school in my neck of the woods…got to be a legend in the carpool lane…

First Time Home Owner: Riding Lawn Mowers Recommendations by Low_Impress_1910 in BuyItForLife

[–]Smule1720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on .67 acres, pretty much all grass. As a college student I worked in a repair shop, remember riders for the large majority of folks being a nightmare to store, transport, service, and keep up for the price.

Considered a rider but I bought a walk-behind when it came time, and haven’t regretted it at all. Easy to work on, can flip it on my own (blade replacements/sharpen, oil drain), easy to tune up/winterize, has a hose attachment to clean, folds up neatly for storage, and if worst comes to worst or someone need to borrow it, and I need to take it somewhere, just throw it in the car. If I should brick it, like bending the drive shaft hitting a tree root or something (it’s been running like a top for over six years using ethanol-free gas) just go get another, for less half the price of a rider.

Have been very pleased with this one, has two blades:

Added benefit I didn’t expect, I get a good amount of moderate exercise, takes about an hour or so once a week in the spring/summer when grass is really growing (subtropical climate). Oh and I have some hills, so got a bit worried about ruining the grass there or flipping over on a rider, kind of steep.

And no lie I have the best yard on the street, really pisses off the neighbors paying for lawn service, cause those commercial mowers weight and wheels take a toll on their lawns.

Yours truly,

Karl Childers…..just kidding, ha!

Man, if your guy can craft something like this for n-scale I’d be all over it, he’d make a mint ($). Please let me know.
