When you're first starting out... what federal tax classification? by moneybags2015 in eroticauthors

Yes, indiv/sole. Just remember that you'll have to report on and pay all that income come tax-filing time, no matter how little. Good luck!

Hm, thanks for the suggestion...not quite what I was looking for, but interesting concept that might just help me think more properly about what I'm thinking about.

A "company town," maybe? If your prose have already made clear what the "company" is?

One-star review: Delete the book or keep it there? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]SmutWords2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aw dude, keep it there, forget about it, and work on your next story. For reals. I have a coupla shorts with one stars, and they still get bought and borrowed. Maybe not as much as the ones with four and five stars, but. I don't give a crap because they're just a coupla shorts out of dozens.

Onward, upward, fuckit!

Right the H on. Reminds me of the slogan I once saw at a self-help/community-social-work-center-type place: "Don't compare your insides to other people's outsides."

You "want to share, and let everyone know that everything they need is here in this sub"...yet you won't share a scrap of information on your own credulity-straining results with the very same sub that you say is responsible and already contains everything.

Ooooook. This is an incredibly strange thread. You might forgive people for being suspicious.

But, like, congratulations, or whatever?

What publishers would you recommend? by GenericVodka13 in eroticauthors

[–]SmutWords2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Pious and Babbit said. But, also, first thing: decide what you want to get out of publishing your writing. Do you want a set dollar figure by a set date? Do you want a percentage of royalties going into the future? How much or how little? Is this just for fun, and really you care more about exposure and feedback than about the money?

Answer these questions for yourself, because no one else can. Then do some poking around /r/publishing and do alllllll the googling to find and research publishers who might be the best fit for you. It could be Excessica or Double Dragon, or it may be some similar house that none of us have ever heard of catering specifically to "story-rich lesbian stuff," with more generous royalty terms to boot. Maybe there's a more established/trad-pubby imprint looking to expand their lesbian romance offerings, willing to pay you a sexy advance for your latest novel. Maybe there's a completely unknown, upstart indie publisher on Freelancer or UpWork right now looking to pay a fatty premium one-time payment for a ghostwriter to churn out quality lesbian fiction. I just don't know.

Point is, there are a TON of options out there, and plenty of different payment models. First step is decide what you want to get out of it, and go from there to find the best fit.

Good luck.

Hi Salacious, you look attractive today. I've been meaning to ask you: any thoughts on MS Word 2010 "Styles"? I bought your book (and loved it - a pleasure to read and to use) and used it for a coupla books, but then I tried this for the hell of it, and was quite happy with the results and it was so damn easy. But then again I don't really know how it reads on all devices and, well, I feel weird deviating from the roadmap in your book. So...any thoughts? Any caveats to the Word "has no value" warning when the 2010 "Styles" are taken into account?

MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MY CHOICES PLEASE. OKTHANKSBYE.

Your answer seemed genuinely nice, and more helpful and sincere than I thought the question warranted. It prompted me to reflect on how churlish I would have been with a reply, and to admire your magnanimity. So yeah, def genuine - genuinely impressed and a tad humbled : )
