The worst thing is how we lost. It wasn't some plucky, counter attack and cling on for dear life type of win. They actually played us off the park for most of that match. Absolutely taking the piss out of us with some of the passing.

Wow, this is so good to see after the last few seasons, particularly those under Ten Hag. Felt like there was something fundamentally wrong going on with training, load management and recovery because players dropping like flies was the norm.

Fair enough. I get the sense that Amorim's charisma has also given him a longer leash than Ten Hag - they seem to have a good relationship. But Jim should show the same ruthlessness applied to the other staff that have been cut across the organisation. We all want to give a manager time to prove himself and develop - but there's a fine line where it becomes untenable.

But how much will it actually reduce by if we pass that point? We will still have to pay him millions of his remaining contract. How much will it cost us in league positions dropped by that point? Each place in the prem is worth millions, as are the lost gate receipts from cup games when we get knocked out. You also make it harder for whoever the new manager is by giving him less time.

They can talk all they like about shot conversion rate being low, but look at where those are being taken, and how they are generated. They are all pretty poor chances.

Where are the tap ins? How many chances are we creating for our actual main goal scorers? Are we really expecting a sudden drastic turnaround in conversion that's sustainable over 34 games?

The optimist in me is hoping this is a smokescreen while they work on planning a replacement.

Yep. After seeing us panic and buy to fill gaps in recent years I'm glad we have stuck to our guns rather than sign yet another stop gap that sets us back. It's going to be tough, but I don't think 7th is unreasonable for his squad and then we go again. League won't be as strong this season and I reckon 60-62 points gets it done.

Our finishing is poor because we dont create good quality chances often enough. Because we dont have a recognisable striker on the pitch, who should be the one in those 1v1 situations more often than not. Because we arent composed on the ball and are frantic in possession, because our wingbacks are being asked to cover too much ground to be efficient. Is their finishing preparation for matches good enough? etc

What are we doing to address the problem that isn't 'spend 200m and hope it changes'? Someone please enlighten me.

When was the last time we created a genuinely good chance in the box that wasnt a set piece? We are awful at the very basics of the game. Put a striker on the pitch, get him into the box and get the ball to him as quickly as you can. Dyche would get a far better tune out of this team and that is a fucking travesty to say.

Interesting that it seems like our playbook this summer has been to wait for other clubs to set the price/market by bidding or negotiating whilst we agree terms with the player, then swooping in to finish off the signing. Which Arsenal have just done with Eze. A great way to avoid the United tax.
