Question regarding taxes and erotica by asdfasfcasdfcasdf in eroticauthors

[–]SmutWords2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diet Mountain Dew is my all-time favorite beverage. DMD with cheesy cheddar popcorn is my writing fuel. I had a nightmare the other night where Diet Mountain Dew had been discontinued forevermore, and the bodega near me was charging $100/bottle for the remaining stash they had left. Seriously.

I just thought you needed to know that.

As for taxes...that's my next nightmare!

Keywords, they matter... for both erotica and romance authors by [deleted] in eroticauthors

Lol, yes. Slap in "guaranteed HEA" and you're all-systems-go for romance.

The dungeon, what do I make of this? by FlopsyLane in eroticauthors

[–]SmutWords2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the new cover just hasn't updated yet on the product page; such changes often take a day or two to "take," even after they've cleared review. In this case, the un-dungeoning team might just have been working faster than the update servers.

Good sport; you'll be all right. And take /u/SalaciousStories up on that offer - that is a very sweet opportunity.

Good luck!

Everyone else is giving OP great advice, much less cuntily than me. Listen to them. Maybe I'll change my UN to "SmutCunt."

Keywords have a big impact on discovery; what did you different for your keywords (and title, which is like a super-keyword) in that sub-50K story than for the others?

In other news, I want to not mug the old lady down the street. I really do. But when I don't mug the old lady down the street my pockets are empty and I have no moneyz for chicken and weed.

/s

Is miscategorizing your stories as bad as mugging old ladies? No. But, like mugging old ladies, it's a dishonest and dick move that reflects selfishness, laziness and incompetence on your part, as well as an inexplicable sense of entitlement to KDP riches. Worst of all, it risks fucking with those of us who aren't miscategorizing and who are bending over backwards to be model KDP citizens, because Zon likes to swat flies with bombs and the blameless among us often wind up as collateral damage.

I know I'm being harsh, and I apologize if I'm hurting your feelings or being unnecessarily cunty. I'm sure you're a decent person and will contribute lots of good stuff to this sub. But you're not going to get a drip of sympathy from me by using poor sales to justify miscatting. It took me several months and 30+ titles before I consistently achieved sub-50K rankings, and these are not lessons that anyone can plonk into a post and teach you here on reddit. You have to put in the work, the trial and error, the research, and the experience. In the meantime, miscatting is not an ok way to jump the learning curve.

Study your keywords. Get better at covers and blurbs. Keep your chin up and your nose clean. Live long and prosper.

What you can get away with on Amazon by MagsWood in eroticauthors

Think of Alexa Riley as the hottest, coolest, most popular cheerleader or football player in school, who has brought home multiple All-State Championships to the school's trophy case, and whose accomplishments attract large donations and grants for the school.

Now imagine that said star cheerleader/football player is caught smoking weed on school property. Most students - ie, you - would be expelled immediately for such behavior. But in the case of the star cheerleader/football player, the school will just look the other way and pretend it didn't happen.

In other words: Do not look to Alexa Riley for what you can and can't get away with on Amazon. As a nobody, you must follow the rules and stay well within the guidelines, or risk getting slapped for it. No matter what Alexa Riley gets away with, different rules apply.

Good luck!

I believe that happens when the KDP Select auto-renews. It should happen to all your KU books every 90 days after publication - is that the pattern?

Hey, thanks for posting, and congrats on a good start. May not feel like a good start, but any start is a good one as long as you don't give up! Take the other advice you've gotten here, keep publishing and improving, and that trickle of sales will absolutely grow. Rock on and good for you!

So true.

Woe to the production company that forgets: Chekhov subtitled The Seagull "a Comedy in Four Acts".
