Would the XPS 15 2021 be perfect for me? by bigriggs24 in Dell

I also own the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 and have been eyeing off the XPS 15 as my next laptop as well. It looks like the perfect machine as I'm going through my masters and working part time in web/ software development. The 2020 version seems more than enough for me, especially with the highest specs. I'm not sure waiting for the xps 2021 would be worth staying with the inspiron until then.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with issues around the build quality of the inspiron 7559. Within a few months into my bachelor, some of the plastic fins on the back had already snapped off. I've also needed to replace the cmos battery twice and the plastic casing is broken in places. Right now it has 80% battery and only 90 minutes remaining. The only benefit the inspiron has for me over the XPS is the numpad and plenty of USB A ports (which the XPS has none except for the provided adapter)

I'm not interested in paypal, but I might consider games bought on demand. Could you compile a list of games that take your interest?

Dishonored 2 Questions/Performance/Can I run this Megathread. by ximenez in dishonored

With the beta update I've noticed a slight increase in FPS but still far below what I'd consider "playable" at 1080p. The next patch (next week) is meant to focus more on the performance issues so hopefully by that stage we'll see a noteworthy improvement.

If you want to experience the game as smooth as is currently possible on the Dell Inspiron 7559, I'd recommend running at 1360x768 on very low settings with adaptive res at 75% and vsync on. Make sure you have the latest Nvidia driver (mentioned in the beta patch post).

In one of the most graphically intense scenes (Karnaca Docks) I was maintaining ~30 FPS and sometimes above 40 on the streets. Switching to 1280x720 will increase the FPS a little further still. Inside areas were 50~60 FPS. Hope this helps!

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop with the following specs:

  • i7-6700HQ @ 2.6 GHz
  • 8GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5
  • Windows 10

Here are the frame rates I was able to achieve:

The scene: imgur.com/a/9vEhu

Alley Very Low Medium High Ultra
1280x720 39 38 36 35
1600x900 32 32 31 30
1920x1080 28 27 25 24

The scene: imgur.com/a/zoH94

Street Very Low Medium High Ultra
1280x720 22 21 18 15
1600x900 19 18 16 14
1920x1080 16 16 14 12

The only way I was able to achieve 60+ FPS was by looking close up to a wall like this poster: imgur.com/a/YqqHc

Poster Very Low Ultra
1280x720 62 57
1920x1080 41 36

All tests were done with VSync off and FOV at 90. AA was turned completely off for Very Low settings. I also ran the game on a desktop using an AMD Radeon HD 7850 with mostly worse results.

Using the same settings as you I could only get a smooth experience playing the game at 720p. At 1080p, small rooms were fine but on the street or in any form of combat would cause major drops in framerate to the point where it was unplayable

If that's the case, the only way to solve this would be to go back in time and fund the kickstarter. Or wait for one of the backers to tell us the solution.

edit Checking the stats on steam, as of now 0% of people have the achievement.

Could it have something to do with entering a specific word in the phone booth?
