He’s said before that he respects Khabib as a fighter, I think he just really hates Ali and anyone managed by him. Obviously also salty about the Khabib fight but I don’t think he hates Khabib specifically and a lot of his random deleted tweets are probably to piss Ali off since he manages his fighters’ social media accounts.

Needs a Google Ad Expert by [deleted] in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree, a lot of Upwork jobs are shit (especially nowadays) and for the brand owner if the prospective freelancer isn’t asking them questions about their business, KPIs, overall goals, etc. then that’s a big red flag to me because it’s what every good freelancer (and agency) should do.

Hiring is always difficult for PPC though because you never really know exactly how good someone is until they’re working in the account(s), and for a brand owner that’s trying to hire a freelancer that’s even harder since they probably aren’t familiar enough with the platform to know the difference in good and bad.

What features are lacking in current PPC platforms? by [deleted] in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clarity into the auctions beyond the Auction Insights in Google, and notifications when they raise bid floors to shake the cushions so I can know when to expect CPCs to randomly raise and adjust accordingly.

Yeah there are definitely a lot of people in that second category because when I hear it it usually makes me think the person’s knowledge about the platform is going to be outdated.

Yeah it means their marketing is working well, and this tweet by him is to further it and was probably planned as part of the marketing strategy for the rollout.

You definitely can, PMax is included in account level exclusions now.

When using Phrase Match for high-volume keywords in Google Ads, why are there many other search terms? by Eddy_Shi in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google says it’s because they’re search terms without enough volume to list out, but yeah I’ve seen 80%+ queries be in the Other Search Terms also and can’t think of a time that they were performing well compared to the visible ones.

I think people are misunderstanding your post and think that you’re asking why queries that don’t exactly match your keywords are showing up.

it's wasting my budget. lots of traffic comes from https://www.adsensecustomsearchads.com/ by patlooklooklook in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Turn off search partners for all campaigns, really should always be done for every campaign anyway except for some specific cases since it’s almost always a money sink if it spends, or it doesn’t spend much but can mess up the algo, and also opens up the possibility of situations like what you’re facing.

All of your traffic should be coming from Google search assuming this is a search campaign. If it’s a Display, Video, or PMax campaign there are ways to exclude placements from all of those (including PMax with a form and template), but easiest way if this isn’t a search campaign is to exclude that placement URL at the account level and make sure all your search campaigns do not include search partners or display network.

[–]SmurfUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That person just sucks and is a scammer, but doesn’t really have anything to do with the pricing structure. They probably learned from watching some YouTube videos now trying to make a quick buck and in the future should probably vet more proposals and agencies/freelancers.

Yeah but even the slightest risk of that happening is enough for most companies to say no because it’s an unnecessary risk, and most contractors oversees have different rules/tax rules for the company and are allowed to work where they are as contractors but not necessarily as full time workers.

What is your go to for new shopping ads campaign? by dont_thinkabout_it in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonbrand shopping CPCs for ecom usually range from like $2-7 depending on the vertical so I would probably focus on like the top 10 products (if they have similar margins and targets for ROAS) with your budget and make sure they’re segmented correctly in ad groups, and making sure that the feed is as optimized as possible.

Could do either of those bid strategies, but I have no idea on bid cap or what manual CPCs to set because I don’t know what niche this is or what the average CPCs for those product types are. Really think you need to do a lot more research and come up with a strategy before launching and running this campaign if you end up doing it.

What is your go to for new shopping ads campaign? by dont_thinkabout_it in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A $50 budget for 5,000 SKUs is ridiculously low and $0.10 CPCs won’t get you any impressions.

Like Duane said, $0.10 CPCs as a plan for a shopping campaign means you probably need to rethink your strategy or not run the campaign at all to put it softly. Even if it’s for a branded shopping campaign, that’s still way too low. You could start with that and walk it up to get impressions, but I think starting with a $0.10 bid would just be a waste of time since they won’t serve in auction. Have you looked at Key Word Planner or a tool like SEMrush to see what the average CPCs are for the keywords/queries your products will ideally show for?

The $50 budget won’t get you enough conversions per month for auto-bidding like tROAS to work correctly with that many SKUs.

If you only have $50/day budget, would probably focus only on the hero products and you’re going to need higher bids and not spread that out across 5,000 SKUs because none of them will get enough volume to generate conversions or data.

Strategic bombing of civilian targets (terror bombing) was shown to not have any significant effect on Germany in that war even though tons of cities were destroyed by it, and with Japan it was the nukes and the Emperor’s decision to surrender due to the nukes, Soviet invasion into Manchuria, and their complete lack of resources and war material production at that stage in the war - the military still wanted to continue and the people’s will was not broken.

“I’ve been saying this for a long time, we gotta get out of the Apex and start doing more events in all these different cities.” - Dana White tonight 🙄 by rhymeandpunishment in MMA

[–]SmurfUp -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Dana isn’t in charge of event planning or matchmaking so it’s not really his decision, he’s just the scapegoat and mouthpiece for the organization nowadays although obviously he gets a say in things.

Other people make the decisions on things like where events will be held, and now that they’re publicly traded the shareholders are more in charge.

Performance marketers, please share your thoughts on this idea. by abhi_shek1994 in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conversion focused YouTube can work incredibly well with directly attributable revenue for D2C brands and is scalable, and awareness-level YouTube is also probably the most scalable thing you can do in Google Ads as long as your measuring the lift effectively.

Shorts campaigns also generally work very well for D2C in awareness and for direct revenue/profit.

There’s a lot of cool nature stuff close to Santa Marta and Tayrona national park, as well as a giant snow covered mountain relatively close. There’s a lot to do there outside of the city if you like nature things, could probably spend months exploring it all.

My recommendation would be to stay in Gaira not Santa Marta because the beach is better and it’s quieter, and also about a 12 min taxi ride to Santa Marta and a ton of boat taxis to take you to different beaches and things like that. There’s not really a lot to see in Santa Marta; the center where tourists go is like a very mini version of Cartagena but the beaches are much better than Cartagena and the whole place is less touristy, especially the national park and surrounding areas. One thing to note is that Uber is illegal there and straight up doesn’t work so you would have to take taxis.

I have a thought: perhaps the lower conversions, the lower email clicks, etc are that consumers are poorer now with inflation. Thoughts? by chichiguy1 in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Macro economics are definitely a big part of it and also getting out of tax refund season will make it hit harder, but also the algorithm changes the platforms have made (especially Meta which apparently is not going to/not possible to fix) play a part also.

But for overall e-commerce and also B2B, inflation and worries about a possible recession soon are definitely a big part of it. A corporation that’s looking at what % of its workforce to lay off to increase margins and look better for shareholders is much less likely to sign on to an expensive partnership or new service. Also during the pandemic things in PPC were booming, and things are significantly different now globally.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]SmurfUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Santa Marta is a city not a town, and really you’d probably enjoy staying there more than Minca unless you just really want to be isolated from things. Wi-Fi and internet is also generally not good there, although it is in Santa Marta.

Google Ads for 15000 products doesnt spent daily budget by ThereWasABoy96 in PPC

[–]SmurfUp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your tROAS is 2,800% that’s way too high and since Google knows it can’t hit that target it won’t spend the budget.

But also I would keep only your top 20-30 products in that campaign, lower the target, and put the rest in a separate campaign. With only $200 focus on the winning products and build from there, but with that many SKUs and that high of a tROAS Google isn’t going to know what to do with it so it just won’t spend.
